We won a lot of big games to get to those Grand Finals - what a great ride my club regularly gives me.

15 million Australians haven't seen Carlton make it that far in their lifetimes.

Oh well. Maybe one day.
Never understand why battling Bagger fans attempt to use the Pies losing GFs as if it is a bad thing.

To make a GF means you have seen your team have strong H&A seasons, then play and win QF, SF and PFs.

If your team makes a GF you have had a ****ing great year as a supporter.

But yeah, the Carlton morons would rather finish 13th and get an individual award or two.

I think you'll be surprised if you go back through the thread and work out which supporter base has referenced individual awards most often.

I'll give you a clue.... the team doesn't rhyme with 'Collingwood'.
And yet every time a player comparison comes up it's the Pies fans clutching at individual awards to justify their position

That would be 15 million Australians who have something good look forward to then - good point!

fancy being conned into thinking your Club is a con tender - only to realise an ump gifted flag was just that - followed up by a pathetic and embarrassing capitualtion to not even make finals the following year..

what a bunch of pre tenders - not con tenders your mob of dirty birds are..

also stop with the use of words like 'moron' - they are not fit for polite discourse on BF good thing for you I'm not a button masher like most of your dirty bird fellow posters are and boiy do they have 'form' when they run out of the usual repetitive and drivel.

2024 Pies didnt contend, shit happens

We actually do regularly contend for premierships, unlike Carlton.

Carlton rebuild for 10 years to never even make top4!!

How long will the next rebuild be and do you see Carlton having it's first top4 finish of the 21st century before 2030?

'Pre tenders'.... who won a flag 13 months ago....

If a club is a 'Pre Tender' if they 'con tend' but fail to win the flag, what does that make Carlton, given they do neither?

Are they just a 'chicken tender', feasted on by the real teams in the competition, who are regularly there when the whips are cracking?

Less than 0.2% probability that a team fails to make top 4 in 24 consecutive seasons in the current era of equalisation.

If anyone can be mediocre enough to do the highly improbable in terms of being completely shizenhouse, it's Carlton...

But yeah, Pie morons closer to 13th than Carlton in 2024

Still waiting on the "analysis" of how we would bridge the 5 game gap from 2022 to 2024? Hilarious

Millions have seen Carlton win 8 flags to 3

Oh well, maybe one day you will bridge the gap

Poor old Carlton, as soon as the country zone and $$ taken away, they are shown up as being worse than StKilda.

But at least their fans will always have 2024, the year where they lost both games to the Pies, but finished higher on the ladder than Collingwood due to a soft fixture. What a time to be a Bagger.

Every year, people get seduced by Carlton's top.6 players and say 'Their list is stacked, they want for nothing'. Think Sam McClure leading into the 2024 season.

But then those who take a close look at their list see that it falls away very, very quickly, and they have fundamental shortcomings that mean they will always fall short of genuinely contending for premierships - high quality small forwards, elite ball users rotating through the middle of the ground, and general depth of high quality players. They have also historically retained far too many injury prone players on their list, though this has improved somewhat over the off season with the delistings of Martin, Cuningham and Marchbank.

Rank the top 30 players combined from Carlton's list, with any list of a team that has genuinely contended for premierships in recent times, and you won't get any more than a dozen Carlton players in that list of 30. Brisbane, Sydney, GWS, Collingwood - the result will always be the same - the Carlton list simply does not bat deep enough.

And they have gone backwards over the off season, whilst other teams gearing up for a premiership tilt have improved their lists.

Teams that are already superior to Carlton based on recent performances:
Brisbane
Sydney
GWS
Port Adelaide
Collingwood
Western Bulldogs
Geelong
Hawthorn

Teams that are on the up and will go past Carlton this year and next:
Fremantle
Gold Coast

Carlton will need a few things to go wrong for multiple of the above teams, and a lot to go right for them, just to sneak into the top 8, whilst also hoping that the other teams around them fail to improve (and we know there will indeed be a team or two amongst Adelaide, St. Kilda, Essendon, etc. who may surprise in any given year).

Voted no but it's actually yes. They've peaked and a top 8 finish is the best they can do. They need a top 4 finish with a shot at the flag though but there's not much evidence to show they can reach top 4.
Yep.

They simply don't have the list depth to be consistently good enough during the home and away season to win enough games to finish top 4.

According to champion data they had basically the same number of injuries to best 23 players as Brisbane. Their issue is depth and the concentration of their talent.
10 games in total missed by their top 5 players - Cripps, Weitering, Curnow McKay and Walsh.

6 games missed by their 6th best player - De Koning - and we saw how badly they fell away when he was out of the side.

Oh hey Fadge.
Fancy meeting you in a thread like this.

Voss is not getting enough attention. He has so far failed to establish a Carlton brand of football or a game plan with any sort of nuance.
He also has the whole playing below the sum of the parts. Not looking likely to become a premiership coach.

You can't win a premiership in today's modern era without 1 or 2 elite small-medium forwards and Carlton have none.

Until they get lucky finding someone, they ain't winning anything soon with that big dopey giraffe and Curnow who goes missing in September.
Yep. Somehow Carlton still haven't got the memo that good small forwards are crucial in today's game.

Here we go another Carlton thread with some of the usual suspects.

Jury's still out on Voss for me.

It all starts with the list, and if you don't have the players at your disposal, it doesn't matter how good the coach is.
