Firstly, the "No Kane Cornes" Rule is back

A lot of melts in this thread.

I, for one, am happy with our work this trade period.

Got rid of two aging midfielders who won't be apart of out next flag for Cooper Stephens (first round pick), pick 41 (which will become around pick 35 after the father-son selections), a well-regarded ruckman about to hit his prime and a future 2nd tied to the Bulldogs (TBC) in a strong draft year.

I'm my opinion that is good all things considered.

I’m reading some doom and gloom here but truth is I like that we’ve just gone for a reset. I’d preferred to have kept Gunners but is what it is.

How many games over the last 6 years have we all gone nuts at how crap our midfield had been. Worst kid in the league my far. This year we were marginally better but at least it was Newc, Ward, Moore that pushed it.

Honestly felt Mitch and JOM would take us nowhere and better reset it and see next year what Stephens, Newc, CMAC, Wingard, Moore, Amon Worps can do. But at least most of those guys are young where they can improve. And I’d rather us over the next 2 years develop our young mids to build a core ready to challenge.

Only gripe is I reakn our FA comp might have been better for Titch than what we got but truth is if he was going to be phased out of our midfield then maybe not after 2023.

One year to run at Hawthorn....he was going home after next year.

Why do people think we are going to get the farm for him ????

He would be leaving after next year?
O'Meara 99 games and Howe 96 games. We can only hope any sons they have are terrible footballers, unlike Anderson and Allen.
Problem is that now that GWS have pick one they are apparently unlikely to bid on Ashcroft which saves the Lions about 500 points
And gets their pick $10,000. Why would you gift that money to a player from another club, just so that you could do that club out of 500 points?

We've improved it.

Not to where we want or needed, so hopefully we are packaging the picks up to move up the order with someone. Surely we can't use all the picks anyway?

If we don't move up it's a disaster IMO. I suppose we have put ourselves in a position to at least.

It's going to be a long wait to draft day.

Collingwood gave Mitchell 3 years and Freo gave JOM 4 years.

I'd expect them to have at least that much good footy left in them and they were both pretty good this year.

These are top tier players we gave away for untried WAFL, VFL players and peanuts.

WE WERE PLAYING SHIT MIDFIELD FOOTBALL WHEN WE RELIED ON THEM IN THERE!!!!!

We're trying something different.

So many posters were ok with Tom leaving because he's not the sort of mid that we need with the style we play under Sam and yet we expected to get a former first round player in AND a top 25 pick for him? That would've been great, but it's pretty clear we've overrated Tom here.

Jaeger for Meek and future 2nd, that's good value in my book for a 29yr old, particularly when Freo wanted a 2nd rounder for Meek alone.

Pick 41 will pull into Pick 35 on draft night after matching, and we're still holding Picks 6 and 24. It's not really melt worthy.

Another way to look at it is that both clubs see themselves in the premiership window and have given both players contracts of 3 and 4 years. That says the equation is missing the equals sign. Even if we know what the club is doing it makes no sense. Both are proven top tier players.

Talk about delusional, you left out the fact we gained two young player types of need who could be anything plus a future second rounder in an extremely highly rated draft. Never let the facts get in the way of a good story pal.
You can pick up young players in the draft as well... Probably much better ones with picks in the 20s and teens but let's not worry about that right? .. If you're seriously happy with the trade results then no point arguing.. I thought people would see the obvious but it's fine.. I know Mitchell will not survive this pathetic attempt at a rebuild.. He is terrible and so is MM... But you lot keep dreaming on.. Good luck with that!

Omeara for Meek and second rounder is a great deal. Omeara has been a flop for us and happy to see him go. We've had the worst midfield for years and it was time to shake things up. 2 out of Mitchell, Omeara and Worpel needed to go.

Now it's time for Worpel to lift!
Yeah Worpell has the talent and age on his side. He really needs to step up and becoming a week in week out midfielder next season. We really are a blank canvas now. The challenge will be to identify leaders within the group that we can start setting the standard around. I really hope they focus on that with the drafting.

Hoping Stephens turns into our Will Brodie.

I will say though, don't get too excited by his 7 career games. Two were as an unused medical substitute.

41, 50 and 52 for Essendons 22?

They will need points for Davey bid
Keep 41, so that when it pulls into 35 on draft night we can pick Munkara, and they can't match.

We don’t have to be anything next year - we are rebuilding. Again - this isn’t a top up for a finals run or premiership. Persisting with Mitchell for another year and then trading him for even less gains us what exactly?
You teach players to win by winning. You do not want to create a culture where performance doesn’t matter and playing your best players out of position and then trading them out for deals that don’t improve our draft hand (not this year anyway) doesn’t offset the loss of players that perform and set standards. This is not how we built our list ahead of 2008.

Players that are 26 or older:
Scis
Impey
Frost
Breust
Chad

3 are guaranteed best 22. That is the profile of a wooden spooner.
