Pike is interesting. Him molier Edwards Conway is a lot of young rucks without any of them being ready for next year (which is what we actually need) but I think this one is more about getting in early. If he had more good vfl games like last year he would have been an early pick in MSD next year so this is about getting in ahead of that. And I think he will be possibly the best of all our ruck/fwds long term so I like it.
I have a feeling some of our rucks are earmarked as forwards or defenders but we will see

They had really done two things …one filled up the ruck role on our list …and done it with youth. Do we think Pike could give short term coverage..as we have seen a fair bit of him? Are we planning on on more of a Stanley SDK mix this year...

As I previously posted. We had seen enough of Big Joe… so we either liked him and drafted him …or did not and looked elsewhere. Probably means there is a good sharing of roles in the VFL with plenty of non playing body development for E,M and P..

I will probably curse us but I get the feeling he is a robust type so here hoping we have finally gotten rid of the Ruck bubear

I hoped Retschko would get a look at it. Played better last season as a bottom ager and didn't really get going this year but has some nice traits as a wing, good size and skills.

He has a good kicking style but from watching a bit of him can be a bit inconsistent hitting targets by foot.

Is that who he reminds me of…if so good get. I presume the kid can canon it by foot then..

Again ..we have picked a guy who has a good combine number...

Ivisic I really like I'm just not sure where we put him. Happy with this draft.

I have really no opinion on him. Is he just another short mid…what does he bring to the table?

Going by this game …he chose poorly at times ..going for the risky kick. ..but the way he ran ..I suspect he will look better with better players around him ..and on bigger grounds..

Agree with the premise but I would have Gryan in the slider category personally. Slid due to being small and that kicking technique. He kicked 7 in a TAC GF and 50 for the season. I think small players are the ones that can buck the slide. If you have a big bodied mid that slides like a Constable or Stevens I think you have very little chance of getting a player. I don't like our first pick on the basis of lack of athletic ability. I would have preferred to take Davidson who slayed the testing.

Constable and Stevens are ordinary to good footballers at best, our first pick Jay Polkinghorne is anything but a ordinary footballer. I'm glad the club doesn't follow your far to simplistic findings, as get me a guy that has natural football talents, which this kid has in bucket fulls. With his only one likely downfall outside a major injury being his unpreparedness to do all the hard things that is takes to become a AFL footballer which generally comes from having a poor attitude, otherwise there is so much to like with Jay.

I'm not, Kuol Mun was uber raw. Pike played at the level

I completely agree. Pike looked to me like a young ruck who'd come through the youth system but didn't have any clear standout attributes. Kuol Mun looked like a guy who'd had basically no coaching or development but had some great attributes.

I thought the potential improvement from getting Kuol Min in a professional environment was much higher. But he would be coming from a long way back and maybe they saw some weaknesses that weren't fixable. Or they loved Pike's workrate.

I’ve seen him half a dozen times live. I’d agree with that. He would sometimes go for too much. I’ll be interested to see how he goes in the VFL.

Of the CGS lads I’d much rather be paying a late rookie pick for Retschko than a teen pick for Reid.

I'm not talking the Inside/Outside gun mid... I'm talking just even an outside mid that can rack it up and get into the general play, they can slip to anywhere in the draft.
We use Mannagh, Miers and Dempsey as those outside players who link up with the mids and generate our arc to arc transitions. Something Bowes can add to if we stop shoe horning him to half forward whenever he gets some momentum.

He looked unfit when I watched him.. He would dod somthing good and follow it up with hands on hips. Is coming forma lon way back. Probably be a better player after a year of VFL.

Being in our system full time will help with that.

I don't think he has a high ceiling but, we already have a few of those prospects. I think he has a decent floor.
