What caused the rats to lose a 52 pt lead? Did they just think they could cruise home, they were 9 goals ahead, and take their foot off the pedal?Quite amazing actually..to lose by that many goals ahead..
Cats dropped some intensity. Lions picked up a few goals and then all of a sudden their intensity doubled and they killed Geelong at the clearances and starting banking on the goals. Geelong just couldn't raise their intensity back up to where it had been and in the face of fierce pressure they wilted.

Each and every hawthorn player should watch how the Lions held their nerve and composure to not make a silly mistake and find a way to kick a winning goal.
We are the best team in the AFL at the moment and we should account for Geelong quite easy, but as we all know it doesn't always happen the way it should.
Nothing would be better than to wipe the cocky smile of each and every Cats player, supporter, member, coach and the whole dam town. All we need to do is what the Lions did and its hold your nerve and composure.. Pretty simple realy.

Was at the game. Don't think I ever cheered for an opposition club so loudly! Ash McGrath in his 200th game too!

Gee if you run it up the guts against Geelong and hit up leading targets they look rubbish. They seem to rely on Taylor taking marks back there in order to turn defence into attack. Also, when they move the ball down the flank their players create space directly in front of goal and wait for the switch before they all rush at the space looking for a short pass. Will have to make sure we guard against the switch. Will need to stop them playing on as much as possible too. There static play is far more predictable.

This will be a game that will be heavily scrutinised by some coach we all know...;)

Thanks Brishawk, still unbelievable they were beaten, when they were so far ahead. It's certainly something we will have to ensure, we don't take our foot off the pedal like that ratty team., we will have to keep the intensity up through 4 qrtrs..
Np. The thing we need to guard against most is to keep Brisbane out of the corridor. They are much less threatening entering 50 via the flanks.

A comment early about running at the cats up the middle of the ground is spot on
When Freo dismantled the cats early in that final last year that is exactly what they did, ran and carried the ball up the middle, drawing the defenders to the ball carrier and then spotting up players such as Pavlich leading up at the footy
I'm surprised teams haven't used this as a guide to playing against Geelong

Wouldn't mind seeing a certain J. Dunstall make a two second apearance on the Footy Show this week, and pouring a second glass of water over the top of Sam Newman's noggin.

Yes, yes, nobody apparently watches that rubbish any more, yet it strangely pulls reasonable viewing numbers...

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Tom Hawkins point? Lose after the siren? Too funny.

Just goes to show, without the umpires, Geelong do lose close games of footy.

And in other exciting news, may Adam Goodes' knee be as injured as Josh Gibson's ankle, which he so generously kicked to give Gibbo a week's rest. Couldn't have happened to a nicer, more overpaid ambassador.

I'm calling Goodes Soy Sauce from now on. Why? He likes to Kick a Man. (Kikkoman, get it. As you were.)

If you listen to Longmire, Swans played really well. Which therefore means The Age journalists are, as of this morning, putting their salaries on the Swans to win the flag. They're a shoe-in.

If Hawthorn, Geelong and the other four local participants were all to make it, we'd have one final at Etihad Stadium. And if that was to feature the Hawks against an interstate side, given the presence of the Magpies, Bombers, Tigers and Blues, you would rightly hear plenty of squawking from Waverley, given the Hawks copped the short end of the stick in terms of grand final preparation last year.
But that's flak the AFL would be prepared to cop if the trade-off was the league's most popular local clubs all taking part in the most important time of the year.

I see Rohan is looking to shaft the hawks come finals time again

If the top 8 is like this:

1. Hawthorn
2. Geelong
3. Fremante
4. Sydney
5. Essendon
6. Collingwood
7. Richmond
8. Carlton

The Geelong Freo game will be at Etihad. If Freo sneak to 2nd then its possible we have a problem but surely the AFL won't screw us over two years in a row . . . plus take buddy off us . . .

So you're saying we should play through the middle? Won't that then make it difficult to kick to Buddy, Roughy, Hale & Gunston who will all be waiting in the same Forward Pocket?

Did anyone else see Rohan ingesting half a dozen chocolate bars by the Hawthorn bench on Friday night ??

Wasn't sure if it was him or Perry Mason. ;)

Well yes, forgot about that tactic !!
Come on, lets not be cynical, we are on top !!

Especially as he was mouthing off to a Lions player earlier in the game who was standing on the mark of a cats player having a shot for goal. Pity his side lost :D

Was pathetic watching him whisper in Golby's ear. Guarantee he doesn't have the cajones to try that shit on Browny. Hawkins is a douche of the highest order, and you'll be pleased to know that the 4 bays around where the opposition come off the ground were quick to remind him about it. Big ponce couldn't eyeball one of us.

As an exercise in sheer futility I've checked which sides the current top 5 teams get to play twice:
(the coloured names show teams currently outside of the 8) - of course we know our two played finals last year.

Hawks: cats, swans, Pies, weagles, roos

Cats: hawks, swans, port, roos, lions

Freo: Tigers, Weagles, Crows, Saints, dees

Bombers: Tigers, Pies, Blues, Weagles, Giants

Swans: Hawks, cats, Pies, Saints, Giants
