Geelong rorting the system

The equivalent of movie/tv stars demanding "Executive Producer" as their title while doing nothing.

Tiger Woods was paid appearence money just to turn up and play. Never mind the finishing position money.

Extreme example.

How much are "influencers" paid to represent and support a brand? Some get millions.

All Scott needs to do is be directly involved in some legit marketing or training digital material used online. Whats that worth?

Main takeaway - Geelong still made more money off 77k at the G. What happened 15 years ago doesn’t mean it applies today.
77k x 9 = 693k
35k x 26 = 910k
So um, no, they make less at the G it needs to basically sell out the whole stadium to be comparable

you're also right in that the situation has likely changed. The increase in capacity will have seen better coverage of overheads and we'd be making more in both headcount and per person revenue.

Chris Slingscott to Morris Execs, who are renowned for getting themselves in trouble rushing through dodgy loans:

"Happy to do them slowly boys...."

& to same group eagerly observing a loan consultant trying to sign up a loan from a cold call to hit the monthly target:

"He converts this we win."

Yes siree, he is going to be one hell of a Chief Leadership & Performance Enhancing Chief person.

The football club did, the State Government did, the AFL did, the Federal Government did, and the Geelong council did.
No different to every other stadium

If Carlton had of stayed at Princess Park, and lobbied the same entities, they might also have such a ground for themselves, rather than moving you home ground to Marvel and MCG.

The difference is that the AFL put a gun to Carlton's head and forced us to move.
We didn't have a choice - would happily still be playing at PP otherwise.

The Docklands deals have been awful for Carlton, financially and on field. That was the point, of course.

Missing point as well is now they get 35-40k into the ground not 26k, so make more than the 77k at G

Geelong will be an appealing destination as long as regional living remains affordable.

Sydney recieved cost of living allowance (COLA) for years to help compensate for high Sydney property prices.

I think it's time the AFL implement do the exact opposite for Geelong and slash their salary cap.
A Carlton supporter giving advice on salary caps.
Now I’ve heard it all.

Yes, it’s changed so your sums are worthless in 2024. When the government spends 340m on upgrading a stadium, contracts and cost will change. You need to slowly pay for the 340m, they need 10k from every one of those seats over time to do that or an agreed proportion. It’s not free.

The G could be different too since it’s been 15 years. Deals and revenues flex.

If Geelong get a free stadium and pay for nothing, maybe the rorting goes into the state government too who are spending tax payers money with no return.

It's a state government asset. How much money do you think is actually going to be returned to the taxpayer here?

There was a period where 3 out of 4 premiers were Geelong supporters. That coupled with marginal seats getting alot of extra funding to entice voters

Plus Collingwood are the only team that consistently has 70k show up. The Tigers squeal about coming down to KP but the last two games at the G against them drew 58,000 and 59,000. Take out the MCC and AFL members from those figures, who are non payers from Geelong's perspective, and it would barely be above the KP capacity now.

No idea but in WA, the Optus deal wasn’t as lucrative as the Subi deal as the stadium operator was paying a proportion back to the state government for the 1.5B stadium they built. The ticket prices went up though and there were more seats so in the end the clubs do better out of it.

I assume the same would happen in Geelong. It’s not as simple as going off a 15 year old quote and adding on 15k seats worth of extra revenue like some punters believe.

The whole point is Geelong can pick and choose what suits them best, you have enough money that playing more at the G is better to experience the ground compared to 2 games a year most interstate teams get if they are lucky.

It does depend apparently. And it seems it's all ok to get caught and still get a game for Geelong.

Didn't the TAC cut ties with Geelong in 2017 after a spate of traffic offences by their players over time, including drink driving?

Stevie Johnson; Joel Selwood; Dawson Simpson; Billie Smedts & Brad Hartman all say hold my beer.
It’s also ok apparently for a leader of your club to fire racist remarks at an indigenous player and be welcomed back with open arms….
🤦‍♂️
