That would be a remarkable outcome but unlikely I would have thought. The risk of trading out is you miss on both. I’m sure though that Mackie/Wells will have a very good idea who is taking who at that point of the draft and won’t trade out unless they are certain that their man will be available to them.

a lot of time to go before the draft ...do we even have P7...

I'd prefer the best pick we can get. Strong Walker vibes from Lord.
If we're not getting a first round pick then Lord is better than any alternative.

He's got flaws, but the kid's kicked 4 in a final already in a position that's notorious for how long it takes to develop.

I'm taking that over pick 30+ any day

I'd trade holmes for two first rounders around the 7-10 mark. Use them and possibly another lesser pick to bring in a KPF like Oscar Allen.

Or maybe is this unrealistic ?

Maybe?

If he is OOC at the end of 2024 ... on current performance we will be lucky to get a late R1. Someone like the Pies will look at what we paid for Bruhn and offer that or less.

If we did ask for Ollie Lord.. do people think a straight swap would be fair? As lord is still contracted?

It would be close...there might be some shuffling of late picks based only on financials determining worth. Id be surprised if Port let him go.. Dixon is 33 but looking less reliable than Hawkins.

Outside of that one final he is closer to delist material than making it

Signing Georgiades would change their thinking for mine.

Dixon, Marshall, Georgiades, Finlayson & young Scully who's developing is enough coverage.

We've arguably got the best forwardline in the game and that's more depth than we have.

Plus, Port are clearly loading up to win it this year or next. You'd think Hinkley is gone in at the end of 2025 otherwise.

As stupid as it may seem to a lot of us, If they believe Sav can get them over the hump then Lord is a small price to pay for them.

I rate him higher than you, but I can understand your sentiment.

Young key position players do take time though, and he's already shown that his best is good enough to be a good key forward at AFL level...albeit it's only been in flashes.

Could always just re-invent him as a defender too. I just can't see us getting anything better than him with a pick that'll blow out to 35 or even 40+.

I d like to take the punt on Lord.. Port do have a few KF ( not heaps ) Michael G, Marshall, Dixon, Finlayson.
Can only hope he has a sniff of a chance wanting to return to Geelong and here is his chance

To be fair to Holmes he has done much much more than Bruhn and Bruhn's trade value (about #19) should really be an absolute minimum starting point for Holmes.

I doubt we'd get a top ten though unless the club that wants him holds one around #10.

If we ever traded Holmes for a pick 20+ I'd wanna start throwing down with whoever signed off on it.

P.S I just wanna keep Holmes and have him reach his potential for us.

With the clock ticking on Danger and Cameron ..just how patient will the club be?

If Smith is there to get, and he is giving every indication he will leave, why would the Dogs hold him to get less next year? They would get pick 7 from us plus probably whatever we get for Sav this year. They'd be mad to turn that down now for a player they know will leave 12 months from now.

And we need the midfield class now while Danger and Guthrie still have something to give. Is it overs for him? Yeah probably, but we need the talent and he is the right age.

For the sake of argument, let’s assume that Smith changes his mind and wants to leave. Under contract what sort of deal would it take?

I’m thinking pick 7 plus FF plus F2. A lot to give up. I think that’s too much for one player where our list is right now. If we were likely to challenge then perhaps. But right now I think we should be building our list systematically before throwing all our eggs into the one basket. We still have a number of holes to fill.
Geelong would never do that deal.
