When in form he's as good as any. He just doesn't do it enough to sit with the elite.
I like him enough as a forward... the AFL equivalent of a soccer striker that stays close to goal and focuses on finishing.

In an untidy but opportunity rich group like the Tiges forward line he really shines because it suits the skills and advantages he does have. But gee I don't think I could name a game where he was the spark that got a team going... more some useful kindling.

No shame in not being as consistent as Ablett, Selwood or Dangerfield.

Duncan is extremely underrated and insanely consistent but he's not as good as Cotchin at his best IMO.

I dislike a lot of the Richmond fans on Bigfooty and I will debate with them all day about KB, Francis Bourke etc being better and/or more successful than Gary Ablett senior and Gary Ablett junior.

(Hilarious)

But I try to be objective.

Cotchin is extremely underrated IMO.

Brownlow medalist and Premiership captain goes alright in my book.
that is hilarious.

I was only commenting on what would happen if the MC had a full list, and I don't think it's even debatable that they would pick the players I mentioned...
Well it is debatable since that is what we have been doing.
...The simple fact is that those 7 players are missing from the side that we would field if at full strength.
I think that remains debatable.
As to who I would drop to include anybody, the answer is nobody, unless and until they
- appoint me as another member of the secret, unidentified MC,
...
But you claim you know what the MC thinks as to who is an automatic selection, yet it appears that in fact it is simply your opinion of what they think, however you don't know who they would drop! Is that correct?

Cotchin or Caddy?

Cotchin is a very good player - and youd love to have him at Geel - however in my opinion he is not in the same street as KB and Francis Bourke

In the 1980 finals series - KB well into his 30s - and playing as a permanent half forward flank - kicked 6 goals against Carlton in the 1st semi - 8 goals against Geel in the 2nd semi - and 7 goals against Collingwood in the GF

Bourke - or Saint Francis as they use to call him - started off on the wing - part of that famed centre line of Bourke Barrot and Clay - and ended up a key defender - i can remember watching him one day - playing full back - opposed to Larry Donohue

Not bagging Cotchin - he is good - but even Geoff Raines id rate higher - far better kick

If it comes to that, Clay and Barrot were both better than Cotchin, as well.

To those saying we should have taken Thurlow because of his strong body. He is not a physical player and has never played as one.

He averages 4.14 contested possessions a game compared to Zach Guthrie's 3.6 and 1.98 tackles to Zach's 1.73. Negligible difference really.

They obviously want Zach to do a shutdown job and have more faith in him to do that that the more attacking-minded Thurlow.

Bit once again I laugh how the selection of the 22nd player in the team will ultimately determine the outcome of the game. If this is our biggest concern, we're doing ok.
Its not about determining the outcome of the game, although even the slightest difference can. It is about what is just.

so with smith parson and jones not playing yesterday does that mean changes? or do we have a small medium and large emergency
McCarthy is in some doubt and we generally carry one over from the VFL anyway. I expect a change based on both Jones and Parsons being held over. Let's hope it's Jones and not Parsons being the late inclusion, we can't afford another soft, front running passenger for this game.

Big game today. Win and we leap frog Richmond, and start to establish a winning streak (hoping for no post-bye relapse) while they host Sydney, but at Etihad. It's a real chance to contribute to a 3 game slump for them that could eat away at their top 2 chances. I think that's important for every potential contender.

Lose on the other hand, Richmond retain their dominant aura at the G, go a game and percentage clear of us and have more confidence to take on Sydney. Meanwhile for the Cats it would continue to stop-start nature of our season, and make it 2-3 at the G rather than 3-2.

Personally I add about 25% more weight to games we play at the home of football - coupled with the opponent, this will tell us more than any other game so far in season 2018.

Is there actually any doubt over McCarthy or is that just from big footy rumors?
I actually believe it’s strickly for the weather.
Wouldn’t be surprised if they both come in for Buzza and Henry.
Something like that anyway

I'd say so since he missed last week with an injury. And I can't see Henry being a late out even if it's teeming with rain.

You'd need their size and weight in the heavy contests, bodyweight counts in a slog.
Can't go to small and lightweight, it counts against in the end.
Richmond won't go small.

That "soft, front running passenger" gets significantly more of the ball and is involved in more scores than the guy you suggest. Unless we specifically want a guy for defensive pressure I'd take Parsons. Right now he's just a better more composed player.
