I’m not surprised at all by the result. If anything, I’m surprised we made it as far as we did over the last 2 years…

Our structure is horrible. Lacking natural forwards. Meh ruckman. Shocking tall backs (other than Aliir)

Coaching is horrendous. The game plan is diabolical. No instinctive forward system at all.

The list is okay, but IMO over rated. We’re severely lacking in developing, young key position players.

I just don’t see where the improvement will come from?
We have continually drafted flankers we want to turn into mids and under-sized KPPs.
The Rozee selection was a mistake. To have that pick and not take Ben King was a stuff up. Hindsight.

Haha. One of these things is not like the other - John Longmire / Ken Hinkley
There was a huge amount of anti-Longmire discussions on the Swans board (at least there was a few years ago before I had a massive melt about the constant negativity and swore never to return). The two main gripes (and I agreed with both of them) were that he seemed completely reluctant to develop and/or implement a Plan B on match day, and an incredibly dated Plan A that was good enough to scrape enough wins together to make Finals, but not actually progress.

The last 2 years has seen a complete reinvention of the gameplan and I'm willing to put my hand up and say I got it really wrong. But it was pretty depressing reading the Longmire thread before then.

I see some similarities on complaints around Hinkley's coaching, so I'm not convinced it won't change in the future. Tonight's game would be a massive statistical outlier and I reckon the predictions of 0-5 are far too pessimistic.

I wish our forwards would at least look frustrated at our midfielders. It makes them look like they have no clue what they’re doing. Like when Buddy/Dixon/Hawkins are leading or going for a ball and a mid misses them they either gives the mid a spray or gives them daggers. Mitch, Todd and Jezza all don’t have any emotions.

Get some grunt in you boys

He really hangs his hat on the stats doesn’t he? Is he yet to realise that Football is too chaotic of a sport to be so 1 dimensional in your approach to a match? over reliance on the plan without any awareness of the fact that sometimes you just have to switch it up a bit and let the players play their natural game has been part of why we’ve crumbled so many times in the big games in recent years, He’s suffocating our squad! He needs to free up our players a bit and let their natural football instincts kick in at times
Freak players like chad, Robbie and Schultz winning games off their own boot has been what has got him this far. Letting them off the lead is fine when things are going your way.
The problem is we don't and never have had any reproducible structure for players to go back to. Every time a player takes a mark they need to stop and scan downfield looking for options while the opposition just sit one player 35m away to fill the obvious space. The next movement should already be planned with players downfield moving to the correct spaces and a reflex kick going to their advantage. Instead we end up kicking long down the line to a contest and hope

How many times do we lace out kick it to an unopposed defender inside our 50 because players don't know where to kick and forwards don't know where to lead

Here's some home truths about some of our players. Don't care if I sound harsh. They're professional athletes getting paid six figure salaries to perform. Deal with it.

Marshall is a liability. He's not good enough and will never be good enough. He's weak in the contest. He has poor touch. He doesn't provide anything in the air or on the ground, offensively or defensively. If he were playing for the Crows we'd all be laughing at him. I get that he's had a hard time personally. Give him an off field role a the club, I'm sure he could provide some value somewhere. His value isn't on the field.

Skinner is possibly the worst player I've ever seen play for the club. That's not an exaggeration. He is sloth like and is not capable of playing even one serviceable game of AFL. Full stop.

Finlayson is a terrible addition to the team. Can't mark anything and refuses to compete at ground level or in the air. His only weapon is that he can snap a goal if given space to do so. He'll never get that space at Port so it's a useless skill. His set shot kicking is diabolical like everyone else.

Rozee is a poor footballer. He isn't good at anything except running around in circles looking like he's going to do something and then just handballing backwards to a teammate. He's soft, his touch is poor, his bodywork is terrible. He just plain sucks. People just think he might be good because he's good looking and went at pick 5. He's not good and won't be.

Jonas is cooked. Should never have taken on the captaincy given his form last year and what that reasonably could have been expected to translate into this year. A selfish decision.

Unfortunately they're not. We've seen this movie before. Statistically dominant games with no score on the board is a constant theme of 2015 to 2019 Hinkley.

We moved past it for 2 years, lost Schofield & Voss, and now it's back.

Longmire was a premiership coach. Hinkley is a 2x coaches association coach of the year that has never won a prelim.

10 years, 5 finals appearances, with this team. Enough is enough.

Can’t argue with any of that but you let about 10 other guys off the hook.

That would involve them actually making an effort. To provide leads and offer up information. They're all just standing around waiting for Charlie to do the hard work with the bomb into 50.

I feel like a St Kilda fan post 2010.

Knowing that we blew our premiership window and that a cliff is fast approaching.

This is exactly it. This is why you have to take your opportunities when they present themselves. Because the window of opportunity comes and then it goes. And if you don't take your chance when it's there, all you're left with is haunting memories of two Kane Lambert goals in the pouring rain to sink your battleship.

Longmire got you a premiership lmao.

The similarities start and end with they both have X and Y chromosomes.

Since 2010 only 3 sides have made finals after starting 0-2.

2022 over already. Bloody weird feeling.

3 teams made finals last year after starting 0-2 - Brisbane, GWS, Essendon. Granted, both GWS and Essendon made it in with 11 wins.

I think the stat is that 1 in 8 teams that have started 0-2 have made finals under the current final 8 system.

Honestly, it felt like 2011-2012. My main positive emotions were when Jones and Powell-Pepper were doing their thing. Not because their thing is actually much good, just because they look like they're trying and visibly care about the game. That's where we're at. It's depressing.

A fair analysis, but maybe a bit harsh on Jonas. He might be untidy at times, but unlike the others, you can never knock his effort or willingness in the contest.
