Evan and Steven out of contract they will likely be delisted if no interest from other clubs.
With Port showing interest in Evans, if that's genuine from their end & he wants to make the move, we'll facilitate a trade to get it done rather than delist him and have it done the hard way

With list spots looking pretty tight and the need to upgrade Atkins and Close from the rookie list it looks like we might not use many of our picks? If that's the case I'm wondering what our plan is for picks 36,46,51,54 and 60? Do we think we might look to trade them and try and get down in the order a bit? Seems like alot of those picks will be speculative at best but they hold enough value that it would be a waste to not use them and/or use them to upgrade Atkins and Close.

Caro said tonight that Geelong went off DeGoey based on Cultural issues. The no dickhead policy stands.

Seems odd considering we knew about all the cultural issues the whole time we were into him, it’s not like they happened in the last month.

Would make more sense if we just lost interest because he was getting too expensive. Or heaven forbid, he lost interest in us

Could also be further discussions with collingwood about issues that hasn’t been leaked to the press

The amount of 1st round picks they’ll have for this year im thinking our future 1st will be the one.

Next years first could be a lot earlier pick than this years so i doubt we would risk trading it for bruhn, trading this years first is the lower risk play. They can always swap it with another club for future picks if they want.

Those later picks will either go in player trades (eg they will be involved in trades for bruhn or henry etc) or we will trade them to another club that wants them (for eg freo will have no picks before 70 if their R1 goes on jackson they might swap a future 3rd for one of those picks etc) for 2023 picks rather than waste them outright. We are unlikely to have the list spots for more than 2-3 ND picks.

It may be that a final decision on him needed to be ticked off by the board, which may not be a quick decision. With members, sponsors etc. taken into consideration it was likely then deemed too much of a risk to take him on.

I actually agree with the theory behind this - maybe increase initial contracts to 3 or 4 years, especially for those drafted in the first two rounds

Dead set against the concept of extending it.

For start ..the draft is not equitable. Some players have choice on destination ..and others do not. Then those who propose extension of contracts rarely say ..what they think a player should be getting paid in year 3 or year 4. Most of those kid atm get a big pay increace in year 3 or 4 to balance staying there. My bet is that would go .. So now we sign them for 4 years not 2 ..on extended set rate contracts? Less money.. Seems contrary to our concerns on mental health.... I'd guess you would see a build up of pressure for incontract trade a..nd players departing after 4 years.

What do the clubs do if they decided to cut them before their 4th year. Not every early pick works out. Would they be happy to pay them out?

Maybe they need to re think their approach ... there no one saying they must draft 18 year old kids. ...especially high end kids..who are the most likely to want out. because they are the most likely to be targeted.

I read something like below ..and think ... thats the model they should considering...

And importantly, after strategically managing their loads at times this season, both head into the preliminary final in good physical shape. Hawkins and Jeremy Cameron are firing, too.

How they fit in the Cats’ salary cap is a credit to Geelong’s management and philosophy under Wells and Mackie. They run their own payment system, rather than bow to market forces.

They pay what they think is fair, and have tried to use what players can offer over the age of 30, in the same way other clubs have targeted and in some cases prioritised 18-22

year olds. When players hit 30, they can be written off. Geelong’s mentality is different
.....

There was a time when Geelong could not lure anyone. Not that long ago.. players like Rawlings knocked us back saying it was too long to drive or whatever. I lived thru the big Vic clubs dominating everything, they were the big Fish ... and we were were the minnow's... but the system has come to us... and we are smart enough to use what we have. We are not the big city yet have beaches and play in big game etc etc. A change in on field success can change a lot for smaller clubs. ... but we have used our location as an advantage ..as much as that.

Some want the bright lights other want a quiet family life. My bet some would not mind a club out of AFL central . at the end of the careers. The recent rumour of GC approach 2e ..is smart to me ..Still playing well. Pnp. Professional. .. and a chance to earn for an extra couple of years. Hodge to Brisbane has worked so well he is still living there.

Mature players not kids ... seems the best fit if you are looking to max out what they could offer. Forget ..at least for the moment ... trying to focus on getting kids to stay. You will alwasy loose some. Focus on adding matures that are happy for a chance, that are under valued. and what they offer appeals... just like our location appeals to some.

Imagine being boy or girl growing in Vic ..and they are football heads. Imagining themselve playing in big games , anzac day or or easter mon... big crowds... etc etc. then they get drafted to GWS... , it would not be their choice if given one . Robert Scott's son ..had three choices... had grown up in Gold Coast... and picked North.

Now think of players ten years in the game. Sick of the spotlight, just wants to do the job but without the intrusion of media and public. Its worked for Syd with Lockey, Hall, Buddy ..and probably others...

IF I was them id go to Menegola and offer three years. and want him as part of the deal for TB. The troub for them is they have tied themselves into knots trying to keep players. How much could they offer

Feeder club? This is the mob that matched a guy who had given them 10 years service. Hopper is basically a local product... and he wants out ..why? Not to return home.

Instead we probably see them wanting to lock in drafted players in for 4 years..when some one like TB probably never wanted to go there in the first place.

They are sandbagging the New Orleans swamp land of the AFL. .. and their solution.... is more sandbags.

Adelaide has to want something for Max Michaleson .... and they are going to trade hard for Rankine. Where does Alwyn Jr go in the draft. Id be willling to help them out for a compareable pick in next years draft etc.

I think ..him being OOC ... with so much else hapenning there is a good chance they ask for it. But there is also a good chance of it all going sideway and him going to North for nothing. This time they might need to absorb the pain a little.

Evans I could see us delisting, Stevens though I'd want to give him a chance to work on his disposal a bit.

Disposals also take two to tango so I don't want to be delisting a guy for not hitting up targets that maybe just aren't presenting in a vfl side that was pretty inexperienced
Stevens on 2021 i would keep him Stevens on 2022 i would delist him, i just hope it's second year blues

She is a little tiresome. The women footballers kick up about a minute silence for the Q ..and its the AFLs fault.

Geelong to her mind is Offred with Caro "Aunt Lydia' Wilson trying teach us to accept her AFL Gilead rules as fair and reasonable. Grumpy at us complaining about injustice.

It was the Media bring up the finals thing and she bashes geelong..when they have already said.. they will not ask for the final.

Let me ask this. Imagine Geelong was getting Taranto and Hopper ...can one imagine her reaction.

This is the really frustrating thing for me. Caro is whining about complaints we're not making. Purely manufactured outrage

We would have trouble fitting Henry in the side at the moment.
Neale is our future key back to replace Hawkins
Henry is a third tall. In time he will be Rohan's replacement.
Can he act as a backup ruckman?

Welcome home Henry?
Rohan can't play a full season anyway and we don't really have a replacement for that mobile 3rd marking forward. I think Henry would be a perfect fit.

This is what I said a while back.

I felt if North were somewhat in the mix... It could help us get him a tad on the cheaper side... and not have the trade drag out.

This might be a smaller fish move for them now and possibly could go a little less hard on us as they did in the Cameron trade, considering they will have a much bigger trade talks with Richmond over 2x starting mids (Hopper & Taranto).

Anyway, I'm not loving the idea of Bruhn if it involves our first-rounder & hope that we see it that way + the hope GWS expect unders for him because North might be circling with a PSD selection (although we usually do get our trades done once a guy commits).

I'm just unsure about Bruhn's potential upside... he absolutely could be a nice player in a couple of years.

Same could/would have been said about Caldwell & Hately... but they are no SDK, Holmes or Tim Kelly who all went around the #20 mark recently for us.

I got a bit of a feeling that Willis will be the mid that makes the biggest leap next year.

He didn't train fully yesterday but just looked very strong and zippy in tight situations when he was in the group session.

Also showed this trait in one of his VFL games I saw... I see that from him and think that when his fitness & experience align that he will do some things that guys like Bruhn, Copper Stephens, Knivett just can't physically do. Maybe a good preseason will be enough to make a big jump.

So Willis is the young mid I'm most excited about... And that's probably another reason why I'd live without Bruhn next year and prefer to take a shot at a potentially better kid in the draft (with our 1st rounder that is... Happy to take Bruhn at a cheaper cost for sure).

I feel like our list needs a potentially good young key position player rather than just another average-sized midfielder.

Willis the one I was most excited about from the last draft. Dempsey now gone past him on that but I have very high hopes

I think Bruhn will be better in our side than Gws, he has all the tricks yes did not have great year, but lots of GWS players did not have great years, i want him

I haven't seen alot of him .
But he's got something .
Not a walk up best 22 but if he works hsrd there might be a spot for him.
