Geelong rorting the system

You just know this is going to be the outcome. Don't know why they bother

My guess is that following this announcement multiple clubs have reached out to the AFL to say they have sponsors who are willing to offer the same arrangements - effectively just a bogus role to rort. Has probably spooked the AFL a bit.

Now now... We don't know for sure.

They did come down on the Blues that one time to force them to move to Marvel after all.

Would be glorious if Scott's fat self indulging scone was the straw that broke the camels back and forced the AFL to finally step in.

But unfortunately we all know they'll just politely ask Steve Hocking to stop making it so obvious and it will be business as usual handing out farms, tractors and pubs for the cost of a pack of sultanas down at the Cattery.

Don’t forget about the cotton on sponsorships 😉 must be nice

Yeah, sounds like having written the rules they now regret writing them because clubs are unhappy and/or clubs are busy exploring the rabbit hole.

Yeah I tend to agree it’s lining up for them to backtrack and close that rule which will results in some angst with the coaches

AFL is nothing but consistent in their incompetence

Surely the AFL has rules against bogus rorting from clubs to staff/players? The AFL executive is fine though, jobs for the boys 24/7.

You assume that Geelong has done everything correct, I recon they have broken rules after years of getting away with anything they do. Big punishment incoming...

The AFL simply shouldn't allow players/coaches (and probably immediate family members) to take on roles with official club sponsors without including them in the cap. Nothing to stop Scott going and finding another non-sponsor business for his side hustle C-suite gig that he obviously needs to pay those rising electricity bills. Likewise for players.

Anything else is always going to have a stench about it.

Lol, no. They got it ticked off as being within the rules and it's being reviewed again after the fact. At absolute worst there's a rule change where they change something for future agreements.

Now apparently they were caught off guard

Lol did Geelong present the AFL with a 50 page document to approve something completely innocent and drop in on page 47 as a footnote that Scotty would also be getting a rort gig at a sponsor?

Or did they think this wouldn't be announced publicly. Maybe they didn't expect a statement which said 'we have transcended the traditional sponsorship arrangement' wink wink.

Hocking probably told them it was all good so they ticked it off without looking at it. Then Geelong are so public about it, all the other clubs start asking about it so the AFL have to now appear to be properly checking it over

Ignore Walsh, this poster came on to our board to try discuss things normally.
When other posters called Walsh out, Walsh just admitted he likes to troll Pies and Cats fans and not to take him seriously. 🤦‍♂️

He is a troll by his own admission. Do not engage.
Also Sam Walsh has Geelong connections so they are worried we will get him. Carlton can’t keep paying all their players a million each.

God the AFL is pathetic.

Timeline of events:

1- Morris offer CScott the position

2- Geelong speak to AFL

3- AFL say no worries

4- Announcement is made

5- Fans and potentially other clubs raise concerns

6- AFL pretend they were unaware of details and announce investigation.

Stay tuned for 7- conduct investigation that goes for long enough that most people forget

And finally 8- announce no sanctions on a Friday night before a major event

Don’t rule out an AFL backflip and the position included in the cap / Scott drops it.

Bad Optics is worse than cheating as far as the AFL are concerned.
