Ah, I thought I was right picking Motley as your type, Meto! Not sure how much he'll enjoy that tag...

As for bigger bodies - I agree with you. But every so often, a 10-15 year talent pops up at your pick. I wouldn't want to see my club pass that talent up - if Lewis Taylor or Blake Acres does indeed prove to be that talent - for the sake of drafting somebody bigger to fill a 1-2 year gap.

Lewis Taylor is a 10-15 year talent now?!?!

Hahaha.

Not sure why you guys need to pot G over something that neither you guys or he can control.

He very well could be, just like every the player in the draft could be. You're missing the point.

No I think you are missing the point.

You have just said "he very well could be".

He could also very well not be.

Seems strange to attach such labels to a player, and then say "could be".

At his best, he might be a poor man's Nathan Hrovat.

Every player has a chance of becoming a great asset to their club.

My point is - if Taylor is judged to be the best available talent at our pick - if, the decider of which being the experts making the decision, not you or me - then we should take him.

Not pass him up because he's 'too small' or because 'we already have stokes for that'.

And most certainly not because MotleyLemon isn't impressed by him.

Realistically, where do you see Taylor playing for us, and who will he unseat? A time frame on when you think this will happen would also be good.

Periodically in the midfield. Right now. Permanently when Stokes retires.

Lucky for all that Gysenn has us taking Jones at a 90% lock. All the talk will be for nothing. Today has also been pretty graphless, maybe a graph would make Mötley come round on things

Gee, I'm sure he'd be troubled if you didn't buddy up! The Varcoe fan club aren't among my friends as you know, but you can't please everyone.
I'm a little sick of the smalls and skinnies tbh.

I would prefer a catalog so I can gauge just how "Elite+" a 173cm player (with the shortest arms at the combine, mind you) is at tackling.

Genuine question.. have you seen him play much and what does he do well when you have seen him that gets you excited.. i genuinely know 2 parts of F all about most of the kids and want to know what players can add to us

He averaged 31.5 disposals this year at 75% efficiency, and captained Vic Country. One minute you see him break away from a pack with the footy and he drills it onto the chest of a forward 50 target with his right boot. Moments later you'll see him rebound 50 with 40 metre pass to a wingman using his left boot - you literally cannot tell which side of his body he kicks with. His disposal is very 'Sam Mitchell-esque'.

He'll find the footy in defence, and backs himself to run across the face of goal - arcing around small forwards - before coming out the other side with plenty of time and space to hit a free target and set up an attack. He has a brilliant side step - many observers dismiss him as doing unnecessary amounts of running / zig-zagging, etc. - but when he straightens up, almost every time he's created an absolute paddock for himself. When he does get carolled by 2-3 players and can't find a way out, he doesn't try anything unrealistic to get out of the situation, and turn the ball over - he passes the ball off by hand, and then puts his head down and bolts to a better position. Sometimes the opponents take the bait and let him go free - sometimes one of them follows him into space - but every time you can count on him having a minimum of three metres on his opponent when he receives the return 1-2 pass.

But what have YOU seen from him.... not what draft guides tell you

I ask because take Eardley for example.. i saw things that put me off him seeing him live... Sometimes what you see yourself is different to what you read

From skin and bone 195cm kids to 173cm short people, how many different ways can this club stuff up there first round draft pick??
Surely we can't be serious? :D

Well be glad when the draft is all done.

The coverage is great but it drives me mental how it makes experts out of everyone... especially people who have never seen the kids play and ate basing their opinion on articles or 3 min highlight clips.. Twitter is driving me mad with everyone's 'expert' thoughts

Couldn't agree more. I think the vast majority of supporters (including myself) should stick to the 'needs' and the 'type of player' they want with the respective picks. I want an inside midfielder who will be ready to play 6+ AFL games next year with the first pick. I want a genuine 203cm+ ruckman with athleticism who can cover the ground well with the second pick. I want the best player left with our third pick. Not really too fussed on what their names are. I'll do more research after they get picked.

And I'd love to pick up a player like Cavarra in the rookie draft, a midfielder who has pretty much done everything at the U18 level and is a leader. I'd back a player with his CV in to be a solid contributor in the AFL (or to at least crack it for a senior game, which isn't bad for a rookie pick).
