Firstly, the "No Kane Cornes" Rule is back

Grundy is a bit of a concern for me. Sure Ben retires and it makes sense a replacement is needed for 2023. But Reeves looks like he could become a quality ruck next year given his development progression and age ….. approaching that sweetsop. And then there’s Ramsden. He could be anything and I don’t think he will be one of those young lumbering Giraffe types that needs years to develop. He is athletic, big tank and pretty good below the knees. If Reeves and Ramsden both make it and we acquired Grundy …….. can’t play them all. Just wish we could get to watch Reeves and Ramsden for another season before committing to Grundy given the length of his contract and the money involved. Do we need to rush into a Grundy decision given where we are at as a club? Could be better at this stage just to get another depth ruckman and show faith in the ones we already have.

Why do the Hawks want Grundy?

Reeves is our ruckman. And any other ruck simply delays his development.
I don't necessarily think Grundy is the best choice for us, but a 211cm bloke in the forward line isn't going to get outmarked too often. It gives us a "drop on head" option if nothing is opening up through the middle.

  1. If Reeves is standing in the forward line he is not learning how to play ruck.
  2. Grundy is contracted on huge money until 2027. Hawks can afford a salary dump this year, and maybe next, but if the Hawks can still afford that in 24/25/26/27 then we are not making progress.
Grundy is Collingwood's problem. They are the dickheads that overpaid him. You can get two Bruest's/Hardwick's/Sicily's for the cost of one Grundy. Collingwood can GAGF.

We need 2 ruckman. We have always had a ruck and Ruck forward in our successful years. We don’t always need to play both but we need injury insurance and flexibility. I really like Meek from Freo, he’s a country boy and only held back due to Darcy being so good. He’s been on the system the 5 or so years and been developed training against Darcy day in day out. I say trade JOM to Freo (Mundy replacement) for Meek and freo third rounder. = 40 ish

Who do you think would be interested? Freo, Brisbane and obviously gold coast? Do either offer the leadership, standard setting and on field coaching that Clarko may desire at North?

I think there is a consensus that Tom wouldn't be rushing to play under Clarko again.

Wondering if gunston and our third would be enough to get the mcstay compo? Brisbane get an upgrade on mcstay for a couple of years while they’re still in the window, proven big game/finals player, something they’ve been severely lacking
Any recent comments on Burtmans scenario. I like it, what the comp value likely to be? End first round?

Ruckman are cheap. You do not pay $1m a year for them. Gawn is the only ruckman since Simon Madden worth close to that. And Melbourne will lose Jackson because they cannot afford to keep him.

Yup - but I would happily cop a 4th rounder for him that has bugger all points value than nothing at all.
We could do better.
Gunston and future 3rd
For
Future 2nd

Pick upgrade for us next year. Keeps their mcstay compo this year in tact.

Poor man’s version of Jack Viney. Having said that I would take him in a heartbeat for the right price. If Dunkley goes it probably gives him more opportunity and incentive to stay at the dogs

He plays a lot like Toby Greene … he impressed me when he played against us earlier in the year , his hands stood out how clean he was.

Why do the Hawks want Grundy?
It’s simple.
Our most experienced ruckman just retired, Reeves needs support, we have a heap of cap space, and the best experienced ruck available will get traded cheaply without the need for us to pay his full salary.
