Pains me to say it, but Geelong are a big chance for the flag this year. Older yes, but very experienced and likely able to turn it up when the intensity lifts for finals and control the game. I would tip them over a lot of sides who they might face and who lack the experience in that atmosphere. You also have Sydney who aren't exactly hitting form at the right time.

I do think though it's pretty wide open though and the top 4 will all be a big chance. Port are going really well and are a bit under the radar.

Anyway, if Geelong do go all the way, then yes they are probably too powerful.
Nah that Geelong midfield isn't winning any flags.

Unlucky for Geelong tonight. Their more experienced players looked at bit slow, also the width of Marvel perplexed them.

Touche.

I actually thought watching the game that tonight our younger players looked slow. Humphries and Dempsey aside, who were generally excellent, a lot of the other guys were often left behind and caught metres behind their opponent.

The too old too slow part will always be a bit of a myth when Dangerfield is still our most explosive midfielder, Blicavs is, for a tall, an amazing runner, Cameron is a freak athlete as well, Rohan is as fast as anyone going around, and Stanley is a very fast runner for a ruckman as well. Aside from Duncan they’re our oldest players but they’re all quick, or quick for their role.

But as a team yes I agree we did look slow

Our best games this year have been on MCG, we’ve actually struggled a lot of games with narrow grounds…like our home ground lol

People forget Cats just played a brutal game in Perth a weekend ago.
It was always gonna be tough against Saints who have beaten us 3 in a row at Marvel now too.

That says a lot more about the state of your club than it does about Dangerfield.

Geelong will get smashed in finals.

For a side that’s rebuilding, doesn’t that say more about everyone else than it does for Geelong?
Since when do rebuilding sides have half their team consist of 30+ year olds? And critically depend on a 34 year old to carry the midfield?

Rebuilding teams tend not to spend first round picks on questionable prospects like Bailey Smith too, which by all reports is exactly what your club will be doing in the off-season. I guess Hawthorn liked to claim they were performing some sort of rebuild when they traded in Mitchell and O'Meara, but look at how that turned out.

You do realise that most of the older blokes don’t play key roles anymore?
Half of them don’t get a game.

Stanley is only playing because SDK is hurt. He’s done end of season and wasn’t playing for a fair stretch when Sam was available and Conway didn’t break his foot…we have no other option.

Hawkins is done, Cam Guthrie is basically done and hasn’t played all year again, Duncan played as the sub, 2E is in and out of the side, Rohan hasn’t played half the year.
Dangerfield, Blics and Cameron are heading for the end.

Of the guys I listed, 5 of them played, one of those 5 was the sub.

So who are the other 18 players on the field?
Why do you think there’s soo many young guys in the team?
There is a huge glut of 24 and under kids. Glut of 30+ on the way out.
About to be multiple retirements incoming. This is Year 1 of that transition.

Since when does 7/23 constitute 50 per cent.

I guess we liked to claim we were rebuilding when we rotated out the 07-11 flag players. Look where that got us. Stuck in the finals for another 13 years with half a dozen prelims, two grand finals and another flag without ever having to be shit. What would our staff know about the whole idea.

We should just hire you and be done with it.

Might wanna start increasing the % my man 🤭
20% next week to lock in top 4 then.

Any plans to celebrate the spoon coming home while we gear up for yet another finals series? Do they actually award a real wooden spoon or is that just a moniker? Keep us posted!

Off the top of my head. Stewart, Atkins Touhey, Kolo, Rohan. Maybe more

The vast majority of Geelong's wins this year have been driven by one or more of Dangerfield, Cameron, Stewart.
Hawkins had a big game against Adelaide early in the year. Stanley had a big game against the Bulldogs in Adelaide, then beat Luke Jackson last week, which was probably the difference between winning and losing against Fremantle.
Even if you want to say players like Blicavs or Tuohy aren't important players anymore, they have still provided value in a lot of Geelong's wins, particularly against less experienced/mentally weak sides. Take out the experienced players and you almost certainly lose most of your close games this year (of which there have been quite a few)

Just because you have young players does not mean you have quality young players.
For two years now Geelong fans have been carrying on about Oliver Henry being some kind of amazing find and guaranteed superstar. Seems like the tune has changed quite a bit. I guess it's not so easy for a soft medium-sized forward to thrive when Hawkins isn't playing.

This is Hawthorn 2018 all over again. Overhyping your young players, and not understanding just how far off your youth is from the competition for the next 5 years. Now is literally the worst time for Geelong to trade in a player like Bailey Smith, but Scotty can't help himself with the topups.
