Melbourne Football Club should do the right thing by Petty and let the kid return home to SA and be with his family.

Isnt that the Victorian playbook used on non-Vic Clubs who have Vic players?

I don’t mind trading him for 2 firsts and McAdams. Maybe our F2 going back.

That’s the going rate for a key position FB or FF under 25 who is contracted and being offered $1m a year.

lol you really think a player isn’t gonna perform to the best of there abilities 2 years out from free agency and coming into his prime?

Excuse Me Wow GIF by Mashable

Ben McKay has proven that there is no connection between output and contract offers.

So you think Petty is worth a top 10 pick?

He's a key position player who has demonstrated the ability to play both ends, he's also a contracted player with two years to go plus he plays in a position that we have a desperate need for.

So yes, in the current climate he is absolutely worth a top 10 pick to MElbourne because that is what we would need to go out and recruit someone to replace him.

Out of contract of the open market is a different story though, happy to do that in 2 years time.

His parents live in Wudinna, which is a 6 hour plus drive from Adelaide.

He has a Sister in Adelaide, but you don't move clubs for a Sister...

This years draft must be absolute junk if a pick in the teens is on offer for petty.
Petty is a very good footballer , interesting to see what transpires here , would love him at the Pies. A true Swingman. Might look unfashionable, but he is true footballer with a great skill set. Only risk for the Crows is his foot issue. If that has cleared up and nigh on fully mended. He will flourish

Chasing a contracted player and offering them $1m a year to turn around and try offer up a pick (18ish) after NGA is embarrassing. Especially since it has been categorically already rejected multiple times.
Lol - I wonder if his manager is saying to Melbourne...'look, the crows value Mr Petty at this and have put up a 1st round pick + player to try and trade for him and you are saying no, then if you want Mr Petty to stay beyond this contract, how about paying him close to what they are offering and he might sign a contract, otherwise.....'

This is called staged targeting of a player by a club with big cap space that is being aggressive..The crows might not get him this year but it looks like it might end up being the long game with him...and in the process damage Melbourne's cap and ability to retain others etc if they end up paying up.

Yeah man, that must've felt very clever. He's already contracted til 2025, so not sure when you reckon we'll be adding to that contract.

End of the day, if you offer him $1mil averaged out at $850k in two years as a free agent, we'll get a first round pick compo, so we may as well just hold onto him. Who knows, maybe we're pus by then and we'll get pick 3 out of it.

For sure..out of interest he signed that contract extension put to him recently didn't he?

Exactly and it has been reported as quite serious? So around pick 10 (equivalent to pick 14 and McAdam) is right, stupid of Melbourne not to take that offer.

I can’t fathom how you think they should take that offer. He has shown considerably more up forward than really any other KPF on their list this year and it’s their biggest area of weakness while in a premiership window. 14 and McAdam is insulting IMO.

I can’t believe Melbourne would be so insensitive. He just wants to come home to be with his family. Oh, and a bag of cash.

He kicked 12 goals, 6 in one game. 19 goals in total in his career.

I rate Petty as a prospect but he is being oversold by posters on here, and oversold by the salary offer too.

Seriously?

I rate Petty and keen for us to pursue him - but has 19 goals in his career. This year he kicked 12 goals - only 1 against a side in the top 10

Now I get he has mainly played back and he is very promising. But talk that he is the key to Melbournes hopes next year are ridiculous. He would definitely be helpful but as a forward hardly contributed to Melbourne making the top 4 this year

We are taking the risk with a potentially A grader who has a serious injury for just over $800K and you don't think an equivalent of pick 10 is overs for him lol.

If he played against the Pies we would have one that game. You don't measure his performance necessarily by numbers but he how makes our forward and defensive lines more settled.

If we traded him now we don't win the flag next year unless we get someone like Fogarty, Harry McKay or Max King in return.
