Rumour GFC 2024 Player Trading, Drafting FA, Rumours and Wish lists Pt 3

One could suggest that most of that is off topic considering that Martin is already on our list and not really a player that would fall under the categories of one we're going to be targeting via trade, FA or in the draft

And considering we've got live threads for discussion of Jack, the whole discussion around what type of role he could play for us is probably best suited there

One could if one was being pedantic and wanting to shut most discussions down. One could say we need large lectures when anything moves even slightly from the most specific content. Which is about 50% of the posts in any thread.

At least now we know simply to report posts as spam, such as they who dared to mention Martin's role in a thread that doesn't have his name in it.

🥱

Cut the attitude yeah

No one's shutting down any discussion nor is anyone in trouble for discussion that's taken place

All that's been asked is to move the chat to more suitable threads - I can promise you I'm not the only one getting confused by alerts for the trade & draft discussion but is instead reading reviews for grand finals from over a decade ago

Is there any chance that the discussion could move on from events that occurred over a decade ago - there's not one player currently on our list that was on it for either the 08 or 09 seasons

I know it's the off season, but repeated discussion of extremely old topics is tiring

Being a footy forum, for sure we all can have our two bobs worth with what our feelings were at the time of certain events and topics and make comments if need be but as you say cat_09: it's way, way in the past. Have our say if we must, then move on because we have so much to look forward to with being supporters of this effen amazing club and GO 'YOUNG' CATS !!!

It's all good - I think it's like we see at times were discussion starts on one track and then down the line we venture off on different tangents... Message board Chinese whispers type thing

Seeing how we try to utilise Martin during his time with us will be interesting to see, and comparing potential roles with what we've seen from other current or former players is a logical discussion & obvious discussion point

This is where the "Chinese whispers" type idea comes into things, because what starts as one intended line of discussion takes different paths as folks pick up a stand they want to run with

One other aspect of Martin's recruitment & playing position to keep an eye on will be the flow on effect for others - if he's looked at as a primarily a forward, does that interrupt what's been a pretty settled setup over recent seasons or does he get looked at to provide run from the backline

People who get upset about '08 forget about the 3/4 time in ' 09 speech by our leaders, that essentially said: 'we're not losing today.'

We don't win '09, without losing '08. Wouldn't have been anywhere near enough heartbreak, against a side who seemingly had our measure at every turn and was up by 12 points in a low scoring game.

'08 hurts, but I view '08 and '09 in a vacuum together - you only get 1, and the redemption was oh so sweet.
Agree with all that… but Hawthorn… I mean.. cmon…

We will get them in a GF…

Go Catters

Why the pedantic bullshit in several threads?

It’s off season so we generally let things wander a little but I’ve been here sporadically and I’m seeing way too much tight panties bunched over wanting to be internet king.

Let it go..
and sunshine… let’s all find some

So for 2025 …. do we see us looking to trade in another mid or a tall with our R1 pick or do we go to draft ?
We need one more true first choice mid under 26 in my opinion. Holmes and Smith are likely A graders through there but we need one more to completely the rotation. Bruhn, Clark, Bowes are handy but need to lift a notch. Think there's a solid chance Dempsey moves to the middle too, i think he moves a bit like Connor Rozee, but that won't be tomorrow if it happens at all

Unless the mid top tier calibre (top 30 mid in the competition), we might as well stick with what we have. I think we should be on the look out for a decent conventional KPF, otherwise we should hoover up any outside class on any line

There are always these types of fights
Timely reminder to study the difference between having a respectful discussion and falling into an argument.
Some on here should also realise that no-one ever wins an argument on the internet................far better to be respectful , accept others views and not try to change them.

Depends on if we are targeting Reid or cadman or similar in a trade for 2026. If so I would just trade the pick forward to 26. Otherwise we could go either way but I'd be looking tall as blicavs and Stanley are done and Conway and a few others have question marks. Obviously if sdk and neale sign on it helps but id look tall.

All discussions in good faith should be encouraged. It's pedantic bullshit to pick apart exactly what could have gone where and why one person didn't put the most specific comment in the most specific thread.

See above: CHAWKTs absolutely stellar contribution. Technically it isn't a GFC trading, drafting post but it's an interesting discussion nonetheless. More of that is always a good thing.

My 2cents.

All of this …if we get the nod from either of those names then look to do what we have to prepare and have enough trade collateral.

A legit FA would be ideal .Tall or mid. Like Smith and Stengle.. its hard to quantify the boost you get for a nothing player.

An FA would be great especially If you got a top tier guy like ldu for free (just a general example).

But yes my point was if we are chasing one of these guys then we will look to build trade collateral (picks and players) and you will probably be able to see it in the moves we make.

Hey all, loving the discussion but as we begin prep to update the thread to our new 2025 edition, how would we feel about moving discussion of current players & potental roles this upcoming season to say our “Best 23 for Season 2025” thread?

If it would help with the flow of discussion, I’m happy to move recent posts to that thread to continue the chat and then will shortly get a 2025 draft thread going

Cheers all
