Roast Geelong getting home finals…but only against small drawing teams

There's no confusion. We both agree it's very clear that Geelong supporters want to avoid the subject of the Grand Final because it doesn't suit their narrative.

No they're not. But a true statement is that Geelong gets to play Grand Finals in their home state, which is something 8 (soon 9) other clubs never get to do.
Might be a nice idea not to generalise.

I'm happy for Geelong to play all home finals at the G. It's never going to be possible to change that against a Melbourne based club so why bother disadvantaging the interstate clubs (relative to the MCG tenants, who get the easiest deal and always will) with half arsed changes.

Every premiership Geelong, a Marvel tenant or an interstate side wins with "home" final(s) hosting an MCG tenant at their home ground should rightly be praised very highly. Brisbane, Geelong and West Coast have done it this century.

Yes the exact wording of AFL regulations are no match for the potent weapon of a strategically placed emoji.

Is the grand final considered to have a home team and an away team or not.
Not by clause B subsection 2.a.

Does anyone in the world believe that the grand final considers that it generally has a home and an away team as such?

Yes I get the idea that it is ‘unfair’ that it’s always in Victoria. I don’t have a problem with that.

But the event has been locked in for the next 35 years after it was effectively bid on by the Victorian government. It is not a case of being forced to shift it there ‘look we know you’ve finished first and qualified for the GF but we think you’ll pull a bigger crowd in Melbourne.’

Every team begins the season knowing that that match is played at that ground no matter what. The finals prior are not known. Dancing around it like a fencer doesn’t change any of that nor does it change the premise of the argument.

I don't get why this is even a point. Interstate clubs get a raw deal in the Grand Final. Geelong also get a raw deal in any final that they have the right to host.

These are not mutually exclusive, right? Am I being crazy?

You guys have complained about playing at the MCG before for finals for a home game despite if it was played at GMHBA against big club it would be locking a ton of supporters out.

I'd be fine with being locked out of a home final if the venue I was being locked out of gave my team a 10% better chance of winning. I don't think any true supporter would put their personal experience ahead of what's best for their team/club.

Agree with most in this thread. The sensible options are:

1. All Geelong home finals through to the first/second/third week of finals (pick one) are played in Geelong, regardless of opponent; or

2. No Geelong home finals are played in Geelong, barring exceptional circumstances like we had in 2013: four Vic home finals in week 1 with Geelong's home final expected to be the lowest drawing of the four.

As i stated above the only clubs who don't get screwed by the current system is MCG tenants

Geelong and Marvel tenants get screwed for all finals and Interstate get Screwed for the GF

Yes. Here's another source:

Enough dumb questions now, thank you.

ok Your Honour it will be interesting to hear the huge (read: nonexistent because it will be neutral) debate if two interstate sides play the grand final this year based on who will be ‘hosting’ from the MCG in this match where they go in blind because no one knows much about the grand final venue in advance aside from the fact that it will be held there until 2059

The only way Geelong ever get to play home finals again , is when they play 11 home games against ALL teams evenly. Carlton, Collingwood etc etc until the AFL do this, Geelong shouldn't get home finals. I personally think that sux the AFL only care about money. I know its not a Geelong problem as they would love 11 home games. As a long suffering Roos supporter the AFL is a rigged, corrupt organisation only $$$$$$$ counts.

No evidence? stand rule good enough for you?

Blicavs rule not good enough for you? Doesn’t seem to matter when they change rules that impact other teams. If he was so pro Geelong why did they implement a rule to thwart the side who benefits most to the point that it was literally nicknamed after a Geelong player?

Grow a spine and see if you can break the mould of excuse making that seems built into half your supporter base

What's wrong with it? That and 6-6-6 are good rules.

Certainly not evident of "CFL". Which for those playing at home is the Tigers board description for our league as the Corrupt Football League. How is that a corrupt rule? They impact all 18 clubs.

Now; the 3rd man up rule was brought in citing medical advice yet none was presented, and acted to solely stop 1 player in the competition. All because he had an advantage over others athletically.

Should we make Sean Darcy ruck on his knees against shorter ruckmen to make it fairer for them?

Why though?

No, the 6-6-6 rule is good.

The stand rule is not. you'll never convince me otherwise.

Do you read? Why should they when they don't play EVERY team down there, not Geelong's doing its AFL doing. Collingwood vs Geelong at MCG = 50/50 game. Geelong vs Collingwood at GMHBA = 70/30 Geelong favour. Until its equal on ALL teams they won't get home finals. You ask why? Ask the AFL

Of course he won’t. You blame it for Richmond no longer being the dominant team in the competition
I don't like the stand rule, and a lot of other people don't either.
fair enough if you like that's up to you.

6-6-6 rule is universally liked because it hasn't changed the fabric of the game & has had little impact.

Absolute ******* joke.

Not Geelong getting home finals of course - that should be a given.
The way we play against your mob at K.P, you'd probably want the venue as your new home ground anyway! Honestly walking out of the ground in 2013 as a losing home ground finalist, it was as silent as a funeral procession.

No, the 6-6-6 rule is good.

You interjected on a comment calling out someone claiming the comp was corrupt. Listing that rule.
Not liking the rule =/= corruption.

Because they want to?

I long for the days where Victorian teams had actual home grounds. Geelong want Kardinia Park to be their home ground in 11 games + finals, let's get them some of the way there. I don't really care for fairness; the AFL is a bullshit league of eccentricities anyway.

Geelong playing in Geelong is cool.

You may not care for fairness, most AFL clubs and supporters care about it. Until it's "fair" Geelong won't get finals. As i said Ask the AFL - $$$$$ talks as a Roos supporter you should well aware of that. We seem to agree that Geelong deserve it, but it just want happen.

When did your so called Blicavs rule come in? And when did Hocking start as AFL Football Ops Manager?

Never once used the word corruption but okay put words into my mouth...
I didn't need to. You interjected on a comment around corruption and mentioned our CEO.
I asked for evidence. You cited the rule.
No evidence? stand rule good enough for you?

I am now stating its not a corrupt rule.
You need not explicitly state the words if that's the intention of the comment you're conversing with.

If you agree its not a corrupt rule, and that the 6-6-6 is a good rule then feel free to run and tell the richmond faithful to drop the CFL shenanigans.

1. You won't have the stones to do that.
2. It wouldn't be received too well among the tin foil hat wearing Tigers faithful.
