Ditto Kroeger
I only saw him live in the game played late at the season at GMHBA. I only was able to stay to half time.

But..... I was left with a very positive impression. Good size, gets into the action, not overawed considering he has hardly left the rehab group all year. I said to kids then he has to stay on list.

So far so good. Fit and hardened by game time he should be a keeper.

Bailey Smith story was never going away.

Why? Because anyone with any clout connected to the club knows exactly what the primary focus was a long time ago.

No guarantees with these deals, but make no mistake, if Geelong gets its way Smith will be out of the Bulldogs within weeks.

Stay tuned

I believe you but the way mackie talked earlier in the week it was clear to me that we are very keen but we dont think theres any chance the dogs release him this year. We are targeting him for 12 months from now which is realistic (see port and sav last year).

Geelong officials currently in Adelaide trying to convince Ollie Lord to request a trade to Geelong.

Good to see we are getting active and trying to force port to cough up a player. Still i think lord will want to stay there and it wont work but it might get us a 20s pick for sav instead of 37.

I don't think, given the recent media storm over it, that he would request a trade unless he knows it gets done
True, I guess that comes back to Jumping Jack's intel on Connors trying to keep this whole thing quiet.

If the Cats make it clear to them that they will get it done though, it does seem inevitable that he's coming down the highway.

Let's be real, you can only put up with Bevo's weirdness for so long.

Or even ala Bowes.

Get the foot in the door early and make it clear that you rate him 12 months out.

If we did ask for Ollie Lord.. do people think a straight swap would be fair? As lord is still contracted?

Port would probably want us to send sav and a pick for lord. Given hes contracted and our guy isnt straight swap is our best case scenario probably.

Really? I'd think the opposite.

Victorian kid, and Marshall & Georgiades aren't old by any means.

If he comes here and does what's expected of him he'd be getting a game every week by 2025, assuming next year is Hawk's last.

Neale's more a Lobb style second tall, and Henry's in the Gunston/Fritsch mold. There's a spot for him if he's good enough.

I think thats exactly what we are doing.
We know he will go in 12 months, we are trying to get to the front of the queue now so he doesnt pick hawthorn/coll etc next year. I cant see the dogs releasing him this year.

Dixon is almost done (on fumes), marshall is inconsistent and georgiades off an acl. Hes as much chance of games in that forward line than in one with jezza/2 ollies/neale etc.
If he comes here it would be to get home more than about gametime and he doesnt seem unhappy there.

A lot of Marshall's inconsistencies this year seem to be driven by his hip injury though. I think they'd have to play one of Marshall or Lord and I wouldn't choose Lord personally

If Smith is there to get, and he is giving every indication he will leave, why would the Dogs hold him to get less next year? They would get pick 7 from us plus probably whatever we get for Sav this year. They'd be mad to turn that down now for a player they know will leave 12 months from now.

And we need the midfield class now while Danger and Guthrie still have something to give. Is it overs for him? Yeah probably, but we need the talent and he is the right age.

Because they are in the window now and theres no decent mids on the market to replace him with this year nor are there any decent kpds (which is their other need) so they are best to hold him and try and win a flag with him next year even if they then get less in a trade.

Bevo and Smith a polar opposite types. There’s been plenty of talk around AFL circles for a while now about the poor relationship between them.

Smith would flourish at Geelong. His ability is not in question - but if he’s enjoying his surrounds and feels supported by a coach with half a clue - then you can see plenty of reasons why Geelong would appeal.

When he missed the Geelong game with “illness” I started to get very confident. It’s a classic Bevo dummy spit to not let him play against a side people suspect he might request a trade to.

I think at some point soon it will become apparent that, like the Cameron and Dangerfield deals, this was cooking for much longer than we all suspected……. Media included.

Yeah I'm torn...
part of me think Lord is still a fringe player... played 15 games ( 13 home and away games, average of 1.2 goals a game ) but does have huge potential...
But than again he is contracted...
I'm not sure.. I keep swapping in thoughts

Absolutely.

He's usually one of, if not the most accurate kick in the game...but his radar was off big time this year.

The word on the Port board links up with what you're saying. He was getting jabs to play, so he was essentially kicking with a numb leg which no doubt explains the sudden dip in accuracy.

Yeah, and he's at a point now where it's not quite the crossroads, but it's time to really start establishing yourself as a gun of the competition and delivering on your talent.

As you mention, he's clearly not going to be able to do that with Bevo, which is the story of the Dog's as a whole really.

The major selling point will be Scott and the Cats getting the absolute best out of him, where he could end up a top 10 player in the game.

Success - both team and individual - and financial earning are virtually unlimited with this guy. He just needs to be in the right environment.

Smith feels very much like a modern day person/footballer to me. On the front foot with advocating mental health awareness, pushing gender boundaries/norms, stuff like that.

Bevo strikes me as old-school, and wouldn't want a bar of any of that stuff. It's no surprise that they're not getting along as you say.

Bevo is not quite wired properly. A very unhinged unit.

Fine when it’s all rolling along ok but well known to have some serious unexplained meltdowns that burns some player relationships.

Is caddy actually a KPF?? Or is he more a jake stringer/degoey type at AFL??

Thats why there is such a wide range over where he might go draft wise. Might be not big enough as a kpf and not good enough as a full time mid.
