Gameday - Suns VS Dockers

Ross said after the game that Silvagni was competing with McPharlan, Dawson and Johnson for a position in the team.

This indicates that he has been pigeon holed as a backman which surprises me given he has shown promise when he has gone forward in the past.

One thing Silvagni will give you is effort so I am surpised they haven't given him a run up forward given our lack of system up there.

There must be something else going on with him.

Ross is wrong. Silvagni is the most underrated player on our list. If he was in the team we'd have won by at least 50 points from his crumbing work in the forward line.

I saw the score when I woke up and thought we must have been hopeless. I only watched a replay of the second half, and to be honest I don't think we played too badly considering Fyfe, Hill, Morabito were absent and Barlow and Mundy might as well have been missing. Maybe the first half was terrible, but GC played quite well, and I thought we battled hard. A win is going to come soon for GC, I'm just glad it wasn't us.

Yes it's funny how different it is when you watch it in real time. I wasn't expecting an easy win like a lot here. GC's recent form has been good and they pushed other teams all the way. Still during the first half, particularly the second quarter, our effort seemed ordinary and our skill execution was terrible. I'm as guilty as anyone for going off my chops and made some doom and gloom predictions we would be rolled.
Having just watched the second half again I had a similar experience to you. GC were good, very hard at it.

Could anyone hear the Freo chants on TV? My voice is stuffed after last night, even though the way the game was played there was not much to get inspired and cheer about. :(

I thought you might struggle to hear us as we were sitting at the open end part and Metricon doesn't have the same acoustics as Etihad.

I have to admit that although the stadium looks all shiny and new it has a few drawbacks, biggest gripe for me was no big screen at the other end of the ground. In the Cheersquad you have to turn 180 to watch replays and as your so low to the ground at this stadium you can't tell what's happening in the opposite 50.

Depending on how severe the injuries to Swallow and Brennan are, I can see GCS winning 2 of their next 3. It's amazing what having 2 years worth of all the top 10 picks can do. It was a good win in the end against a team that has some fantastic players.

Just a quick note of thanks to those Freo supporters posting on our site, humble about the win and encouraging about our future.

Classy :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Yeah I had a look at the Fremantle posts on your Board, which is full of how the umpires "robbed" you, with Freo posters chiming in with how great the Suns are/will be, and "we didn't deserve the win". I didn't post, and don't agree.

Whining about umpiring decisions is substandard posting in my opinion. One of the things about football is rules are interpreted every moment of every game. You win some, you lose some. Isolating decisions, especially late in the game, is never a fair assessment of umpiring, and you'd be hard pressed to put an argument that umpires have a deliberate favouritism to any team let alone Fremantle. Yeah they get some wrong. We have a decent history with that.

And the sentiment that you guys played well, but we were ordinary is lacking in logic*. What I saw was a young, exciting team, stacked with talent get beaten by another team coming to terms with a new coach, and yet to play well, but capable of winning "ugly". We deserved the win, but I have no doubt we'll get our fair share of losses against the Suns in the future.

What I liked from a Suns perspective apart from the array of talent on display, was that Bluey seemed to be doing pretty well from a coaching point of view.

EDIT; just read Shibz post. If the Suns were "bloody amazing"... and we won... ?

Bennell look great in his breakout game. Next come the taggers, and the pressure of expectation to sustain that.

I don't think we played our best footy. But the Suns were really really good. To be fair, I may have been media washed.

+1.

We earnt that win. Sure we could've played a whole lot better but it's another 4 points.
Both sides were not at full strength as well.

Only saw the last 45mins last night on a shitty stream while out at a friends, but we looked pretty poor. Johnson was terrible, sure he got the ball, but he turned it over almost every time. Mzungu was similar and that missed shot at goal from 30 was just terrible, as was Mundys (all be it on a harder angle, wrong side). I'd say it was Freo who didn't give enough respect to GC not the other way around, they looked like they thought it would be a cake walk and probably played like it.

For me though, Johnson is on thin ice. Getting the ball is fine, butchering it is not. However he seems to be loved by Ross so I doubt he will get the boot, but he is not a back line player and never should be. So incapable of defending against a gust of wind let alone another AFL sized player.

Johnson won't get the boot because he had a decent game and has been having a good year overall. Pretty simple, noticed you had another dig at Mzungu so I'm pretty sure it's you playing favourites.

Mundy was putrid until the last quarter. Of course you're judging this all when you haven't seen the whole game so not sure how much your opinion matters anyway

So.. I'm playing favourites? thats why I said that Mundy had a terrible shot.. right-e-o.

Stop being a ********.

MJ performed well with the ball coming down in the air and has done all season.

You should probably watch games before you comment.

He hasn't when playing one on one. He's only competent when playing as a free man.. we can't keep affording to do that. The best teams have players who can do the Johnson role, but also effectively take out the oppositions players as a defender.. see Hurn, Scarlett, Enright etc.
