I'm always wary when a player who has battled calf issues for two years is a sudden withdrawal after the warm up with calf tightness.

I'm hoping there isn't more to this but if he misses again I'll start to worry.

I was worried when he had a month off to get it right and came back immediately sore again. It’s unlikely he will ever be past this issue now.

Esava also listed as emergency is interesting. Wonder if there’s any chance he’s a late in. Scott has said for weeks he wants to have a look at him before finals, perhaps one of the talls also gets a rest

He’s the only tall who played last weekend - Neale was out due to concussion, while Ceglar was concussed last week; so really our only tall emergency option

Makes me wonder if we revert back to the slow movement football that we once played post 2011 and pre-I Smith arrival. We lacked a really good outside midfielder through that whole period. So will be interesting how we go without him.

I think Smith needs a rest though. He can get a game again next week, and then I presume we still have the pre-finals bye?

took many marks and looked very good according to a mate who watched- an ex Cats player(reserves premiership player Chatfield fwiw)
