It did look really terrible. Does anybody know if there is another Ground the Geelong VFL could play on besides GMHBA?

Regardless a good surface should hold up a lot better.
I feel like Geelong West would be most suitable for the VFL. Maybe Deakin if they had changerooms. That said, I liked the condition of the ground against the dogs. Reminds me of country footy

Its an outdoor sport in late July with a ground that is highly utilised by AFL, VFL, AFLW and probably VFLW.

Sure another traning facility would be handy but FFS its footy. Been played in muddy conditions before.

I know the players of today dont know about mud and expect a track meet everytime, but FFS its footy.

Not saying its ok all the time but every now and again its gonna raon, be wet and muddy underfoot.
GAS didnt seem to mind it.

Look at the G and how torn up it is. Granted the 5 went ok too... but still you see my point.

Didn't hear any Bulldog players complaining about the surface

JUH did after the match -

“It was (like) running out in a paddock with how muddy it was, it was pretty dangerous out there – obviously just had to keep your feet, but it was really wet out there,” Ugle-Hagan explained.

And later asked who would have complained the most of his teammates given the conditions, the key forward was quick to throw him and his attacking counterparts under the bus.

“It would probably be us key forwards honestly, we hate that stuff but we went alright on the ground,” joked Ugle-Hagan.

I think the ground management is very poor , 2 cases and they have flunked both of them

That cricket match fiasco , i was watching that and Michael Vaughan the ex England captain was in the commentary - and he said Cricket has a habit of doing this to itself , well i think he was wrong their . But he also said the forecast the day before ( Saturday ) was for a heap of rain , thus why wouldnt you put alot more covers around the pitch , which they didnt

Im all for the VFL to be played as the curtain raiser , but it is beyond stupid to do that if the forecast is no good , or their has been rain in the preceeding days

Talk about Hicksville County

I didn't read them at the time!!

Has the club explained what the issue is? Was it just the fact there was a curtain raiser on a wet day? Or is there an underlying problem?

The phone network at the ground couldn't even handle a tiny BBL crowd tonight. The wifi worked sporadically but was slow and kept dropping out. Frustrating to say the least when the event hosts didn't even display the score on the screens 95% of the night as it meant it was impossible to check what the score was.

The scoreboard use was shithouse

Haha the colour was fine - and they used the whole screen on replays instead of wasting a third of it with advertising.

They just didn't show the scorecard nearly often enough.
This isn't the new scoreboard?

No new scoreboard yet - but the scoreboards have never worked with the cricket scores, and we don’t have one of those scrolling scoreboards on the stands like we see at Marvel & the MCG as they’ll keep the current information on those such as the batsmen, bowler & score info, without being totally reliant on the large scoreboard

As for the wifi - never used it at the ground, not sure how reliable it is

But not issues with mobile network coverage last night - could comfortable use my phone all night for a variety of activities without issue

Atleast we found the member at the agm saying they didn’t want to come to Geelong

Is that the one that’s also meant to be for community use?

If so, I believe the plan is for it to be built where the current outdoor netball courts are

I think it mentioned car park a3?

“There’s a little way to go but we’ve got really strong alignment on the location of that, which would be roughly on the A3 car park,” King said.

Guess it comes down to the network provider, whether they have provided any additional boost (i.e. for big events roll out temp antennas) and whether they permit affiliated MVNOs to utilise that boost service. Really up to the telco carrier.

I'm with Optus, so it can be sketchy - there's areas in Waurn Ponds that I get no coverage, and I've previously had issues at KP

But was pleasantly surprised to have had no issues during the Matildas game or cricket

Interesting that Optus was fine. I was on Telstra and it was as unusable as it is during the AFL season.

Mate Telstra since they turned off 3g in regional is sh!t.

Use to have coverage everywhere, now soon as I leave a town its down.

I reckon the blackspots would of increased 10 fold, since they shut down the 3g.

In regional we just want to make a phone call, not watch/ stream videos and cr@p like you city folk.

Telstra have a lot of work to do.

We used the 3g when we come home from LA bc Telstra uses that for the prepaid local system when we come home to use local numbers and not get charged the seppo international roaming fees.
Was a great network. Have no doubt quality of service has dropped bc 3g while slow at least worked everywhere

Yeah - it is a bit of trend with technology - it gets more powerful, but also concentrated to smaller areas. Meanwhile the older tech gets uneconomical as users drop (3g was probably never economical in the more remote areas).
Same with tv reception. We used to get poor analogue over VHF, but at least there was something and we could watch the footy. Then VHF was dropped for digital over UHF, since then, nothing.
