Petty is 10 years younger which has a gigantic impact on value and when your other KPFs are cooked or too young, Petty starts to look pretty close to prime Buddy Franklin to a list team.

I genuinely struggle to believe Adelaide actually thought Melbourne would do anything but immediately hang up the phone with that offer. I think it's so insane, there has to be murmurings among list managers of Melbourne being able to bring in Lynch or something
But he also has a serious injury. So what do you think his value is worth right now? 2 first rounders? 2 first rounders with one being a top 5 pick? 3 first rounders?

You see I don't think he is the difference. I think he's a handy footballer. Nothing special
You clearly watched at least one of their finals and you dont think a semi-competent KPF makes a difference?

The injury becomes irrelevant when offering the terms Adelaide are. They clearly dont think its an issue.

For his ability and age, I'd argue straight up pick 10 is about right. For Melbourne, it has to be pick 2 for Lachie Weller level of insanity to consider it

Yeah, nowhere near it, but that's how dire their KPF situation is.
Here's a list I've put together off the top of my head of key forwards who are better. And there were half a dozen others who I think are better but you could mount an argument either way:
Cameron
Curnow
Larkey
Tex
Lynch
Daniher
McKay
McStay
Miochek
Wright
Naughton
Allen
Max King
Ben King
Hogan
Lewis
Hawkins
Lobb
JUH

He's not a proven key forward. He might be good but nowhere near enough exposed form

I mean putting Lobb and not putting Amiss in there is basically spitting in my face but I dont disagree with you on his ability. I literally said his value compared to his peers is basically irrelevant, it his value to Melbourne that matters. When you have nothing, $5 is priceless

So you're just going to disregard that he's an AA calibre defender which is where Adelaide would be playing him

lol why would Dees trade him for 1 first rounder? We will get that from free agency compo anyway if he does leave at the time. But that would be after having his services for an additional 2 years. Hell, we might be shit in 2 years and get a top 3 pick from him as compo like McKay got North.

Absolutely makes no sense and Crows list managers should be smart enough to realise that.

Putting aside Petty's future credentials as a key forward, which I think are strong, Petty will be a multiple All Australian key defender at the Crows.

He's 197cm and still only 23 (plays next year as a 24 year old). He's a very very good key backman, who was very important in a premiership side at 21.

My choice is to keep him, but picks 10 and 14 would at least make me contemplate a deal. McAdam can be part of a separate trade.

Pick 10 and 14 lol.

$850-900K 6 years ago was worth more than today and Lever made the AA squad in a Grand Final year and didn't have a serious injury.
AA squad ? Big deal. Petty has shown far more versatility by kicking a bag (6) as a forward, as well as holding down CHB in a premiership team.

His injury isn't career threatening. He'll play round one.

Lever had already had an ACL when we recruited him.

Not to mention Petty has two years to run on a contract.

They're worth about the same, or Petty probably a bit more.

Pick 10 and 14. :thumbsu:

I would have thought that if you only have $5, you wouldn't gladly swap it for $6.

Hardly priceless

It's probably not going to happen. He's a reasonably promising tall who's had a dozen or so good games. He has a troubling foot injury and I don't think any side should trade for him until they've seen that he can come back. He's already said through management that he would want to return home to the Crows in the future, so it's silly to overspend on picks now.

Wrong to compare to Lever, who was an early pick who had already shown himself to be AA quality.

Don't offer him $850k then and don't pretend like he wants out. Dude is contracted and we want him around.

I get it's been a while for crows fans since they won a flag, but when you're competing you don't dilute your best team for draft picks at cost price. Makes no sense.

lol why do these Adelaide blokes keep talking about his foot injury when it’s Adelaide who are the ones chasing so hard.

Do you want him or not?

If you don’t like his foot injury then stop asking the question and offering a million bucks.

If you offer a million bucks then his foot is redundant in any conversation and he will cost comparable to that offer (2 firsts) at the trade table.

Let’s start a poll - Prime Wayne Carey or Harrison Petty?

Sorry forgot Amiss. I knew there was someone from Freo but couldn't think of his name. Yep he'd be in there as well no question. He kicked 40 goals this year? Perry has kicked 19 in his career
