So am I right in saying the general consensus is that we would prefer to draft the next Tom Swift over the next Sam Mitchell??? ;)

I just hope that the club's preference is to draft the best guy at playing football...

I'm with Motley all the way, not with you sunshine,...we need to to start picking some big bodies this draft not short people.
The man-child types have got plenty of upside, Voss and Matthews were hardly ever skinny little whimps and they did ok!
Dunstan and Robertson :thumbsu:

Yep , time to rebuild along the Ling/Rooke/Corey model. Selwood needs help else we run the risk of burning him out.
Dunstan and Robertson are good to go , Acres and Templeton will need a little longer but well worth it IMHO.
Not sure about Jones , his highlight reel wasn't that inspiring and he did miss a lot of targets by foot so I understand the knock on his kicking.
Forget Taylor and Hartung - we're not playing little league and we already have Bundy and Stokes , that's enough sub 180cm ;)

AFL site says 6pm but yeah prob 7pm after all the bullsh!te.
Might be very wrong but as it is on the Gold Coast they might be kicking off at 6pm QLD time but for us on daylight savings it'll be 7pm.

And then you can factor in the b.s. ;)

Well be glad when the draft is all done.

The coverage is great but it drives me mental how it makes experts out of everyone... especially people who have never seen the kids play and ate basing their opinion on articles or 3 min highlight clips.. Twitter is driving me mad with everyone's 'expert' thoughts

Whoever we get I'm sure will be the best for for us that is available when it's our pick... and that doesn't guarantee success but I believe our club gives them the best chance to turn into a very good player

What amazes me ... Not so much on here' but on some forums ive seen, Is how some people turn violent on people expressing an opinion about a player that neither Person has actually seen!

We have no visibility of player's character really either, so when Wells puts that at number 1 criterion, I don't know how we can expect to get close really.

(For the record on what little I know about these guys I have a preference order (out of realistic chances) of Dunstan, Acres, Gardiner and then Lewis)

For the most part this is very true, however in some cases I disagree.

I really enjoy the 'meet the draftees' videos, where you actually get to hear them speak. It doesn't necessarily give you a great understanding of their character as a person, but it is very interesting to observe.

For example - everything about Jones says he's an absolute raging bull on the field, and a bit of an Andrew Mackie type sledger. Watching him speak, he seems relatively quiet. Strange contrast.

The big/extreme example for me is Dayle Garlett - people say we can't judge him as a person, but I disagree. Search up his public Instagram profile and you'll find hundreds of photos of him doing exactly what you don't want an AFL player to do.

So do you propose that we draft him based on his sledging skills?

Yep. You can certainly pick "dipstick" in those interviews but an intelligent kid can hide character in a simple three minute session.

Garlett? I'd rather we hired in Anthony Mundine and Blake Ferguson (failed moron rugby league players and boxers) at least we could line one of them up on Ballantyne ;)

I would take Garlett in the rookie draft, and invite Moons and Scarlo to dish some Justin Murphy style hurt on to him if he steps out of line...

I read an article about Wells last night - on top of the 100's of dratees they interview throughout the year, for every one of them they interview their family, coaches, teammates etc. to find out as much about the person as they do they player.

Must be a colossal process throughout the year.

He was alleging it's a strong point of his game, giving lip, not much good though if they're drilling it through the middle more than you.

Kindly bold where I alleged it was a strong point of his game:

Waiting for you to point out where I said it was a strong point of his game.

I commented on the fact that he does it - and that he seems very quiet off field. At no point did I say that it's a strong point of his game, or that we should draft him because of it.

You omitted what preceded that quite coincidently.

You are unbelievable Meto.
BTW, forgotten the login to the alias?

If we really want to test our development / mentoring skills then get him on the list - however if we want those resources available to the team and not skewed towards his somewhat questionable tendencies then that's a big f*** off IMHO
Cannot see him doing well away from home , anyway if Wells has done the interviews with him and his family then he won't be on our radar at all.
