Welcome one and all to Sydney Derby XXI - but not as you know it - now in sunny 👑land

If our players already haven't got whiplash from the constant change in location :airplane::bus: and schedule then they're doing better than I
Gotta say I can't be more prouder of them how they've carried themselves in all of this.

Its a huge Derby for both teams with a lot riding on the line here. :gws: dropped a game they should have won against the :goldcoast: and are out of the 8, while the :sydney: need to consolidate their position and possibly challenge for a top 4 spot. :sydney: need to keep winning because our next 4 opponents are all vying for a spot in the 8 and are going to be coming at us full bore.

Team Changes:
Colin O'Riordan as medical sub is dropped from Sydney
Giants: Shane Mumford & Lachie Whitfield (injury), Lachie Ash (omitted) Bobby Hill (managed) Ins: Matt Flynn, Stephen Coniglio, Xavier O'Halloran

I'm expecting the :gws: to come out and play like their season depends on it, cause it pretty much does. Coniglio returns after a very strong game in the VFL and Hopper had something like 41 possessions last week. Their midfield bats deep, so we have to play smart. We have to play four quarters because I'm still freaking traumatised by this season's earlier loss where we led the entire game and lost in the last minute!!!! Toby Greene🦹‍♂️ can get stuffed. Even when he plays shite they still somehow managed to win against us and those type of luxuries don't come often.

We need to play to our strengths, keep the :smallfooty: in our hands & out theirs. Control the game and like I said, be smart about how we use the ball because turnovers killed us in that final quarter and I'm not even going to start on what that massacre in the middle looked like. Last week against the :bulldogs: we moved it well, I'm expecting GWS to try and disrupt our centering of the ball and try to keep us out wide, we've just got to be patient, we almost had them last time but dropped our concentration. Would be great if Heeney, Paps & Buddy get amongst the goals because nothing works better than scoreboard pressure. I don't mean to state the bleeding obvious here lads, but this is personal. Okay? The trick to playing finals footy is playing your best week in week out when the pressure is on, the giants are certainly going to be playing like it, if we give them a sniff. So don't.:sneaky:

Hopefully the umps will keep an eye on Buddy getting mauled and this will be the miracle day they decide to do something about it. Wicks needs a better game that his last two weeks, felt he was a little selfish against the :bulldogs: but maybe that was just me. Special shout out to my defender boys down back who were brilliant last week and are going to have to on their marks this week. With luck it won't be down there very often

Milestones: Nick Blakey 50 games🎉:partypooper:

Here's hoping we'll be wearing the Heritage guernsey again as its an away match and we have to wear a clash guernsey.:largeredcircle::mwcirlce::largeredcircle::mwcirlce:

Hope we arrive at the stadium early and construct a chain link fence for Toby Greene. He really deserves a punch to the face but a well positioned fence may do the trick.

Biggest concerns for me are the Taranto/Hopper duo, Nick Haynes, and Toby Greene. If we can neutralise (if not beat) each of that lot, we win pretty easily. But if we let the big guys in Taranto and Hopper (plus Green) dominate around the ball, we'll be up against it given how good Greene is and the abilities of Himmelberg, Hogan and Finlayson up forward. GWS's midfield also includes Ward and a returning Coniglio so it's stacked with talent. But they're without their talisman in Mumford so Hickey should have a lot of confidence to be at his best against Matt Flynn. In defence, Haynes I'm sure will get the Hayward matchup and hopefully Hayward can take him away from the play as much as possible.

As other sides in the 8 appear to be amassing injuries, we are looking ok. Irrespective of the result today, if we can stay healthy, we have a legitimate shot at winning two finals and actually participating in a prelim, which none of us would have predicted at all. It’s actually awesome to sit back and enjoy the fact that we are pretty much ensconced in the top eight with five rounds to go! I seriously hope the govts and the AFL can find a way to complete this season…otherwise there will be a lot of fans reaching for the Prozac.

Effin great intro Ticky. Wish I knew half as much about footy as you.

This will never be a true derby because the giants simply don't have any fans and never will.
It's the Swans vs a corporate afl tv team. They should be named 'The West Sydney Corporate Advertisers'.

This will be a real tough game though. Hope we can win it and confirm finals.
