So the future second either belongs to North Melbourne, Bulldogs or Brisbane. It hasn't been clarified yet.

If it's NM we win the trade. 3xtop 25 picks in a reportedly strong draft.
If it's Bulldogs we probably broke even. Could be good if they choke.
If it's Brisbane we lose the trade. Firmly in Premiership window, late 30s pick.

Stephens has what 12 games since being drafted in 2019?

Shafted.

Covid meant he didn't get a chance to play much VFL early on, and he was drafted injured.

Showed real poise and power in his games this year, debut against the Giants was very good. I felt the was primed to hit it hard next season.

You may have plucked one here, really disappointed to lose him to be honest. Hope he's a star for you.

WE WERE PLAYING s**t MIDFIELD FOOTBALL WHEN WE RELIED ON THEM IN THERE!!!!!

We're trying something different.

We weren't that bad.
At least we finished 13th with them in the team and 8 wins.
Mitchell 5th and JOM 7th in B&F.
Overall, the team showed a lot of promising signs with a good blend of youth and experience.
Next year is not going to be pretty.

Keep 41, so that when it pulls into 35 on draft night we can pick Munkara, and they can't match.

That is something that I hadn't thought of. All these picks will be late 30s after one pick in the draft.

You teach players to win by winning. You do not want to create a culture where performance doesn’t matter and playing your best players out of position and then trading them out for deals that don’t improve our draft hand (not this year anyway) doesn’t offset the loss of players that perform and set standards. This is not how we built our list ahead of 2008.

Players that are 26 or older:
Scis
Impey
Frost
Breust
Chad

3 are guaranteed best 22. That is the profile of a wooden spooner.

Well, it seems pretty obvious we need to find another way to rebuild because we don't seem to be able to much during trade period. It all becomes a bit meaningless just going around and then unloading your best players during trade period for next to nothing.

I actually think our midfield will be much better next year: Jager and Tommy unfortunately turned the ball over many times and Jager constantly caught with the ball.
I look forward to footy smart clean ball users getting in there: Day Ward Amon CMac Moore are class smart players. Stephens won’t be half bad , being a first rounder from Geelong with good size and some preseasons already done. Plus our pick 6 and Worpel. We got a lot to work with

It keeps getting lost in here but do people realise that pick 41 will become a 2nd rounder once the father-son bids come?
Rationality with some in here went out the window a very long time ago.

On one hand, I feel it’s a positive that we’ve finally committed to a full rebuild based on starting out as young as possible.

That said, I think we’ve been rinsed in trade value this offseason unless Stephens and Meek turn out to be a lot better than they look.

Just hoping that Mitch has the backing from the club to see out the next 2 years at least, because we are going to struggle.

I think the future 2nd pick is Fremantles, hope I'm wrong

They traded their future 2nd for Jackson.
They have North Melbourne's future second for Logue. They also have an unspecified future seconds (either Brisbane or Bulldogs) from the Dogs for Lobb. Dogs received a future second from Brisbane for Dunkley.

Last year MM said our plan was to take 3-4 picks inside 30 to the next three drafts. He had an extra second rounder in the 20's last year thanks to Wrighty's deal with the Pies the year before. At this stage it looks like he won't achieve that goal for 2022, I don't see how this can be seen as anything other than a failure

Spot on mate.

You can draft players, you can trade in players or you can lure free agents. Probably rule out the Free agents for the short term and we will struggle to address key list deficiencies through trade unless we show a bit on the field next year. Let’s hope the players we landed both add something to our best 22 and we can land some good kids this year and next.
