Slight off topic, but with all the Caddy talk lately does anyone else see the trade as a 100% win-win for both Geelong and Richmond? I’d take Parfitt all day for us and I’m sure they’d take Caddy everyday.
No, Caddy is clearly the better get. Richmond made out like bandits in that trade only having to give up a mid-20s pick. Geelong took the L in that exchange; you'll just need to deal with that.

Tim Kelly’s long-term future at Geelong still undecided as West Australian state clubs circle

WEST Coast and Fremantle are aggressively pursuing Geelong midfielder Tim Kelly as he ponders his ongoing future at the Cats.

His manager Anthony Van Der Wielen admitted homesickness was a continuing issue for the Kelly family.

He and his partner Caitlin have three children under 30 months, with their families only able to see their grandchildren sporadically.

FUTURE: CATS KEEN TO EXTEND KELLY, WARY OF RIVALS

RULES: STARTING POINTS CAN MAKE GAME GREAT AGAIN

NOONGAR: GLIMPSES OF KRAKOUER IN CAT KELLY

Geelong has told Kelly it will put a long-term offer in front of him past his initial deal to the end of 2019.

Yet the Cats might also have to decide at some stage whether a trade home would maximise their investment given he is out of contract next year.

Van Der Wielen conceded it was a possibility on “humanitarian” grounds given the couple’s lack of family support in Geelong.

Geelong secured him ahead of the two West Australian clubs with pick 24 in last year’s draft, but would much prefer for him to settle long-term in the city.

“Both Perth clubs are interested. They are banging down the door but I have told them we don’t want to get into any discussions with them,’’ Van Der Wielen said.

“The family thing is definitely an issue but hopefully the will learn to warm to Geelong.

“Geelong have made it crystal clear they don’t want to trade him under any circumstances but they have also said we understand it from a humanitarian side.

“They got (Patrick) Dangerfield to Geelong because of it and they understand it from both sides. They have said they aren’t putting pressure on him.”

“They are prepared to put a good contract in front of him if he wants to sign on. But if they need to back off and give him some time that’s what they will do.”

It would take an exceptional deal for the Cats to even consider a trade, given his superb form and delivery to Geelong’s leading forwards.

But if he did leave the Cats an immediate replacement might be Carlton captain Marc Murphy, considering his free agency rights.

Some senior Cats believe Murphy would help a club clearly in the premiership window and allow Patrick Dangerfield to play as a forward even more.

Geelong clearly needs to improve its ruck stocks despite Rhys Stanley’s strong form last week, with both him and Zac Smith out of contract.

Some Geelong fans have held out hope they could lure Cobden ruckman Sean Darcy back from Fremantle, but he is contracted until 2020.

Daniel Menzel returns through the VFL this weekend after a lingering groin issue and will be desperate to finish the season strongly after receiving only a one-year extension last year

Really love Kelly and obviously Cats must do all they can to keep him thisyear but ...

If it is really clear he and family are going back home at the end of next year then we should be open to a trade this year with our bargaining power much higher but only if we get a fit A grader (no older than 25) as part of the deal. If we got Gaff (and maybe say Lycett, perhaps as a package with one of our fringe going as well) it would be worth the pain.

Gaff is worth significantly more than Kelly. And I like Kelly

But Lycett is a free agent. So we could get him for nothing if chooses us, so there no point putting him in part of the package with Kelly.

I actually don't really care either way on Kelly. I'd like to keep him b/c I know that there is no way on God's green earth that Geelong will drive a top 15 pick for him. It just want happen. Only the long term cats fans will understand that.

Therefore may as well keep him get another 20 games out of him and lose him for a pick in the 30's the following year.

Kelly is so hyped right now. Even a little bit too much for mine. Gets no attention from the opposition, plays completely one way, runs straight through every contest like russian roulette and his decision making skills aren't elite. Reminds me of a slightly better version of when Sammy Menegola burst onto the scence.

His managers comments to me smack of "My client is almost 25. Is on minimum wage so we need to hype the f#$# out of this to squeeze the absolute maximum overs we can for the next 4 years"

You could sign gaff as free agent, west coast agree not to match but do a Lovett for Kelly trade

would want a top 15 pick and a young player for Kelly or at least another pick in the 20's

Kelly is a good player but he wont be around for our next flag, might as well get good value for him while we can.

I think thats the practical way to look at it. Want has something to do with it but you can not control everything.

Trade for a kid like Darcy or Cerra .. Trade for early pick all come after getting him to stay .but I do have concern when the ember this story will not go cold.

If both clubs are hitting him hard the at least we have some bargaining. The above article compare the go home to Danger ... I suspect they have forgotten the 8 years compared to 1...s o Geelong should rightly be ardent in neg at years end.

Cant see it happening, Freo wont let Cerra go
I think that both of these guys want to go home.

This trade is as good as Fremantle will get in that circumstance IMO.

Kelly is a top tier player and they'll pay a premium for that IMO.

Lol this thread is a joke. I guarentee if we'd smashed the Bulldogs like we should have this thread wouldn't have turned into a Kelly trade shitfight, AGAIN. When we lose suddenly all areas of the club are now inept. I'm pretty sure I read an interview with him the other week saying he and the family are very happy here. But please, continue the standard melting, i'll wait to hear some solid information rather than rumours from "sources".

Who said the club was inept? We are responding to an article that has quoted his manager stating that home sickness is definitely happening and that he is being chased by teams in the west, if you dont like the conversation about Kelly then piss off to another thread, this is the TRADE thread.

Nah too piss weak letting players go for unders. We should absolutely demand a first round pick and nothing less. Or he can stay here and finish his contract out.
If we can land Cerra it is equivalent to a top 5 pick IMO.

If Freo trades Cerra, they'll want someone of Kelly's ilk IMO.

Lyon won't be interested in more 18 year olds.

No mate, how about people stop stressing about something totally out of their control and retreading information that was covered weeks ago. Yes it is the trade thread but surely we can "piss off" with all the information that was read 2 months ago. That Jon Ralph article has literally nothing new in it.

This bloke is gone... Very easy to see the writing on the wall... Waste of a draft pick considering how obvious it was he would want out pretty much as soon as he arrived. Knowing Geelong we will get a bunch of mandarins in return. Well played Cats !

No, Caddy is clearly the better get. Richmond made out like bandits in that trade only having to give up a mid-20s pick. Geelong took the L in that exchange; you'll just need to deal with that.

Richmond won the deal straight away but i reckon Parfitt will be a really good player in the future, a better player than Caddy.
