WARNING TO ALL VISITORS TO THE GEELONG BOARD. You are - for the most part - welcome to discuss the current list management & trading situation at Geelong. However, this is our board, so be respectful of the home board posters & don't inflame arguments (make your points succinctly and move on). And if you're just here to troll, then don't bother or you will be enjoying a holiday

Don’t forget Krueger who has a mature body and now Cameron is coming is really a backline option. I think they may run with He do for one more ( great season Hendo), with Krueger replacing Harry until SDK is ready with his body and development, then he comes in for Hendo. Definitely SDK can ruck as well in time. But Krueger coming for Harry would mean Blitz still up the field. Mind you Balta was scary last night what he did to our ducks in the 3rd quarter - he destroyed us.
You can’t say Kruger replaces Taylor. Turn it up, Taylor has been a champion, Kruger hasn’t played a game yet.

I reiterate that Kolo is the harshest marked player on our list. He gets no respect despite routinely beating his opponents this season.
But this is the lunacy that this board produces, that not only can someone suggest a defender who regularly stops his opponent get traded, but just so that a fast guy who can't defend can get games, and many agree with you.

Our most underrated player on the list.
Nothing wrong with wanting some more run on the list, not entirely convinced Clark is the man. Would love to get Witherden back home.

But I think I will keep sticking to defenders who can defend over those that can't or can't do it as well.
I sure hope that remains a focus for Scarlett over the summer.
Did you watch the GF, Kolo basically short passed the ball directly to a Tigers player and the turnover resulted in a goal and started the Tigers run. Also he was playing on Dusty when he went forward and he won the Norm Smith and kicked 4 goals. 3 words: Cough up King!!!!!!

I saw it and if we wrote off every cat with a bad moment, clanger or stuff up in the GF the list of players we'd have would be very short.
He is a reliable defender, who is woefully underrated on here.

I've never been a fan of Kolo and my mates thought I was a bit harsh. At the start of the season I told them to watch him closely they now agree that he is a battler and is VFL standard. Having said that I think he should play on the Reiwoldt types, not the Dusty types.

Yea I don't rate him at all.

Can see what you're saying, and kind of agree, but he's a good player, and a FS...... It'd be harsh

Yeah I know, but only provided Simpson was okay with the move. I doubt this will happen though. GWS will ask for 2 first rounders, or maybe a first rounder and SavRat? They lack rucks, and may see him as a Forward/Ruck. We won't be giving up a DeKoning that's for sure.

To blame him for the loss would be ridiculous but fxxk he seems to regularly in big games either get completely lost or be involved in a game changing clanger. Martin is an absolute champion so to stop him for 4 quarters is probably unrealistic. What is realistic is to expect him to be able to hit a target 15 metres away which was a poor option in the first place. That has nothing to do with Dusty.

I am still scratching my head why you wouldn't put Henry on Dusty. Henry is the faster and more agile player, and decent enough size to handle a Dusty type. Kolo, he lacks agility, he has the turning cycle of a oil rigger if you watch him closely.

It seems we really stuffed up the Dusty match-ups.

How Dangerfield wasn't in the guts for the 3rd quarter whilst we had the lead, and then using Henry on Dusty when deep could've made a large difference.

At the end of the day, if they didn't have Dusty, it would've been a lot closer, and almost line-ball had we got some momentum back in the 2nd half. Still, Tigers are the better team.

After 100+ games why does Kolo still choose to pull off those short dinky sideways kicks? He's one of those players who just has to kick it down the line 50m, otherwise we're just asking for disaster.
OMG, they were stinkers weren't they.

Chris Scott defended Kolo. And Matty Scarlett has a man crush on Kolo. If you look back at all coaching tapes, they both love Kolo.

Those two errors, are just as bad as Malthouse leaving an injured Ben Reid on Tomahawk in 2011 GF.

Followed him a bit pre draft (Bit of a draft Nuffie, nerd lol) and I didn't see 'It' if you know what I mean. That jump off your screen quality. Never looked overly clean, has a bit of toe but not overly quick, kicking looks good but not great etc etc.

I'm not going to sit here and pretend like I'm a scout and write him off, wish the kid nothing but the best and will side with the recruiters as they undoubtedly have seen more of him than me and are therefore far more in the know. I just personally don't see a Selwood/PD replacement, and that's okay, they're bloody hard to come by.

Having said all of that, and this is not me having a dig at him and it could just be coincidence, a form of development etc, but wasn't he trialled as a HBF this year? If it's just development by all means, has happened to many, but not the greatest of signs.

On Stephens. We have seen little. If the Wells team selected Stephens before SDK (who would have been on the needs list and Stephens just another mid) then I think they know something we don't know.

If we had more elite ball users in the back half we'd probably get away with him playing a bit like Domsy and just playing it safe when he finds the ball, but between him, Bews and Blicavs, you really just have to hold your breath and hope it doesn't end in disaster. Probably goes to show how underrated blokes like Mackie were for us - still quality defensively, but a real weapon with ball in hand as well.

Are you talking about Devon Smith? Which Smith?

This is so spot on. When I looked out our team this year with Guthrie and Menegola in the midfield most times, it seriously felt like we were gonna pinch a flag, rather than win one.
We do not have an A-grade star midfielder under age 25. Not yet, maybe Parfitt could be a very decent second-fiddle midfielder, the rest are not gonna be match winners week in week out. There is no Dusty, Danger, Fyfe, Pendles, etc in that group of kids. We need to get one in, soonish.
Isaac.
FWIW i think we’re about a 3% chance of getting him

I respect your admiration of him, but I'm far from convinced.

Time will tell though, and I'm more than happy to be proven wrong.

Martin brushed off a lightly framed but AA quality defender in Byrne-Jones in the prelim and would have eaten Jack Henry alive.

I agree that we should have started Dangerfield in the midfield in Q3 to try to maintain our lead. Everyone knew Richmond would throw everything at us from the opening bounce of the second half and in the end our hard-fought lead was evaporated in what felt like about five minutes.

The whole Taylor thing is mystifying. Yep he wasn’t the attacking player he once was but we have absolutely nobody to play his role.

Like Lonegan he offers nothing offensively these days but he absolutey destroyed Charlie Dixon, Mason Cox, Eric Hipwood and Tom Lynch over 4 weeks.

The whole lot of them didn’t muster 20 possies and 3 goals between then over the entire finals series.

We should be begging him to play as the cupboard is bare. If we are serious about next year he’d be a must.

Nah, you can't make that comparison.

Jack Henry is 192cm, 91kgs. Darcy Bryne-Jones is a small fry only 180cm and 75kgs!

Henry is just as big as Dusty.

Think of it this way, some are tearing into Danger for proving to not be a big game player, and Rohan. Wouldn't have got this far without them.
We can bemoan defenders disposal all we like, but without these guys keeping us with a top 5 defence we also wouldn't get this far. Give me defenders who stop their man over fast blokes who don't any day.

Fair enough.

I admire his achievement in getting this far, but have a question over whether he's made of the right stuff to create a long career.

I hope you're right. Be great to see him succeed.

Mentioned it last week that a mystery backman is looking at coming to us but going to find it hard to get the deal done
I reckon his decision is based on that IMO
