I’m going to be Devil’s advocate a bit and say I love a good regional Victorian town to connect to rather than outside of Vic but there is zero business case for what I am suggesting.

I think there is at least some business case for it - the Bulldogs are getting a nice slice of government funding for their Ballarat games. I would prefer this option also - 2 games somewhere in the regions. Dare say the AFL is trying to get a foothold in Cairns though so playing there could become lucrative. That or it's a failsafe for if the Suns keep stagnating down south and cannibalising the SEQ market - 'We are the Suns of the far north sky!'.

Given that "Gold Coast" and "Successful sports team" have never really gone together, moving them up north is not a terrible idea!

I have echoed this many times on here when stating I think the Suns should be relocated to be the NT team. See also - GWS relocating to Canberra to represent the Riverina, where AFL has a foothold, compared to Western Sydney where it never will.

Cairns population is about a quarter of the GC, it is more pro-NRL than the GC, and the humidity makes it unsuitable for regular games. Plus no stadium suitable for regular games. No chance.

That's all well and good, but Gold Coast is a void for sporting success.

The more Victorians that move north the more successful it will be, look at the GC academies it gets brought up all the time about how well AFL is growing in SEQ and kids playing the sport, would be interesting to know numbers before and after COVID, and how many are ex Victorian's.

As people who moved north aren't going to stop loving AFL and have their kids start playing NRL just because they moved to Queensland or even Sydney.

AFL is pretty big all over qld. Most of the students I've taught in both FNQ and SEQ prefer AFL over NRL.

If Warrnambool could get a half decent facility together, it would be a perfect home away from home for 1-2 games per year.

The corridor from Geelong to Port Fairy is chockers with hawks supporters
