Ask and we'll try our best to assist - so here's 2024 Provisional AFL Draft Order

Oh wow.

The property purchase is fair dinkum?

What do we have to get a deal done though?
No idea.
He is a Restricted free agent in the upcoming year. So it will interesting to see how it unfolds.
RFA are a two edged sword for clubs. Do they pull the trigger early if an extension can’t be agreed to?
A bit like the NBA NFL?? After all the AFLPA has studied them closely over the past half a dozen years.

I know folks on social media talk shit, but this comment was from 2 years ago when JHF was linked to Port and obviously prior to the trade being done:

"I personally wouldn’t want him to come to Port, not worth Butters or Rozee. The crows can have JHF cause I’m not interested in squeezing him into our squad. I would trade Zak Butters to Geelong to bring Brad Close back home to SA cause he’s worth a Port steal."

While this was a comment posted in reply to Ports tweet following our win over then in the QF

It seems that there's a number of Port fans who genuinely believe he's heading our way at some stage

Yeah, it's a pretty good landing spot for a selling club IMO. If the club bottoms out, then they get a sweet-as pick that often outstrips the value of the player. If the club doesn't bottom out, then typically, they match.

Butters be great but we are better off pumping games into Clark and hoping he turns out to be a star.

As for Reid, he is a generational talent and having a player like that on the list would make us premiership contenders for a decade.
You overpay for those type of footballers.

Wonder if Walsh wants to return to the region

My understanding is Walsh has no interest in returning home.

I think if they were to move a bigger $ player it would probably be Cerra (if there's enough interest from other clubs).

Its 2 years before he's an RFA.

Why? It is obvious that it's time to call time with him.

Guessing we don't want to lose significant experience all at once - stagger the retirements, but have veterans know they won't necessarily be first choice selections going forward and could find themselves playing VFL for extended periods

I suppose if it’s a toss up between offering Jed a one year deal and Duncan, I’m more inclined to go for Jed, despite his injuries he’s going to have more impact as a defender than Mitch will.

I get that and the VFL coach probably doesnt mind in a way.
But if he plays more afl games next year than he did this year (5) then we are totally stupid.

I really hope Knevitt takes that next step, we’ve struggled to draft midfield studs, particularly taller ones, to have our last two in Cooper Stephens and Knevitt not become AFL standard would be a tragedy.
I have a weird confidence we'll get a player from Knevitt. Just maybe not a mid.

Runs all day, takes a great contested mark, good kick, good decision maker, 194cm. Give him one full preseason with the midfield group and if it's not working flip him over to the defenders for a while see what happens. Doesn't mind swinging forward for a goal either.

Isn't butters contracted for 26?

It’s not an overreaction to see we need to make some changes. Our youth looks great and some of the veterans are still very important.
But we can make a decision to move on a number of the older out of contract players without losing much to the team.
We have plenty of experienced players without needing Duncan, Rohan, Stanley etc to be part of the club.

Some serious questions need to be asked on players like Atkins. He’s been poor since Selwood left the midfield. It wasn’t just his game last night it’s a big body of work where he was not good enough. They need to either move past him or find another role for him launch as down back.
