the week started disastrously for the AFL system …
then
it ended very impressively. Strong messages delivered on the key issues – racial stereotyping by a senior club official, gambling, harassment of opponents, and behaviour of both crowds and the security paid to control them.

I mentioned my bewilderment at Dane Rampe and Sinclairs brain fade at the end of 3rd quarter, allowing the Smith kick to go through after the siren in another thread, but i wanted to raise it here as i have noticed many times this year especially in our games and lots of others, defenders simply not killing the ball. Time after time i see defenders who are under pressure 2-3M from goal too scared to rush a behind. I just don't get it.
Im not sure if im drawing a long bow between the incident tonight and my observations about players being reluctant to rush a behind but it just seems like they are forgetting their primary job and thats to stop their opponent scoring at all costs, especially on the last line of defence.
