I'm so confused about English - is he good or not? They seem to want to persist with him regardless. Is he just young and inexperienced?

Pick #19 in the 2016 draft, turned 23 a couple of months ago but only played the 47 games

Obviously he's still developing - on the club website he's listed as 205cm & 93kg, which seems a lighter frame than other rucks, especially at his height

I'm not what support the club really have for him in terms of his development. Looking at their list this year they only have 2 recognised rucks, English & Jordon Sweet who is a 22yr old rookie that hasn't played a game - so it's no real surprise that persist with him as they don't really have many options

I didn't watch a great deal of Bulldogs games this year, but when I did it wasn't uncommon to see Dunkley or Bruce being used in the ruck over English who they seemed to favour more up forward at times.

I might be totally wrong on this, but believe I've read previously that during the in under age comps English was a midfielder until the last year or 2 before his draft year when he has a significant growth spurt, and was kinda thrown into the ruck. Maybe if he had a more senior ruck around him to work with him & for him to learn from it would help

C09 has hit it well ..IMO ..English is fine ..he is light. Many Many players his shape ..are far better 25 plus. Think Rod Blake. Frankly he is still too young ..id love to have him on our list but he probably would not be playing at Geelong..at least not regularly.

Who knows...but I doubt it. Imo It would be P11 ..and a future pick and Sav.

I have been against Cameron as anything but a FA from day1 ....This is why.

Talk of Parfitt plus two first rounders is just ridiculous. These silly ambit claims through the media are a complete waste of time.

That will not fly. ... they are trying to focus on more than a replacement for Cameron ..they are making us pay for the loss of Caldwell as well

I'd love to oneday (not with Cameron) see a club match an offer and get stuck with that player and get done for salary cap breach.
It's not hard to be civil at the trade table. Take the compo we'll give you as best as we can via a side deal and everyone walks away happy.

Geelong are extremely fair when it comes to looking after players both going out and coming in.

It can't happen.

The AFL has to vet the matching amount against the cap etc. If the matching figure goes over (assuming a massive set of calculations and some forecasting so they don't wipe out the rest of the playing list) then the AFL tells them no.

That's what I am hoping for here. Cameron's manager would be well aware of what the Giants tabled as an offer, that would have been known to Geelong ... Geelong offers more (or structures it in such a way where they would struggle to match). AFL scrutinises and says, "yeah ... nah" to Giants trying to match.

GWS have done themselves no favors in how they have paid their other stars. That they are getting all "up in our grills" over this and complaining to everybody that doesn't want to listen just goes to show how close they are to becoming a complete shit show for a few years. Dave Matthews was installed by the AFL up there to ensure this sort of thing shouldn't have happened ... and now he is salty ... poor form by him.

If we do get Cameron without GWS matching would we be happy to trade our 3 1sts to North for Pick 2 and future 2nd?

Sav can sit and build for another year and cover Tomma as the cliff for him arrives... and it will.
Granted its not here yet - but tis coming.
As for Simmo - he as a FS wont be going anywhere and the downside of trading out a FS that has grafted his way up the positional ladder to force his way in from last Rookie picked to GF selection on merit not availability would be catastrophic.

It would rip the ethos of what the club internally values apart and is too counter productive to allow. WE will lose someone im sure of that - but not those 2.

GO Catters

Constable Cocky and probably narkle we will lose plus guys like kennerley tarca parsons etc. Doubt we lose simpson or sav.

I cant seenorth trading 2 but if we have trouble trading with gws its the logical route to take the teens picks out of play and try and get gws to accept compo. I doubt thats our plan A but it might be B or C.

I reckon our best chanceof a trade up is if adelaide get 2 for crouch or hawks and gc (4 and 5).

Its an ambit claim which is no chance in reality.

I think most would almost expect them to be strong. mentioning silly players..as Ess did ... does that really help?

If we want to target guys who are RFA .. we better have a very strong backup position ... because ..what happens when a club digs its heals in.

We can walk away ..but then what.

Hearing SOS mention Sam Dek this morning made me feel ill.... if thats the cost of targeting RFA..not sure its worth it.

If that was possible then suggest to GWS they get real or something like that happens and we take Cameron in the draft with an early pick and they get SFA not even compo.Pressure back on them.

Posted this in the Cameron thread but for the sake of some of our fans sanity I want to post if here to to calm everyone down:

More chest beating from gws

There whinging about cook pales in comparison with the distraction they are making before our GF. Very poor form and behind closed doors we’d be furious.

We won’t trade req young players.

Parfitt
Esava
Simpson
SDK
Clark

Are all off the table

Narkle Constable potentially available. But we won’t be trading players that are required.

Thing is Geelong won’t come out and talk about this publicly until after the GF, so we’re only going to hear from one side for another week or so.

And the threat of talking to pies is hollow. Cameron won’t go there, and the threat evaporates when Cameron refuses to entertain it.

Our side of the argument (the more logical less emotive side) is Cameron should be an UFA. He’s given 10 years of service and is a RFA, uncontracted player who they didn’t want to pony up the cash for... and suddenly risk losing him for nothing or keeping him on the cash they didn’t want to use on him.

Trading for a fa has a precedent. Danger. A FA does not carry the same value in a trade as a non-fa.

Danger was a first pick + second pick + non-req player with something coming back.

Danger was younger and the better player imo.

That equates to 11 + 33 + narkle for Cameron + 46

This chest beating bullshit is purely for the optics. They won’t be like that in real life when Wells sits with them and they realise Cameron is out of contract and only coming to Geelong, has given them 10 yrs of service, should be free to go to his club of choice, there is no chance he stays at the $ we have set (that they refused to pay him).

All we need to offer is something SLIGHTLY more than the compensation pick (pick 9), but less than market value. LIKE DANGER.

And we should tell em to stfu in the week we are playing a gf

Now a 28 yr old RFA Cameron (coming off a terrible year) value has Suddenly become more than a 23 year old Chris Judd.

It's crazy man.

Judd at 24 was a Brownlow medalist, Norm Smith Medalist, Premiership captain, AFLPA MVP, 2x AA, 2x B&F.

And he commanded pick 3, pick 20 and Kennedy. So a 1st, a 2nd and a player.

11 + 33 + narkle for Cameron + their 3rd round pick.

That’s the value this trade will be. That’s equates to the precedent of what was paid for a better, younger , RFA a few years ago. The ONLY precedent.
