Toast "Hammer" Close to signing a new 3 year deal at the Blues!

My "excit-o-meter" didn't really move all that much, but hey if the club feels he deserves 3 years, well I trust the club.
It should move after Hampson showed similar faith in our progress as Walker, Simpson, Murphy, Kreuzer, Yarran, Garlett, Jamison and Gibbs. The fact it might be a three year deal suggests that other clubs were chasing Hampson's signature. Another reason for your excit-o-meter to move.

At the same stage in their careers, Hampson has probably held more overhead marks and shown more as a forward than Walker. ;)

If everything comes together for Hampson, that is an incredibly exciting prospect, and he showed some really good form (displayed footy nous and took grabs) prior to injury.

However, i think there is more to benefit from 2 quality ruckmen and filling a hole in another area than 3 quality ruckmen, hence i'm somewhat subdued

Certainly not terrible news. He needs to be developed into a key position forward I reckon.
Never will be, a real forward knows how to lead and learns how to play that position since 12. He has potential to play in the Ruck or as a Ruck Rover. The club should give away first pick and something and get a real key forward, no mucking about with Ruckmen types like Cameron Cloke, Ohailipin etc playing as one. Those players might have a good day up forward once every 6 games, never consistent.

Ideally he should be played as a resting ruckman out of the forward pocket when he's not in the ruck. if you look at who's on our list now its obvious that Hendo will be moved back forward once Watson and McCarthy develop. Then hopefully that leaves Mitchell at FF Hendo CHF plus a resting ruck in the pocket. For now though we'll have to be content with what we've got and hope like hell that Waite can get his body right.

And see some of O'hAilpin's recent form. You'd be surprised.

 What do you mean?

Hampson has always been "promising" and I won't get over excited for someone who is yet to really show full potential, he's only done this in glimpses. Next year for me, if he stays injury free, is his year, no more "making progress" for mine. Time to step up. :thumbsu:

People are talking of false hope, he never be another Koutoufides that laughable or this key forward. I think people always expect this, but seriously he be more then a handy player, that being more realistic.

I feel like I am reading a Tarzan script.
I struggled too.

Cool story - doubt it will happen. We'd have to organise a trade for Richmond (who are in the best position to secure him over St. Kilda) and they don't have anything around that mark that we want. Then Hampson would have to go to the PSD and definitely get picked up before Richmond get a chance.

Media translation: Hampson hasn't signed straight away, he must be considering options elsewhere and is definitely leaving.

Water, le duck, back.

Yep... it almost sounds like they are assuming without actually realising he only said he was close to signing a 3 year deal only a few days earlier...

But I guess to have SportsNewsFirst, you have to guess and pray your right... so then they can say "You heard it here first"

The reality is one of Kruz, Warnock or Hammer should be traded.

With the new bench rules at best we can play two, however given how poor each is as a forward I am almost of the opinion we go with just one ruckman like the pies do with Irish pinch hitting.

It would be crazy not to trade one.

My preference would be to trade warnock as he is just so physically weak.

Great opportunity for Carlton to deal and get a first round pick and something from St Kilda, then trade that 1st round to port? I hate to lose him but I can't see us playing 3 players over 200 cm. Hampson ideal position is Ruck around the ball where he can run, this is why clubs want him in front line ruck duties. He offers them good speed, can run all day and ruck.

I can personally feel the abuse from posters here, that will come at him if he is turned into a forward and fail, he be under a lot of pressure trying to learn playing forward.

Hampson for Rance & Cotchin.
Hampson for Goddard & Armitage.
