AFL once again show they are the wet lettuce leaf of sport when it comes to handing out penalties. AFL is only tough on PR, nothing else matters.

Tommy with the latest:
He'll have some reasoning for it.Can’t wait to hear Gerard’s thoughts on the issue
Yet the AFL call it a "massive whack"5k per year.
Players get fined that for scratching their balls.
No, that was 'different' because it was only for 1 year not 8 so much worseWould that be like how Adelaide didn’t breach the TPP with Tippett’s fees?
A more meaningful and appropriate penalty would be to strip them of the 2011 flag, and the premiership awarded to whoever finished runner up that year.
Yet the AFL call it a "massive whack"
Wonder if they exceeded by more than $5k per year
Blinded by the west coast oneYou missed the Essendon saga ?

GST is not particularly complex. Surely they have an internal audit process, as well as arm's length external auditors. 8 years undetected sounds remarkable. Bit of a whiff here"Administrative error." This seems like a massive cover up. Just my opinion but I'm sticking to it.

You would hope he would have excused himself from the investigation and final decision making but I doubt it.Not sure if it's been pointed out on here, but who was Footy GM at Geelong when all this took place? Who is Footy GM at the AFL now?
I suppose the difference here is that Demetriou / the AFL knew what was coming with Essendon. AFL would not have known about the Geelong situation if GFC hadn't reported itDidn't Demetriou tell Essendon to self report before shit hit the fan with ASADA? Given we are talking about AFL house here, cant help but notice this coincidence

LOL, "before it blows up like the Essendon saga"That's according to the version of events we are currently being presented with. I wouldn't rule out the AFL knowing about Geelong's breach and possibly a whistle blower forcing the AFL/Geelong to self report before it blows up like the Essendon saga.
Well, if its such a deeply embedded pesky admin error that has avoided three tiers of audit (self, independent, AFL), then there needs to be an AFL -wide audit of all the clubs , who could unknowingly fall into the same trap. So I assume AFL house will be in touch with the other 17 clubs for a review. If not, why not?AFL would've received the paperwork for 8 years as well, and even they didn't pick it up until Geelong brought it to their attention. Is that Geelong's fault as well?
