2024 Free Agency Period​

The AFL introduced free agency at the end of the 2012 season, giving players another vehicle where they can transfer from one club to another. Free agency is a common form of player movement in major football and sporting codes around the world.

Free Agency Opens: Friday October 4 at 9.00am
Free Agency Closes: Friday October 11 at 5.00pm

Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period​

Trade Period Opens: Monday October 7 at 9.00am
Trade Period Closes: Wednesday October 16 at 7.30pm

Because if they trade him as a throw in for pick 200 now it means he can start with them earlier as a pose to waiting after the drafts.

This is the question I had before that post somehow mistook for being about trading for an Irish player.

Isn't the dfa thing only if we offered him a rookie contract? If we offer a senior list contract he's not DFA

I asked Dwayne on SEN and he says it's based on ladder spots pre-finals. Not common.
2016 would be a good one to check. Only really affects draft positions, so 4th is fine for me.

It does give us the better draft pick - so that’s one bonus of finishing a rung lower than we may have thought we would

I highly doubt that a club, Geelong or any other, in the current age would be so brazen to have put in such an obvious and in your face deal like the one Bailey Smith has with Cotton On, on the supposed guarantee BS would request a trade to Geelong when the time arose.

Subtle much? It screams look into us, and why would any club do such a thing?

Costa Property Group paid Gary Ablett, then Selwood to use their images on billboards in the greater Geelong area.

In February 2013, AFL advised the arrangement ($30,000 to $50,000) was to be included in Geelong’s salary cap from 2014.

Geelong had sufficient funds in the injury payments allowance to absorb the payment, without affecting Selwood or other players.

Judd was rumoured to be paid a $250,000 p.a. by Visy in 2012.

Correct but this way would save the uncertainty of not knowing if he will get picked up or not.

Why not?
Butters is as good as it gets.
Close is replaceable, only plays really well when the whole team does, but is of value.

Because i would be saving those picks to chase cadman or reid as both fill a bigger need. I love butters but i wouldnt chase him at the expense of that.

I was disappointed we didn't reward effort this year, and while we knew Mitch Hardie didn't suit our style of play he should have been rewarded with at least 1 game.
