If these 2 sides merged who from our team would make the team.
From what i can see Geelong may have 5 vacant positions.
Judd
Kruz
Murphy
Gibbs
Stevens
Fev
Waite
Players to miss Hawkins/Varcoe/Blake/Stokes/Taylor/Rooke/Wocinski
the rest would have no hope
You could apply Hawtorn an St kilda to this as well

It shows how far away we really are.

Interesting of the players you mentioned.

None of those were recruited by Wayne Hughes outside of the pick 1s.

It is interesting.

In fact I will sit here with my hot cup of tea and ponder as to why none of our young second, third, and forth round picks of recent years are good enough to make it into the team that has won the minor premiership for the past 2 years.

Hmm...

How is that interesting? Judd was a top 3 pick. Waite was a father son. Fev was an awesome pickup, Stevens doesn't deserve to be on that list.

I actually hope your post was a joke, because this obsession with Hughes is out of control.

And how of Geelong's 2nd/3rd/4th draft picks taken in the same period would get a game in a merged Carlton/Cats side?

I'd hazard a guess that it'd be zero, with perhaps Harry Taylor being the only exception.

Ignoring the fact Geelong have an awesome list so it's harder for those picks to get senior football, I'd hazard a guess that Matthew Stokes wouldn't do too badly in a carlton jumper.

I also think that if fit, Matthew Egan would be a bit handy down back.

Brent Prismall would certainly not be the worst player in our midfield (if fit)

I reckon Varcoe would go ok, same with Djerkurra.

NEed I go on?

This thread isn't about them making it at Carlton, it is about them making it in a combined Carlton/Cats side. There is plenty of 2nd+ rounders taken by Hughes who are playing for us, so your point is moot. I'd take Bower over the lot of them, barring Egan. Same with Grigg.

No.

Prismall is now a Bomber.

Muppet.

God help the US economy if you're their new President.

The username George_W_Bush is still too flattering for a man of your football knowledge.

Maybe you could go with something closer to home.

Billy_McMahon. :thumbsu:

I think it raises a valid point, if geelong are the leagues bench mark how many navy blues would be kept?
Bower, Waite, Scotland, Stevens, Murphy, Kreuzer, Betts, Fev, Gibbs, Judd?
Yarran, Walker on potential.
I struggle to make a case for anyone else...

these sort of pointless comments suck

These comments suggesting comments that refer to comments that suck actually suck themselves, whilst not sucking in their own right certainly lean towards suck potential. Pretty sure...

Definites:

Judd, Kruezer, Murphy, Fev, Gibbs, Waite.

Maybes:

Bower, Betts.

Based on potential / depth:

Yarran, Warnock, Jamison, Hampson, Robinson, Grigg.

If both clubs were 100% fit and they merged this week, next weeks team would look like this:

B: Mackie Scarlett Milburn (in for D. Johnson)
HB: Corey Waite (in for H.Taylor) Harley
C: Bartel Judd (in for Wojinksi) Enright
HF: Kelly Fevola (in for Rooke) G. Ablett
F: Chapman Hawkins S. Johnson

Foll: Ottens (in for Blake) Ling Selwood
Int: Kruezer (in for Mumford), Stokes, Gibbs (in for Varcoe), Murphy (in for Gamble)

Its amazing how good some players are rated when they play in a great side and how some are terrible when they are in a bad side.

In my opinion, some players who play in a good side arent as good as they appear and vice versa for players in bad sides.

And then looking at Geelongs side the ones you have named have basically all played over 100 games. That proves the point that good premiership sides need a majority of players with more than 80 games experience.

Ill stick with my Carlton players and wait 2-3 years when we have majority of players with over 80 games experience and coming into their prime. Apart from the obvious ones like Murphy, Gibbs and Kruezer, blokes like Bower, Grigg, Jamison, Thornton, Austin, the list goes on.

I think we will still come 7-8 and may win one final, which is all i expected of them this year.

Is it just me or are the people complaining the ones who probably put money on us to make the top 4, which was never going to happen.
