Gee the Adel supporters were filthy over that
TBH we had also spent the entire year telling them he was coming and borderline gloating over it haha... the cheering that game was just the icing on a smug year long cake haha

Port Future 1st for Sav and our Future 2nd, is what I floated earlier on in the year. If our slide continues, may only be a 5-8 pick difference and they get Sav.

Wouldn't discount it given the state of our list, and how we'd appear to oppo clubs.
We will win the flag next year I’m very confident

and ...loving it.

If we win that game the pick we would be trading for Smith will be less attractive to the Dogs and probably pushed back enough for them to easily say no.

Winning is a no-go imo.
This being the stupidity of the AFL system.

They need a draft lottery of some description for teams that miss the eight, specifically to avoid this issue.

Clubs who are about to lose a good player to FA - like Essendon or North - are doubly motivated to tank, given that two picks are then tied to their ladder position.

Too much for me.... I'd rather swap our Pick 7 for their Pick 17 which would be lost on Croft/FS bid and give them our 2nd round next year.
They get 2 picks (7 & 11) under Croft' bid.
In the value index. It's 600pts from this year and another 700 pts next year. Equal to a pick 9 but not the same i know.
Allows us to enter '24 with Bailey Smith Pick 17 Pick 37 (port) Pick 80 & keep our 1st rounder in '24.
Bit of a pipe dream... But hey... we are all here to speculate.

I floated something like this in a previous post. 17 will almost certainly get used up. Im think we may have to find picks for points for them.

Id be willing to cough up our 2024 R1 for Gold Coasts R1 pick but apart from that ..i think id rather keep it.

Just a click bait opinion piece but

AFL Trade 2023: Mick McGuane on who your club could lose and where they could be headed

GEELONG

The Cats can expect to lose out-of-contract key defender Esava Ratugolea during the trade period.

Port Adelaide and Sydney are desperate for a key defender and are into the former key forward.

However, one club that hasn’t been widely discussed in the race for Ratugolea is Hawthorn, who should also be having a massive crack at him given their need for another tall down back.

As it stands, the Power look to have their noses in front and the recruitment of Ratugolea would allow Aliir Aliir to play higher rather than as a deep one-on-one defender.

If I were a rival club looking for a young mid-sized forward, I’d be considering Oliver Dempsey.

The 20-year-old is playing good VFL footy and has natural forward craft as he naturally finds space, along with a little bit of X-Factor.

Brandan Parfitt has been in and out of the senior side this season but is a capable AFL midfielder who should also seek out opportunities elsewhere.

Rival clubs should be taking a look at Geelong’s Oliver Dempsey. Picture: Michael Klein

also....

RICHMOND

Ruckman Ivan Soldo is 27 years old and he has probably got to a point in his career where he is sick and tired of being second-fiddle to Toby Nankervis.

While Soldo is still contracted for next year, the Tigers couldn’t begrudge him if he wanted to leave.

Geelong could be the perfect fit for Soldo, given Rhys Stanley is not getting any younger and Jonathon Ceglar has retired.

The Tigers would be keen to improve their draft hand this year and giving up Soldo could allow them to do that.

ESSENDON

All indications are that Darcy Parish wants to stay at the Bombers, but he remains unsigned entering the final round of the season.

Geelong has generally gone for bigger and stronger onballers but Parish would certainly be of interest to the Cats and could reinvigorate their midfield if he can’t agree on a new deal at Tullamarine.
Jesus I really hope Dempsey isn't on other clubs radars

Later R1 ..with the possability of an early r2 ..but with the scepticism of a geelong not sliding ...a mid to late r2

The only issue is can Port trade their Fr1?

He would be .

Every player that's got an upside and not getting decent amount of games in the AFL and out of contact .
Will get looked at imo.

I don't know where the confidence comes from but I am here for it.

2024 flag baby let's go
It comes from taking a measured look at our list and realising that with a couple of trades, longer pre-season and minimal injuries, we'll be in with a shot.

That being said, if we don't address the age gap in our list, I think 4-6 would be our ceiling in 2024.

I'd do it in a heartbeat, and I sense the Dogs will too.

We don't generally have two bad years in a row, and they'll want to get ahead of the Croft bid as you mention.

Plus with Smith's mental fragility, I don't think they'll take the risk of keeping him unhappy for another 12 months when they'll likely get less for him.

The midfield needs urgent attention, and this is a 22 year old kid who tore apart a finals series less than 2 years ago. Smith, Holmes, Clark, Bruhn, Knevitt & Conway would set us up for a decade, and he'd be the poster boy for the club in the post Selwood, Danger & Hawkins era.

This draft is low on midfielders, It's not like we're missing out on drafting a Bont/Petracca here.

Furthermore the two that we all seem to want: Sanders & Stevens, are either going to be pre-listed or out of our range. Depending on what we get for Sav, there's a legit possibility for us to pick up Smith AND Stevens.

That's the midfield just about set for a long time, and we can begin to draft talls starting next year.

Dogs wont trade smith for that (and we wont have p7 anyway it will be 10ish) when hes in contract when they will get at least that next year when hes ooc. They would want a top 10 pick straight up for him.

If we win that game the pick we would be trading for Smith will be less attractive to the Dogs and probably pushed back enough for them to easily say no.

Winning is a no-go imo.

Not trying to win is a no go.

Hes ooc and cripps is not a mug. You never risk a future 1st on an ooc fringe player. Anyone who realistically thinks we would get that is smoking something odd.
