Maybe Kolo has seen SDK miss selection and thinks his spot isn't that safe? If there's a club offering 3+ years and we're only offering say 2 maybe he might think about leaving even though he was adamant he was staying.

I don't see contract length being a big issue from Kolo POV as he could just go to Tassie after his next deal with us. Someone previously said the club were concerned about the number of his concussions and maybe that is the sticking point for the club re 2 or 3 years.

Haha bulldogs board think they've exposed some under the table deal between Cotton On and us/Baz.

Reckon it's going to "blow up".

Do they think we're as poorly run as Carlton?

lol lets be honest here, how many clubs are involve in "under the table deals" in the league? or should it be how many that are not?

Martin is one I’d be happy to pass on - not sure why there’s the interest in a player who’s spent more time with the teams medical staff over recent years than with his teammates on the field

It’s similar with seeing some suggesting we should look at Preuss who after joing GWS, played 0 senior games in 3 of his 4 seniors systems with them due to injury and hasn’t played at senior level since round 21 2022

Somehow these guys who’ve been delisted by other teams & been battling significant injury concerns, are suddenly some sort of superstars just waiting for the right team to pick them up - don’t get it
Last paragraph I definitely agree with, that is often the case, but on this occasion we’re talking a player who has been on hefty contracts for a long time that is supposedly coming for significantly less, so not sure anyone is expecting a superstar.

I’m happy to trial him for very little as he can certainly play. Not expecting the world though.

Their board is suggesting there was some deal in the last 3 years between Cotton On and Baz, without realising that as Baz was contracted to them during this period, only the Dogs could benefit from it not Geelong.

They have exposed their own corruption. Good job Doggies

So Bailey Smith gets the keys to his new digs from a my mate the Landscaper from Bellbrae this week...
And I see "I can't believe it's not Butter's" seems to have his roots just about to be planted nearby.
GiddyUp Catters!!

Absolutely not ideal. Blicavs dropped off in midfield and our defense looked it's best this year with Blitz in defense. SDKs best this year was up the field and while I don't know if 1st ruck is viable he was very good as a 2nd ruck because he was getting around the ground and using the ball very well.
Stewart is another interesting one. His best was in midfield and his PF was poor in defense. Do they give him another preseason in midfield and make it a full time gig.
I'm not sure Humphries on the wing is the progression either off half back he was something else with his distribution. We need genuine pace on the wing though.
Yes half back was amazing but imagine him kicking inside 50 with a bit of pace and the licence to attack. Also hasn’t done more than one proper pre season so I expect the running to go to an next level in the next few years.

That would require some nuance and analytical skills.

After seeing the way some of them have described him on their board i can see why he'd want to get the hell out of there.

I highly doubt that a club, Geelong or any other, in the current age would be so brazen to have put in such an obvious and in your face deal like the one Bailey Smith has with Cotton On, on the supposed guarantee BS would request a trade to Geelong when the time arose.

Subtle much? It screams look into us, and why would any club do such a thing?

It makes no sense.

"Hi Bailey, we're wanting to sign you to a long contract on the condition, which we can't legally hold you to, that you request a trade to the Cats in 2024. Also, you need to intentionally play badly in 2023, which damages your brand, and by extension ours, but is worth it to make sure the club we sponsor holds onto one extra lottery ticket which they have a proven track record of burning."

they need to log off and take a nap

Nah, apparently our underhand deals all involve buying farmland on the outskirts of town for the players

GiddyUp Catters!!

Zac Butters has bought a house down in Geelong now? Come on don’t be silly!

Comment on here about rookies requiring trades when OOC or being DFAs - apparently they're only DFA if you offer them an additional rookie contract?

If we're chasing Cillian Burke then likely we offer him a senior contract so that means it required a trade?

Any gurus want to confirm?

Patience Grasshopper Patience. Let time pass, as it will unravel all.

Smith is a done deal and just waiting on a formal announcement. No change from that in the last few weeks (or more). But the Zac Butters thing seems a bit left field if I'm being 100% honest. Not sure if we might be talking to similar people connected with the club but when I raised the Zac Butters matter I got laughed at and told "not a snowflakes chance".

Unless Butters is buying property for life after football and there's no connection to the GFC. Tom De Koning owns property in Torquay but that doesn't mean he's playing for Geelong next year.

On Martin, I have no doubts we'd have done our due diligence and had his body assessed. The fact we're considered the leader for his services would suggest we believe we can fix whatever issues have plagued him.

But it's still massive risk - an average of only playing 13 games per season is a huge red flag.
I think wed take 13 games from a bloke that costs us nothing to get, very low risk pick and the talent is there.

I found the following image from Draft Guru and while it's following the trade period, it would suggest the following prior to trades:

Richmond
Geelong
Port
Brisbane

That matches the AFL ladder after the season - but not sure it helps as it's slightly different because here the higher placed team lost the QF while the 2 higher placed teams wont QF

I've gone back over a few other years, and can't find a similar situation to this year to get a good comparison - lower ranked QF team wins, with both teams from that QF going on to lose their respective PFs

Guessing it's not a situation that comes up very often then
