If reports that Hawthorn are shopping all 26 year olds and over out for the right deal is correct then I’m glad I’m a Geelong supporter. I would be beyond disappointed if guys like Selwood, Hawkins, Duncan, etc were moved out. I can’t cop that.

apologies if this has been raised and i could be completely wrong here so some clarification would be great.

my understanding is squad sizes are 38 (primary) and up to 6 rookie for 44 players max.
Geelong, assuming Clarke goes as well as brownles & constable, that leaves them with 33 players + 2 rookies being
close & Tsap.

with 5 draft picks - 22 (clark), 30, 32, 34, 41. that fills up our 5 remaining primary list spots.
not taking into account the talk we are after stengle... which would take up a spot?
meaning we wouldn't even be able to use 41?

That means it also rules us out of any other player this trade period, i.e. brander as we just don't have the list
space? even losing fort, we're likely to get ceglar so that cancels out.

unless others can be rookied that im not aware of freeing up spots on the list.

Trent Dumont for a bit of midfield cover?

You don't owe anybody anything that's won you nothing. Hawks moves for Mitchell, Wingard and O'Meara hasn't resulted in the ultimate success so move them on. Cutting flag heroes like Bruest and Gunston would be a bit tougher. Agree with you on the Geelong names but would've liked our club to be a little bit more ruthless on the next rung of guys that have fallen short like Blicavs, Guthrie and Menegola.

Not the worst option. Depends if he is there when we get to 40 plus imo

Is he just short of it or another Stewart...

looks to be a nice kick and highlights certainly show some competitiveNess. Spoke really well on sen. No idea where he would go in the draft but wouldn’t be much to complain about if he ended up at Geelong.

I agree with you, but also worth noting that Selwood, Hawkins and Duncan are all one-club premiership champs.

The speculation about Hawthorn is around players like O'Meara, Mitchell and Wingard, all of whom went to Hawthorn for $$ and/or chasing success that they never got.

What I want is a Josh Hunt, D Rich style flat long left foot to break open zones.

The difference is they are backtracking on a strategy that has blown up in their face. They were expecting to remain competitive by bringing in Wingard, O’Meara, Scully, Mitchell, etc. That has clearly failed and now they have no real choice but to take what value they have left.

No reason for Wells to say anything right now. See what happens with the Lobb trade and if that changes the game. There's a offer that in principle both parties agree to but there might be a better one with different trades changing it up
Sticking point in the Lobb trade will be his salary. Would you take on $700K per year for him? Only way it works if Freo agree to pay a significant chunk of his salary.

To add to the rumour mill, at the end of the season Mitchell moved into a rental property. You don't move into a rental unless you think it's possible you are going to move do you? (Or he could have just needed a place to live ;))

Wise tax planning??

The question would be his athletsim. I would have liked to have seen him at the combine.

That's the way i feel about the ones from other clubs we bring in, we owe them nothing as they did not win us a flag

Regarding the Fort/Ceglar situation.

It sounds like Fort is pretty keen to get to Brisbane as maybe they have indicated more game time for him.

If this is the case, I think we may as well let him walk and pick up Ceglar.

If we keep Fort, does he have the motivation to work his arse off at Geelong again to try and get a game? I am not sure he does, considering he didn't get a game when Stanley was out this year anyway. The argument to that is that it is a contract year for him but not sure it would be enough as ruckman seem to get lifelines every year.

As for Ceglar, reports say he would like to play for the Cats and even more so then the Bulldogs. I am not sure why, but if this is the case then it sounds like he is motivated enough to put some pressure on Stanley and if that fails, he becomes greater depth then what Fort clearly provided. He also may have a point to prove to a club pushing him out with a year to run on a contract.

My preference would no doubt be to get a ruckman in that 23-27 age bracket but the options are limited and it doesn't look like happening.

Stanley fighting out for number 1 with Ceglar isn't the worst result whilst hopefully they give Neale and TSap more time in the ruck in the VFL.

Yeah agree in regards to those guys, but Breust, Gunston, Shiels and hodge, Mitchell, Birchall before them, that’s the fabric of the club. That would kill me if Geelong managed the club that way.
