Campbell has been named as medi sub, not sure what the Logan sub chat is about?

The medi-sub isn't named till Gameday

He's been omitted from last weeks 23 at this stage, as has Logan

Think he will take Franklin
The thought on radio was exactly this. I think Franklin plays last weeks role, particularly w McLean as the defence will be drawn to Franklin even more now. McLean has an opportunity to start fast .

Why liquid gold?

Because the intensity in grand finals you'd generally expect to be higher and you need to be able to think quickly and get the ball to teammates advantage under pressure. Those kinds of one percenters become pretty crucial.

Shattered for McDonald. Bad move imo. Even not in form atleast McDonald can push up and take a few grabs and is clean at ground level. McLean is only half decent 20 metres out with the ball put on his head. And when he pushes up he's always 10 metres behind his direct opponent and has no idea how to spoil. This is going to take a huge dump on our biggest asset, a nimble forward line. He's going to be obsolete everytime the ball isn't kicked directly to him.

Only consolation is that he played in our big win v them. I'd get it if we picked amartey ahead of McDonald, he's atleast capable making a contest, moving up the ground, and decent below the knees.

If horse thinks McLean can go into the ruck and run with Stanley and blicavs he's got another thing coming. Hasn't played since round 8 and we're on a 10 game streak. Just doesn't make sense. I hope this isn't Longmire going into defence/down the line mode. We need to play our game not Geelong's. Hickey/McLean gives me Naismith/tippet vibes. Hope Reid is 100% now because dunno how we can stick to our game with 4 lumbering talls.

Mcdonald had

0 goals, 6 disposals, 0 tackles, 4 marks, 83% DE, 1 clanger, 1 SI.

Mclean 17 Pressure acts and Logan 8

Not the best games for either players
Yes, but we has had a winning run and I hate changing things. 1 game in month for McLean, last game was 20/08/2022.

I was once an assistant coach at a football club that dropped the captain for GF. He was a centre half forward who had ruled the competition he had played in for 10 years. He had not had impact in the last 3 games of the season and 2 finals games. We replaced him with a 21 year old key forward from our reserves who had played 2 senior games for the year and in the previous weeks reserves prelim kicked 5. The team we were playing against had lost only one game for the year against us coincidentally where the young Key forward played one of his 2 games. In that game he kicked 3 goals against the best key back in the comp. We went into the GF making one of the most gut wrenching decisions I have had the misfortune of being involved with. We won that GF as rank outsiders and that young CHF kicked 4 goals. Our winning margin ? One point. Sometimes life is tough especially when it can cause heartbreak but the end goal is the most important thing.
Great story Wolfy.

If McLean gets a touch in the first half it will be an upgrade on McDonald.

It’s a Grand Final, you can’t carry players in who aren’t holding their own. It was a tough call but fair enough. If this wasn’t a grand final would many care that he was omitted.

Last year McLean kicked 4 against Geelong. He may trouble them or at least make their defender more accountable than had we stuck with McDonald.

I am very positive about this change. McLean playing deep will attract 2 defenders if the ball comes in long and high. He will outbody and beat most of their youngrr defenders in the air.

Reid to float down now and then to take a grab. McLean to maybe provide s subtle block or take a defender away as a decoy. Buddy roaming higher playing a lead up role. Ditto Heeney, Hayward and a resting Parker. Hayward, Reid and Heeney to provide marking/ spoiling options between the arcs.

I am certain we will kick a number of front and centre goals. Put Heeney down for at least 2 snap goals. Maybe Hayward and Papley also. Half forwards must get on their bikes and support the talls when we go forward. If our defence holds up well I can see us kicking a winning score. Let them worry about us!

Sorry for Logan but a more contested mark is what we need. With Buddy higher we have plenty of mobility and lead up options. Have faith people!

Edit: Completely forgot about our x factor in the forward line. Come on down Errol!

Big tough guy? I've never seen anyone that big not realise how big they actually are. He has never crashed contests and it's what put him out of favour to begin with.

Just hoping he's kept within 20 metres of goal at all times and can atleast pluck a couple. That's the most I've come to expect off him. I'll take a shot of tequila everytime he gets a touch outside 50 as celebration. I'm desperately hoping he puts in the game of his life.
Disagree. McD did some chasing on wings sure - but it never really amounted much, didn't actually catch (m)any. His impact has been minimal though he is one for the future in the Reid type role if he can build upper body strength.
McLean can make an impact on this game. I trust the coaches will have him ready to do what's needed, and that's' contest the ball in the air like young McD wasn't able to yet. Bring it to ground. Maybe clunk a couple for goals. It makes their defenders accountable, and I think it helps us structure wise more than Mcleans stats will show too. Papley, Clarke and Hayward will be waiting at the spill of those contests.
