How good was Horne-Francis in the SA final?! Kangas have got a bona fide superstar in the mould of Dusty and Petracca. Very exciting for them.

Didn’t see the u19 game but agree it will be difficult (but not impossible) to get good kids with our picks. In some ways, aside from perhaps the first 4-5 picks, it’s a year that it’s not a real disadvantage to have a raft of second rounders. With a lot of unexposed form we could pick some diamonds if we get our talent iD right.
These were the kids that caught my eye in the Academy game against us - Rachele, Daicos, Horne*, Fahey*, Wanganeen, Erasmus, Callaghan, Johnson, Williams and Mac Andrew. The 2 with the * were standouts imo.

Some have really moved up in draft calculations since then, others have franked their high value expectations. Problem is we don't ever have the picks to grab 1 of those high rated kids so we either nail a value pick or wait for a few years then try to trade them in.

We will probably trade up and maybe trade into next year but do any of the mids ostensibly in our reach stand out to you?

This makes things interesting - Collingwood may not be able to get both through the preseason drafting, so who do they think they can get a trade done for if they can only trade for one and PSD the other?

I would be asking the question about making a package of our second rounders + Kreuger for their first next year. They probably won't bite but worth a go. Otherwise we're not going to get a useful pick for Kreuger, a future 3rd/4th is probably the best we can hope for given their need to get points in.

This is what I’m hoping for over the trade period. I’d love to keep Krueger but assume he’s going. Happy for Fort and Clark to move on. And while I am not in the burn the place to the ground only play younglings camp if happy for any veterans to move on.

If we can get a late first round pick for Clark or enough to trade in with the dogs or another club wanting points.
The. We can go to the draft with something like 17, 32 and 34.

I’d be happy to add Brander for a cheap trade to replace Krueger.
And I really hope we have a crack at fixing our ruck issue. The options are limited but they’re there. Good to move Fort on and let’s look at Flynn, Ladhams, Briggs or Lynch.

The last 5 or so pages that I've bothered to read, with an undercurrent that we should take the "Melbourne approach" reminds me of this post from 2017.

Teams in the top 4 will never ever choose to spend half a decade in the bottom four by choice.
Any chance of an updated "cliff"? ...

Add another column for the median pick number. We are just drafting players we delist in two years time without having had a chance.
That measure wouldn’t tell you much as if you continually finish high in the ladder, as we do, your median pick will be further down the order.

If Clark goes, which sounds more likely than not, best case scenario would be Clark & 34 for 25 (via Carlton for Cerra) & 27. Values Clark around end of first round, which is what Geelong have apparently requested, and Freo don’t have to use or split a first rounder. Look at then trading 30 & 32 for Bulldogs 17. Gets us into the first round and gives the dogs points. Hit the draft with 17, 25 & 27

Barrett on AAA saying he's not 100% convinced that Scott will coach next year based purely on scuttlebutt over in the west among football people, and that we're looking at potentially bringing back H.Taylor if not as an ass. coach, in a mentoring role. Take it with a tablespoon of salt, very speculative.

Can’t believe I’m saying this but we Should have taken Ben Brown for free and gone to the draft with the picks we used on Cameron.
I should add - it would have been a dog act to dump Cameron. We were clearly into him for at least the year and got him to inform the club of his intention to leave. Brown was only made available at the last because North Melbourne were daft.

Agreed. Except we need to use one pick trading a ruck in-unless we swap kreuger for lynch.

Bit of a left field idea...

If fort goes and having just given stanley another 2 years (according to HS) do we look to give henry walsh a rookie spot?

Very raw and will be more of a long term prospect like the greek freak, however I like the thought of having a future line up featuring 3 bigs at 200cm+ of Neale (ruck/fwd), Dekoning (Def/Ruck), Walsh (Fwd/Ruck).

Had afew good games for joeys in the GFL seniors this year and being mentored by peter street.

Good plan and will help to bring his brother to the club after Carlton fail again and sack Voss.

Based on the way he prepared for games and understood the game I’m sure Taylor would be a really good coach or mentor. But I really hope we can move away from only bringing in ex cats players to the club.
I doubt the Scott goes although I can get behind a clean slate to refresh the club. He’s clearly a good coach and I think it’s worth seeing what happens by changing the coaches around him. It’s hard to see it would be better to move him on because in my opinion it’s likely the coach we’d get in would not be as good unless Clarko is coming.

It is surprising that we’ve heard silence from the club since the prelim. So we don’t know what direction the club is going with the coaches, players, game plan, draft, trades or anything. The longer gap between prelim and gf make it longer. So hopefully we start to get some answers from the club although they are very cagey generally so we’ll have to dig deep to find anything.

Oh ok, i thought he was working at the dogs.

Used to but i think he will stay in WA now. Luring staff east from there with all the lockdowns will be hard..we are probably more ikely to look at coaches currently in victoria.

I really liked walsh last year so i wouldnt be against a rookie spot but next years draft looks very good for rucks so thats a comparison we need to weigh up. We need to trade in a ruck more than we need to draft one although id like to do both.

I'm not sure C Scott leaves, unless the fallout post the prelim is more significant than what we're aware. Geelong are actually pretty good at keeping this stuff in house, but still think there would have been a few whispers by now if he was going. I am a little concerned by what Barrett has supposedly stated today on radio (if true), and that there is no certainty about C Scott remaining at Geelong. Between he and Mitch Clearly, both a well connected to the inner circle at Geelong, and perhaps where there's smokes there's fire?

My mail was that the cleanout was agreed from early on to be the assistant coaching group, but they were still confident (as Scott was) that he was the best fit for the role. If he leaves, I think it would signal a pretty big shift in thinking not only by him, but also the people like Drummond and Hocking who are running the show.

If Scott did go, I'd be worried about who we are able to bring in.
- Ross Lyon probably the only 'experienced' coach available. Clarkson seems to be a firm no.
- Unless we go the same route we went in appointing Scott originally, and look at a leading assistant coach like Yze, or others.

If you look at Melb - the premiers - they have got some interesting coaches

Allen Richardson is their Gen/Manager of football - i heard him say - this is the 8th AFL club hes been at - talk about been around the block a few times

Troy Chaplin ( who i thought was a spud - didnt the Tiger supporters call him Charlie Chaplin because of all the jittery blunders he would make ) - he is their backline coach

Another ex Tiger spud - Greg Stafford is their forward line coach

But here is the big one - and i have posted this a couple of times - this bloke should have 10 stars next to his name/resume - Adam Yze is their MIDFIELD coach - and this is his 1st year back - Well the proof is in the pudding - i know they have got sensational talent their - but their midfield is sensational - how they play - the quick movement - great handpassing the lot . Prior to the Dees - he was at Haw during their golden era - as their elite kicking backline coach - that is another huge tick on his resume

When Yze played - he was a good mover - and a lovely kick

If as you say - Scott doesnt coach next coach - then id love to have Yze as Geel coach - simply because he has got the runs on the board

Interesting. As a side note, when you name Barrett as your source, you probably don’t need to clarify that it‘s ‘very speculative’.
