I’m going to be Devil’s advocate a bit and say I love a good regional Victorian town to connect to rather than outside of Vic but there is zero business case for what I am suggesting.

Given that "Gold Coast" and "Successful sports team" have never really gone together, moving them up north is not a terrible idea! That or it's a failsafe for if the Suns keep stagnating down south and cannibalising the SEQ market - 'We are the Suns of the far north sky!'.

Cairns population is about a quarter of the GC, it is more pro-NRL than the GC, and the humidity makes it unsuitable for regular games. Plus no stadium suitable for regular games. No chance.Given that "Gold Coast" and "Successful sports team" have never really gone together, moving them up north is not a terrible idea!
That's all well and good, but Gold Coast is a void for sporting success.Cairns population is about a quarter of the GC, it is more pro-NRL than the GC, and the humidity makes it unsuitable for regular games. Plus no stadium suitable for regular games. No chance.
And long may it continue. That's all well and good, but Gold Coast is a void for sporting success.

They certainly won’t be moving to Cairns. Five times the void. That's all well and good, but Gold Coast is a void for sporting success.

AFL is pretty big all over qld. Most of the students I've taught in both FNQ and SEQ prefer AFL over NRL.The more Victorians that move north the more successful it will be, look at the GC academies it gets brought up all the time about how well AFL is growing in SEQ and kids playing the sport, would be interesting to know numbers before and after COVID, and how many are ex Victorian's.
As people who moved north aren't going to stop loving AFL and have their kids start playing NRL just because they moved to Queensland or even Sydney.
