Key forwards and half backs are low on our list of needs at the draft.

King 204cm
Sharman 193cm
Caminiti 196cm
Owens 191cm
Keeler 198cm

Plus Marshall 201cm, Wood 192cm, Phillipou 190cm rotating through. Training wheels should be taken off Max Heath 204cm who will likely play some games as forward/ruck.

Half backs

Sinclair
NWM
Stocker
Webster
Shoenmaker
Hastie
McLennan
O'Connell

We desperately need elite mids. Smillie and Reid will do nicely if the FOS/Lalor/Smith/Draper/Langford are gone. Maybe we split pick 8 into two later first rounders and take a tall with one of those, but there's no way we come out of the first round without a mid.
Travaglia should have a career trajectory similar to that of Hayden Young, start off as a halfback and eventually move into the midfield.

Just my personal opinion, but I’d rate Travaglia and Xavier Lindsay as next best players after the top 6 players.

They won’t be inside mids from the beginning of their careers, but four or five years in, and they’ll be class players ready to play midfield, and probably better than Smillie, Bo Allan and other mids outside the top end of this draft.

I would be open to having a def/mid like Toby with the second pick, if we were to grab a mid like Smillie (or better if available) with the first pick.
Elite ball users are needed more than talls of any sort.
No point having a good forward line when our midfield can’t get the ball in there probably. That is our single biggest weakness. Quality F50 entry.
Also, Sinclair is a AA half back. Let him play his best position.
Elite ball users, Travaglia and Lindsay.

Saints have a fear of that sort of talk, after drafting Coffield and Clark who were supposed to have the same trajectory with the same picks.
We just want milk that tastes like real milk.

With our history of picking up excellent KPDs late, I would be very surprised (and a bit disappointed) if we took one with our first. Also don't think we really need to spend our second on a KPF with Jack Williams and Archer Reid developing well.

But I should stop trying to predict what this club will do around the trade and draft periods! Cheers for your work mate.

Likely my Faull pick, or the concept behind it is wrong, still think you need to invest in key backs in this draft at some point and Trainor is a decent need versus best available in a lot of scenarios. You should take Murphy Reid if he gets to you though. Hotton would be a good pick but can you be patient.

The one thing that is underlooked sometimes too is that players are also assets and there is usually a market for promising talls from others clubs.

Great read and well thought out.

I am interested in the Winder selection however, I rated him when we drafted him but it never worked. Any mail there or just who you think would be a good pick?

Personally think the Eagles getting Trainor at that pick would be a great get.

Yeah, there is some buzz Winder is interesting Tigers. That was a month ago and a lot has changed

Good stuff GoodoilBartul

You have Carlton selecting B Camporeale at their second pick. Is that to match a bid?

Assuming he’s not bid on by their second pick, who do you think Carlton would select at the pick?
You've picked up an error with my draft, Camporeale should have been matched before Port's bid in the draft. If I was picking for Carlton and they still had that pick 38 to play with, I would draft Jay Polkinghorne from Norwood. He has next to no love from anyone apart from me due to missing the national championships with injury but I think he'd be a good pick as an understudy key forward. Other than that if Noah Mraz lasted that long (doubtful) he'd be a good fit I think/maybe a trade up option. Wouldn't shock if you tried to trade into the 20s.

Great to see EF ruckman Blakiston in the mix for a late pick at St Kilda, great story of persistence and perseverance. Out if interest why Blakiston instead of Cl Oliver Eastland? Similar age to Blakiston and athletic attributes, Eastland had been The WAFL's premier ruck for the last few years, what's the knock on him?
