and as such on the KPD portion, and the Rookie spot open..... Schlensog becomes more interesting if only from a list fit perspective.

Go Catters
It's interesting that we haven't invited Schlensog or another KPD to train

Maybe it's backing in the players we have & seeing what happens, but really feels like we're leaving ourselves short down back

True, looking at the list it is clear that some holes need to be patched depth wise.

On the back of the tall defender point, what’s the go with Neale? I’m just a little confused on where he would play if he DOES get a game...

Is he much of a tall defender...or more of a ruckman type. If he’s a ruckman, it would be harder for him to get into the 22 behind, Ceglar, Stanley and Ratugolea...

And if anyone knows where I could find some vfl highlights of him that would be great! (I think he’s one of the youngsters who would be pushing for selection this year alongside C. Stephens and N.Stevens)

Neale looks much more suited as a ruck/forward type

He played just the 6 VFL matches last season, the first 3 of those as a key defender and he looked uncomfortable down back, it just didn't seem a natural fit for him

He then moved forward & played some ruck also - looked much more comfortable and would like to see him spend more time in this type of role. Only issue is that we seem to have a few players that may be suited to this role, so will be interesting to see what the club does during the VFL season in terms of our young rucks

There was an interview with our fitness coach re Neale and De Koning. He said De Koning is at his playing weight now but Neale is another year off reaching his. I don’t think Neale will play senior this year based on his comments. You can see in the recent pics of Neale that his upper body is still very light, especially across his shoulders.

Its a fair point although Sdek did sneak a game in. in his second year. But where would he be played, till he is a legit size he will struggle to help in the ruck.

It’s a no brainer for me, KPD.

He won’t play ruck unless we’re desperate.
Reports of him playing in the backline in 2021 were not encouraging but its early days.

I suspect we will be monitoring needs and a mid year draft may well be used if required, lets say if we have need of a tall back.

From a drafting and trade pov.. Id like to see Neale sign a contract extension. Talls need time. He is still a solid season of footy away from playing best22 footy...and when he is ready ..his best position is yet to be determined. Another year in the VFL will give us a better idea. I suspect if SDek andn Blitz become our backline talls he will probably have to find a role elsewhere. His exposed form so far .. marking and converting.. gave an indication he could be a forward/ruck eventually. Ceglar and Stanley probably have two years... and then a team up of Neale and Conway probably seems a reasonable aim. For the moment like most our young kids, he just needs games and work

I saw Brendan McCartney on pakington st the other day, wearing a geelong polo, having a sit down meeting with two tall, athletic young men/boys and who appeared to be their families; both were definitely younger than our current draftees.
Ahead of the curve 👍

That is intriguing not so much about who he was talking to but wearing club polo out would indicate McCartney is back working for the club. Don't suppose you recognised if it was a current polo? Be interesting to have it confirmed and what role he might have.

DKing apparently twittering yesterday ..blabbing on about "The Hornet" at a North training session... handy if you can pick a gun kid when you have an early kid. We have never finished low enough to get a pick like that .. but soon we lose several regular selections and its probable that we fall to an area that earns us P5 to P10 like draft picks. Maybe only for a year or two, maybe a tad longer.

Its unreasonable to expect us to be in and around the finals when we lose Selwood and Hawkins etc. but how long in that zone will depend on our success targeting and acquiring replacements of a high standard

I think we need to add 4 to 6 long term kids in the next 3 drafts.. although its depends on what we get from those on our list currently. How many young players from the last three draft will play 100 games? Id say SDek and Holmes good chances to do that , and after that we do not know enough yet. No father sons this time... No NGA kids... and we will have the usual churn of some kids no matter how good they look when drafted. ... .. and new guy in the job

Yes all our new draft kids look like they can play but the odds are 3 or 4 of them will never play 5 games

No, I didn’t recognise whether it was new or old. Sorry. It would have a been a bit strange for him to be wearing that polo talking to who I assumed were potential draftees, in geelong in a popular place - especially since Its a regular haunt for Cats players after training.

I didn’t even recognise McCarthy initially as I just saw the two kids (both tall and athletic - but both looked completely unrelated) and their family members. I grabbed my takeaway and then was leaving when I saw they had all gotten up, standing outside on the footpath and the man I assumed initially was their dad/grandpa was actually McCarthy and shaking hands with them all.

One of the kids was blonde and maybe 185cm+. He looked a bit like any one of our new blonde draftees. The other one was the same height but had short dark hair, but had Tatts on his legs, which sort of threw me off as I didn’t realise school kids had tattoos. Both looked no more than 19/20 years old.

There was a female at the table who was also in club gear. She looked liked a big sister of the blonde one, but maybe she was there in some official capacity or an AFLW player. She sat away from McCarthy who was in one corner of a 6 person table and she was diametrically opposed.

Brendan is a coach at North Ballarat probably signing up players

Could it possibly be a chat about a Catb spot?
Only way I can understand the bloke with Tatts

McCartney doing what he was born to do, teach and ensure young people are completely understandable of what is to come during their footy careers.
It is no surprise those teams who acquire his services inevitably get the very best out of their players.

I really hope is back connected with our footy club in some capacity.

Well I guess we can cross if Walsh as a target for next year sadly…it was a long shot anyway but it has been reported he has signed a big contract with carlton …where are they getting all of their money with these big contracts recently?
Just like what other clubs try and do. We should now go after the players who won’t get paid what they should.
Offer it now and steal them. Ala Mumford

4-year deal, finishes the year he becomes as a FA

Id have bet money he would stay there. Melb has given the sad song clubs a glimpse of life on the other side... and Carlton should have a list not far from what Melb has built. They can start to add matures that want to go there... why leave?

Where as for us ..attracting players like SW may soon become harder... not that I think that is a bad thing. The next three years I really do not want to be adding anyone over 25 years of age so we can reset our age profile a bit. Of course there will always be the odd player or two who want to come to Geelong because we are geelong. Walsh is premium, he would have cost as much as we paid for any player in recent years.

I think Jones call in quits because of the vax mandate probably has helped their Scap
