Article on Stringer in today's Age. Warning: image not for the weak of stomach:

Sounds like he's got the right attitude towards it...and those performances for Bendigo in the VFL are reassuring. The fact one of them was against us probably doesn't hurt his chances either.

He appears to have a great attitude - i think that sometimes we look at the reasons not to take a player in front of the reasons too take him. Stringer will do everything to get himself tight and to forge a successful career. Can't ask for anything more than that. God I hope he drops.

If Stringer is still available at 16 I thinking you'll hear Wells giggling as he calls out his name. Teams like GWS and the Bulldogs have multiple high picks so it seems like a sound strategy to bank one kid who is "safe" and use another pick on a "high risk-high reward" type.

If we somehow managed to snare Stringer at 16 I will do a happy dance.

All I'm hoping is for someone with a body to go with the talent, I'm a bit over these lightwight first pick choices, yes I'm keeping fingers crossed for Mitch and Joel, but the wait is painful.

works both ways though as drafting a big bodied player means he takes a long time to build the tank in order to run out matches in the VFL let alone AFL (Kersten).

At least Kersten was in there kicking goals, and is already one of the hyped up hopefulls, was being seriously considered for senior selection, as you well know! Most definately not Hamling.
But I genuinely hope he's put on some size for 2013. I did hear a story he'd added 6kg from his draft weight.

As I said, if they're good and big it's gotta be an advantage over lightweight med/talls.

Stringer, Garlett, Simpson - if we get one of these 3 - and we certainly will have that opportunity - we have done well. All will add to our list in different ways but fill needs that we will require over the next few years. I would probably lean to Stringer now that there is some possibility he may fall.

It's probably only through my own ignorance but the KP players in this draft don't overly excite me. I'm happy to pass on any of them for our first rounder. Wells may see it very differently though and I bow to his (far) superior judgement.

Putting on my women's intuition cap - do not want Garlett (sounds like a knob) or Simpson (baby at home in WA). Would love to get Stringer, broken bones heal stronger and running pretty is overrated.

What is happening with Kersten? Seems a good talent but wondering who makes way for him if Vardy is being groomed to replace Jpods?

He also has to get past Walker and Brown.
He's got his work cut out for him in 2013, because quite a few borderline players will be gone come this time next year.

Don't think he's in direct competition with those guys. He'd play a similar role to that of Menzel in 2011. Suspect that he'll get a lot of games next year, either as a chop out to Chappy or a way of freeing up SJ for more midfield time.

Well, that would put him in competition with Menzel, which probably doesn't help his cause much.
I don't say he won't get a few games next year but, barring injuries or a speccie start, it won't be "a lot".
I know a lot of young blokes got a few games last year, but those who think the same thing is going to happen next year need to think about the basic numbers.
We've lost one 1sts player, and we've picked up 5 - or 6 if you count Caddy.
Which means 4 or 5 fewer regular spots available.
Even if you drop Corey and/or Stokes, there are still fewer spots available than last season.

So, Hamling is 10kg lighter than the thin Daniher, and only an inch shorter.

Those figures are way out of date.

He is currently 201cm and 91kg.

That video is from March 2011.

I would not mind buying land of you Fred. 7 cms is closer to 3 inches. Hamling is 194 and Daniher is 201 cm according to the above.

Sorry, I read the earlier post that said he was 197cm, but the later one that said he was 91kg - selective retention, I suppose.
Now, about that swampland natural waterfront property......:)

I think that both Kersten and Menzel will be our future forward flankers. I thought one of the big problems with our forward line last year was the lack of marking options besides Hawkins and Pods. Menzel caused absolute havoc late in 2011 as a marking med tall, just as Stevie J did when he was a forward flanker.
Far too often the alternative option seemed to be Stokes who had no hope of taking a mark in a contested situation.

So who are we taking with pick 79? There's been chat on here about Sully getting picked up but I don't see it. I think Wells has a development-type in mind for a later pick, someone like Tipungwuti or Emmanuel Irra.

It appears the jungle drums are beating that Garlett will fall due to his off-field issues. If they are as bad as made out then I hope we avoid him. Shame when you see a kid with so much talent piss it all away. I hope it's not the case with this kid.

I understand Geelong are not interested in Garlett.

Why is Emma Quayle trying to spoil our fun by bigging up the players we are trying to bundle into a hessian sack and cart off down to KP? ;)

Does anyone know if there is a live video stream or draft blog or something for those of us on foreign shores?

If any one will know it will be daz.

Maybe PM him if he doesn't respond.

Taylor Hunt, Christensen, Stringer, Schroder are all 6ft and under was good to get Caddy as he along with Duncan, Horlin-Smith are slightly bigger bodies but gaining another mid the same size or bigger would be preferable I reckon

As the immortal Lennie Lower said, height isn't everything, witness the relative importance of Napoleon and the giraffe.:D
