I'm hoping its at least mid-Jan.

That's about when I'll be driving back home to Melbourne + I can pop in on the way home. Maybe even just buy my membership then.

For those unable to read the article:

The Joel Selwood Stand is the cornerstone of the redevelopment.

Replacing the Ford Stand, it will hold 14,000 people and include a Gary Ablett Terrace on the ground level of the two-tiered stand.

It will also contain a new Fred Flanagan Room.

The announcement comes soon after it was revealed that the new northern entry point to Kardinia Park will be known as Djilang Plaza.

The process to name the stand started last year when the state government sought ideas via its Engage Victoria website.

The Kardinia Park Stadium Trust (KPST) managed the process on the government’s behalf and chief executive Gerard Griffin said it became quickly apparent that Selwood’s name would be hard to top.

The decision was formalised by the KPST board and signed off by Sports Minister Steve Dimopoulos.

Happy with that name - but am a bit surprised. Pretty sure the club has said in recent times they wanted to move away from naming new stands after individuals.

Don't forget that it's not a Club decision - we're a tenant at KP, it's the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust that oversee operations -
The Kardinia Park Stadium Trust (Trust) is a statutory authority established under the Kardinia Park Stadium Act, 2016.

The Trust, governed by a board of seven Trustees, has been established to administer, promote and manage the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust Land more commonly known as GMHBA Stadium.

As for the naming of the new stand, it was the KPST and State Government that oversaw that process -

Looks like we’re getting a name shortly, possibly tomorrow…

Great news…. But while we are naming things can we:
Name the light towers after Mathew Knights? They are now known as Mathew Knight lights.
Name the car park after Jack Parkin. This is now the Parkin car park.

These are all great ideas and I’m happy to give them to the club for free.

Here's an idea- have special numbered seats in gold or silver or whatever, give them players names.

For example- 'I'm sitting on Gary Ablett Snr! /seat" :thumbsupv1::thumbsupv1:

Thought the obvious choice was the stand to be named the Gary Ablett Snr stand because the terrace before was named after him. But happy for the great man to have the new stand named after him after all he has given to the club and also being the clubs only four time premiership player.

Good choice but I would really have liked The Captains' Stand.

The War Memorial in Canberra has the Avenue of Honour for VC recipients, it would have been a great opportunity to have something similar honouring past captains. He may be at another club now but Tom Harley played a massive part in these past 20 years including setting the standards for a young Joel when he first arrived.

I do like that. With a special write up/mural set up with in the stand to celebrate every club captain. Too late now but nice idea

When's this meant to be finished? I reckon it looks awesome from the images.

There's a BBL match at KP on 10 Dec - not sure it'll be finished for then, but they do seem to be getting close

Not sure when the next event is planned after that, so maybe taking their time to ensure its all good to go for the next season rather than rushing for a cricket match next month

Thanks. It'll be interesting to see when it's completed.
