Thanks for your service Jack , is and always be a Hawthorn champ.
A few years ago a fair chunk of this board were complaining about lack young players getting opportunity and the like .

Well that reality and want is here now. Im excited by it as much as losing Jack stings .
What opportunity for Kosi , Butler, Serong etc
They should be champing at the but to hit pre season .
I fear we are in danger of being the 2010 ish Demons who cut way to deep and had no senior experience.

I know. Or North Melbourne, who retired or traded every over 30 in sight except for Goldstein and are now paying for it

Hawthorn’s list management since 2016 has been very poor at best. We haven’t shown enough respect to our premiership champions. We’ve let champions of the club leave in Mitchell, Lewis, Hodge, Birchall, Smith and now Gunston who still all had some good footy left in them. Yes I know it’s important to turn over your list but you don’t just let champions walk to other clubs. We’ve not only let good players walk out the door, we’ve given up leaders that can help develop and shape our future. Geelong’s success should teach us that sometimes we are too quick to cut the chord on a players based on their DOB.

We've shown too much respect to our champions if anything.

Birchall extended his career while his replacement Scrimshaw got valuable games in.

Sam got to learn from a different club which fast tracked him to be our current coach.

Lewis secured a 3 year deal with the dees when it was clear he had nomore then a year left.

in this instance given we have so much cap space and so little experience pay well $$ and work harder to keep him a one club player
Love Gunners but I’d rather see Lewis (24yo), Kozi (22yo) and Jeka (21yo) play 22 games together as triple threat forwards next year, win lose or draw.

They’re all capable of kicking 30 plus goals each for the season. We’ve got some classy goal-kickers at their feet. A mix of Breust, Wingard, Brocky, Moore, Butler.

The best forward option potential we have on our list in the short term, we don't have much else, Kosi, Serong won't do much next year, ramsden hopefully rises but right now we have slim pickings in replacing gunston or having somebody partner Lewis

We just won 8 games this year unlike North who won two.

The players that are on the way out were not massive reasons for our success. Mcevoy only played the 8 games, Mitchell is being pushed out & although Gunston will be missed his big games were against the bottom sides.

Our improvement and growth isn't going to come from those players it's gonna be from the development of McDonald, Ward, Butler, Day etc.

Apparently yes.

Also, why are we taking Pick 6 in the draft if we’re just going to have McEvoy retire?

We only lost McEvoy (33) Gunston (31) Mitchell (30)

Ages next year ~ Breust(32), Wingard(30), O'merea(29), Frost (29), Sicily(28), Impey(28), Amon(28).

10 players that are 28+ is too many, 6-7 is a good number.

I hate saying this about guys who give everything week in week out but if frost is even in our best 25 selection then we're not doing this right. He had a few good games early last season but was absolutely opened up after that. Rather see how Blanck and Jeka go down back for a good period of time before we rest our KPD hopes on frosty. Maybe as third tall down back where he's looked more comfortable but again, rather see dgb get heap of games into him to fast track his development.

getting in Amon to lose Gunston defies logic

we delisted or retired 6 experienced players and will trade one out (Tom)

gUNSTON needed to be retained even on a 3 year deal on good $$

our list management post 2016 garbage (flag players allowed to walk for no return + the recruitment of multiple failures eg Vickery Patton etc) whereas Geelong s excellent (Cameron danger smith etc ) hence top 4 every year for them

Poor
You do understand that it's Gunston's decision to leave right? The club offered him a deal. He turned it down and chose to join Brisbane as a Free Agent. There's nothing the club can do.

Feels like a genuine melt down 😂

Just an FYI but the kids are alright, we have some genuine talent on the list that will only thrive with more game time. Gunston is an absolute champion of our club but he will not be the difference in winning a flag next year or the year after…

I am not concerned with the ever growing wave of hawthorn champions at other clubs (other then hodge) as it will reap huge rewards for the next 50 years.

Let’s hope we can sway Bowed and GC but if not draft well, trade well and let the club go to work on developing some stars.

RAMSDEN is coming.

That's an awful lot of leadership we've lost. The ones left don't have that much leadership (maybe bar O'Meara).

Frost will be better suited as the 2nd or 3rd tall and also on the Fritsch type medium talls. We got Blanck for a reason. Wouldn't be surprised we give him a weights program to bulk up and get stronger because that's what we need him to be for the role he will play. Let Frost and Sicily handle the more athletic talls and the structure down there will look better.

Interesting case is Frosty. 100% earned his contract extension. Blanck needs a couple more pre-seasons and 30-40 games and DGB the same. Hopefully we give them that. Frost will provide good back up.

Honestly thought he wasn't half bad as a forward. Was at least fun to watch.

Was like a massive version of Poppy.

Hardwick - Blanck - Impey
Scrimshaw - DGB - Sicily

Reeves - Newcombe - JOM
Amon - Moore - Ward

Wingard - Serong - Day
Butler - Lewis - Breust

MacDonald, CJ, Finn, Lynch

+ Worpel, Brockman, Morris, Jeka, Nash, Morrison and Frost waiting in the wings, along with whoever we draft.
