Oh hello :handbag:

Geelong has been hit with a significant financial sanction after it self-reported a Total Player Payment (TPP) error the club had made.
AFL General Counsel Andrew Dillon confirmed on Thursday afternoon the Cats had been sanctioned $40,000 for breaching the league’s player rules.

Upon further investigation, Ken Wood, AFL Investigations Manager, found the club had produced an “inadvertent administrative error” and, therefore, breached the TPP lodgement rules.

A massive whack for Geelong, says the headline on the AFL website. For salary cap cheating that happened over eight years??? I’d like to hear Agro’s views on this.

Wow, a whole $40,000 fine.

surprised that the AFL didn’t put a bulk order into Frank Costa for a truckload of wet lettuce leaves and really punish Geelong.

8 years of salary cap cheating - that’s not considered systemic is it, which is as I recall the words Ron Evans and Demitrispew used when they reamed us.

Probably needed to have gone 9 years of breaching the rules, then the AFL would have really ripped into Geelong.

What a corrupt, corrupt organisation the AFl is.
Anyone hear how Hirds boy is now a freebie for Essendon as well.....fmd.

Good on Tom.

Despite James being his father he has played football (soccer) his entire life and got trials at several clubs including a high profile one in the Netherlands (Feyenoord, I believe).

That equates to a fine of $5,000 per year.....that should set them back 10 years or so.....the penalty is clearly too harsh and they should challenge it in the High Court.

How much were they inadvertently over the limit?

About one good player? Were they really able to afford Touhy?

I’d like to know how 8 years of “inadvertent” is not “systemic”.

Next time I get audited by the ATO, I’ll tell them my 8 years of not declaring any income was “inadvertent”.

:thumbsu:

Might inadvertently drive off without paying next time I fuel up the car
might just drive sedately to geelong tomorrow along the princes freeway.............in the right lane!!!
