Hawks fan here so haven’t really payed much attention but does stage 5 include media boxes for when Kardinia Park hosts cricket games?
Sure does, something much needed as the current media centre is square on to the pitch which is no good for cricket. Top level directly behind the goals.

With our stint at the world cup done, thought it worth saying geez Kardinia Park (and by extension geelong) looked good on the world stage this past week!
Obviously the crowds haven't been there given the nature of this stage of the tournament, but hopefully it's a sign of more cricket to come :)

I did not think that a north / south pitch orientation met with ICC specifications.

How / when did that change?

Yeah it's an odd one. Off the top of my head it moved back to north-south before last season, not sure how they managed to have it allowed... but it is much better I think, fairly short square boundaries but it makes more sense visually I think.

The change was made back in 2019, ahead of the BBL 09 season, and it's been orientated that way since:

“I know we’ve maximised the boundaries that we have here,” curator Liam Kirkman said.

“It’s obviously a long field and it’s the square boundaries that everyone talks about and they are short, but we meet the standard and we’ve got ICC approval.

“The boundary is closer to 60m east and west and it’s about 74m north and south.”

For the first time in about a decade, the drop-in pitch will run goalpost to goalpost, making for more favourable conditions for the players and a greater viewing spectacle.

Does anyone know if the social club is still being extended into the new stand?

There was surveys done asking if social club members would rather have access to both areas of the social clubs, old and new or just stay in one...

However like most things with the club it's just gone silent. Love the club but they aren't real flash in their communication with members.

Just read that the state gov are allocating 300 mill to upgrade kp for the comm games, is it possible we see another stage pop up?

No, because there's no $300 million for further KP upgrades

The State Government announcement was for nearly $300 million in Commonwealth Games projects in the Geelong region - doubt there'll be much of that allocated to KP

Projects that money will be allocated towards includes:
  • Athletes village in Waurn Ponds
  • purpose built swimming centre in Armstrong Creek; swimming, para-swimming and diving
  • Artistic gymnastics and weightlifting venue in Waurn Ponds; after the games it'll become seven multi-sport courts, a dance studio, and a regional-level gymnastics centre

Is the capacity after stage 5 is complete all this ground will ever hold? Is there possibilities of increasing the capacity in say 2 decades time or would we be talking about a new stadium being built?

Unless they build out on top of Moorabool street I can’t see any other major stages.
Which is what it will be, Hickey stand is garbage and will need to be replaced in the next 15-20 years without doubt.

I haven't read much regarding the location for the aquatic centre or the multiple purpose sports stadium outside of the suburbs mentioned

The athletes village has a little more known about it:

"The state government confirmed the new athletes’ village will be built at the Waurn Ponds Station precinct, in consultation with the local community and Traditional Owners, and host about 2500 athletes and officials."

That would offer easy access to public transport for the athletes & officials using the village

It is garbage, I agree. Apparently it only holds 5000, which for an entire wing is insane. They should get 15-18000 in there with a half decent sized stand

The second story concourse is so squished and doesn’t provide any food or drink outlets.

It’s not a good stand I agree.
