Whilst Selwood, Hawkins and Duncan are huge outs i still reckon your ins with Danger, Menzel and Motlop are pretty solid and will cause us some headaches. Not sure about the "tigers should win easily" narrative surrounding the game (to be fair its neutrals saying it). You guys should still be favs imo, especially it being at SS.

Im interested in if youll make more than just the 3 forced changes, teams who make more than 3 or 4 changes usually struggle, although these are different circumstances obviously.

Taylor forward is the way to go for you guys imo, i still think Astbury will play on him but it does make sense because you dont want to go too tall in defence due to our lack of size in attack. If Jack plays you have more than enough height to cover him, we will more than likely drop Ivan Soldo and play with just the one ruck.

We arent a high scoring team so your firepower wont be too much of an issue i dont reckon. Menzel, Danger, Motlop, Taylor, Menegola will all more than likely contribute on the scoreboard. Our accuracy is abysmal, so if you kick straight youll probably win.

Just my 2 cents.

This is Geelong we are talking about... On our home deck... I thought Sydney game was a one off? Since when did our team become pussy pushovers? What happened to the Skilled Fortress? We should beat the Tigers - no excuses. Don't care about Selwood, Duncan or Hawkins missing - we recruited all the other spuds to cover them. Stanley, Black etc
No its not geelong. Its a geelong defence without any forwards.

We’ve all had endless cracks at the meat tray but I reckon one thing for sure. There is no way they bring House and/or Jones in without dropping Zuthrie, Simpson and/or Parsons.
**** the future and “getting games into kids”. That’s what you do when you’re either out of finals contention or you’re 2 games clear in the Top 4, which we aren’t.
The time has come this week to put in a team of mature AFL ready bodies to manhandle the Tigers.
A team that has Parfitt, Parsons, Zuthrie and Simpson in it was a recipe for disaster against a hard team like Sydney last week without Danger.
To then add House and Jones would be farcical.
Simpson and Zuthrie HAVE to play VFL this week.
I would go:
In: Menzel, Motlop, Stanley, Ruggles, Black
Out: Selwood, Duncan, Hawkins, Zuthrie, Simpson

PS If they bring in House and not Stanley, I’d suggest Stanley won’t be at GFC next year. If he can’t make this weeks Best 22, his cards are marked!

Can't find room for Paddy? ;)

Lol Chester

lol you don't like it when someone, or in this case a few, tell you what you're saying is nonsense.

This all started with Emu jumping up and down decreeing that our outs isn't an acceptable reason for us to lose on Saturday, well they are.

If Richmond can win games without Riewoldt then we can win without Hawkins

Mate, it's not about the 3 changes.
If anyone drew up their best 22 at the start of the year, and used that as a guide they'd get a clearer picture throughout a year rather than using weekly outs as a guide.
Sure, losing one player can be covered. But when you lose one after one your side becomes impotent.

Previously we lost our fringe depth.
Horlin - smith, Lang, ruggles, gregson, McCarthy.

Then we lost some of our flash / up and comers.
Motlop, Menzel, cockatoo.

Then we lost core
Hawkins, Duncan, Selwood, Blicavs.

Now we get a couple back sure. (Menzel, Motlop) But who knows what state they are in.
Add in that kolo, and Guthrie have been out of form.
Parfitt and s. Selwood have missed games through injury.

And then factor in that we might actually have 7 first year players this weekend.

We are brittle right now.

Probably the most optimistic (from our perspective) preview on this thread and its from an Op supporter! I understand trying to keep the lid on, but seriously, the way you demolished Hawthorn in the first half last week (and then let them salvage some pride) we'll be lucky if we're within 10 goals at the end of the game. Hopefully if we survive to meet in the finals you'll get to play the REAL Geelong side.

House I liked in the VFL last year and I can see why he was taken - Great overhead and contested mark and pretty stout goal kicking.

He is not AFL fit or strong enough IMO - but we also dont have much choice. If we bomb it long all day we are in trouble... but give him some decent delivery and he's got a shot.

Id also keep Simpson in - while not a big body by any means, he is quick and skilled and they wont honour him much. Could give us some good service IMO.
Rather him than Zuthrie right now - nothing against Zuthrie as there is something to work with him too - but he's don this year for mine.

GO Catters
I think Simpson has shown more, but I would be more willing to keep Zuth in over him this week... purely due to the Richmond small forwards... Zuth fills more of a need IMO

I guess I was thinking Bews and Ruggles in for that...

Glass half full ladies, gents and bald headed babies. I see this as a game where we can be a little unpredictable given the players we have out, much like the 94 Semi against Carlton at Waverley where we had 3 big players out and still knocked them off.

I reckon we beat the tigers at their own game. They have played small ball in their front half for most of the year with great success. Given Hawkins is out we could do the same. We have to sacrifice the two tall forwards to play as decoy high forward pockets out around the 50m line to take Rance and Astbury out of the game. The next thing will be to play smalls around the front of the centre square then have Menzel and Danger interchanging out of the goal square as the prime leading targets. If they want to zone off to fill that space put someone dangerous on them.

Parsons to get the job on Houli and just tell him no space and no easy kicks, then when we get it to make him work. Grigg also gives them a bit of drive off half back or a wing, So we will have to be tight on him too.

In the midfield, Scooter will have to go to either Martin or Cotchin and we will also have to watch Kane Lambert as well. They will try to man Danger up probably with Lambert or Vlastuin so Menegola needs to get off the chain a bit and make himself dangerous. Guthrie is also another that could do a job here. Let him to run with Cotchin, then beat him in the contest. Easier said than done, but given Cotchin's form this year he will take Guthrie to where the ball is very often.

The one thing that will challenge us is their small forward line. Do we have the pace to cover them? Does Ruggles come back in to provide that cover? He's a better option than Z Guthrie at this stage given body size but I don't think either of them will be in the team. Stewart will go to Caddy, Bews, Tuohy and Mackie can take the other smalls. Lonergan will go to Riewoldt and Henderson will take their resting ruckman.

They will want to play a tough contested inside game, then release their runners on the outside. This is what the swans did effectively last week. Defensively though we cannot we caught out through the middle of the ground. The swans got a lot of good looks at goal by having a loose player drop in to the hole 30-40 out from goal.

He provides zero defensive efforts though, he chaperoned that Swans rookie towards the Swans goals on a few occasions last week. Absolutely farcical if he is picked again this year, mile off the pace.

I would be bringing danger in!

Well if one of Jones/Henry is going to play we'll know within a couple hours because they'll need to post an update of one of them being promoted to the senior list before they post the team for Saturday's game.

Agreed, zuth and simpson were absolutely caught out many times. There was insufficient strength from those two.

I reckon Stanley(speed and strength) and Black (size and strength) are better options. Both Simmo and zuth will be good.

Excellent ins. Don't see it going any other way than playing the most obvious of obvious players
So far, Motlop and Menzel have been confirmed.....let's see how the others go at 6 o'clock

They're just too small frame wise.
A healthy off season in the gym is what's needed
