Geelong - (2007-2011) Greatest ever winning record of 100 games

Great effort, the whole club and all those involved should be congratulated.:thumbsu:

And as for anyone "bagging" them for only winning 2 flags, name me a team, outside of the Salary Cap enabled Lions who have won more in their clubs era of dominance since the AFL was introduced in 1990?;)

Geelong was a club on it's knees 5-6 years ago, and look at it now, all struggling clubs in the AFL should look at it as a prime example of a club without an absolutely massive supporter base who has just been smart and built their club, both on and off the field from the ground up.

I'd be happy to play Geelong in the Grand Final this year, and it wouldn't hurt as much losing to a club like them as it would have if we had of lost last year to someone like Stkilda.:)

Amazing to be apart of such an amazing team! :thumbsu:

No, it'll be the game we dropped against Port late in 2007. Last game we lost at Kardinia Park if memory serves me correctly.

That is correct!

That's a really, really nice post.

Ummm, missing the finals 5 out of 6 years up to 2004 might have had a bit to do with it, as did a couple of not-so-unimportant father-son picks.
Albeit, Mackie, Lonergan, Bartel, Kelly, SJohnson, Mooney, Corey, Chapman were all gotten with high draft picks over those years. Not picks 1 and 2, but then again neither have the Crows or the Power ever gotten those picks either.

Best team ever, absolutely agree, but they benefitted from the system as much as much as anyone else.

Disagree but they were up there in my top 5.

Anyone saying Geelong has underachieved with two premierships in 4 years is a dill.

That's 2 flags in 4 years in a very competitive competition, probably one of the most challenging, demanding professional sports leagues in the world. They have been like a dominate country side jam packed with mates from the same high school. That's how they've played since 2007.

Can't help but admire them. Anyone that doesn't is a one-eyed moron that can't put aside their own hatred for the team to offer constructive praise on how great they've been.

But I think Collingwood will be better overall. But I'm definitely not writing off the Cats in 2011. Even if they drop off mid/late-season, they'll bring it comes finals time.

I thought it was the Nth Melb game we lost rd5 2007 from then on we went on the streak until the rd21 game against the Power

Right now we're 85-15 from rnd 5 2007 - rnd 4 2011. Rnd 5 being when we lost to North. If we beat Hawks Tuesday it'll be 86-14 from rnd 6 2007 - rnd 5 2011. Rnd 6 being when we beat the Tigers. :)

That Tigers game being when the Geelong side of the past four years awakened.

Did we what!

Remember that game so vividly. Think it was a Saturday night after we'd lost to Hawthorn (or maybe NM) at home... What a game that was.... Big thankyou to the Tiges for the jump start!

check out 9 and 10 on the list

9. Brisbane 75/24/1 rd5 2001 - rd3 2005
10. Port Adelaide 75/25/0 rd22 2000 - GF 2004

almost identical records and only a few rounds apart in time period covered

At first I thought this was a fantastic stat but then realised that it's the best for each team, so not too surprising that each teams most dominant period was close together on the list seeing both are relatively new.

Don't know if it's been pointed out yet but love that the saints one 2 of their first 100 games- IIRC they didn't win for three years

Haha, look at your supported football teams. Barca, Inter, Man U.

You're the actual bandwagon driver.

Man united 1999
Inter 03,

Barca granted im a bandwagoner but hey if i was such a bandwagoner i wouldve dropped off my lot a long time ago nice attempt of a cheap shot but it failed miserably. better luck next time.

geelong the best underachieving team of the late 80-90's and the last 6 years.

Actually Geelong has achieved more in the past six seasons than any other team.

How this is underachieving is beyond me.

Oh hi Al Paton - how are you - nice to know you get your stories here.

Epic Fail below

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...onsecutive-games/story-e6frf9jf-1226041030284

Adelaide holds the unenviable record of the worst result from 100 consecutive games with 44 wins and a draw from Round 4, 1993 to Round 13, 1997 - the year the Crows won the premiership.

Looks like dopey Al has gone to the link provided by the OP and misunderstood how the worst 100 games worked. In fact Mr Paton (aka plagiariser) Adelaide hold the record of having the best 'worst' result over 100 games

IIRC it was one of the first Sunday twilight games at Telstra Dome. Only remember because of Cliton Grybas' call when Nathan kicked one of his goals going on about how it was like Nathan and Gary playing in the back yard
