I’m going to be Devil’s advocate a bit and say I love a good regional Victorian town to connect to rather than outside of Vic but there is zero business case for what I am suggesting.

Given that "Gold Coast" and "Successful sports team" have never really gone together, moving them up north is not a terrible idea! That or it's a failsafe for if the Suns keep stagnating down south and cannibalising the SEQ market - 'We are the Suns of the far north sky!'.

Cairns population is about a quarter of the GC, it is more pro-NRL than the GC, and the humidity makes it unsuitable for regular games. Plus no stadium suitable for regular games. No chance.Given that "Gold Coast" and "Successful sports team" have never really gone together, moving them up north is not a terrible idea!
That's all well and good, but Gold Coast is a void for sporting success.Cairns population is about a quarter of the GC, it is more pro-NRL than the GC, and the humidity makes it unsuitable for regular games. Plus no stadium suitable for regular games. No chance.
And long may it continue. That's all well and good, but Gold Coast is a void for sporting success.

They certainly won’t be moving to Cairns. Five times the void. That's all well and good, but Gold Coast is a void for sporting success.

AFL is pretty big all over qld. Most of the students I've taught in both FNQ and SEQ prefer AFL over NRL.The more Victorians that move north the more successful it will be, look at the GC academies it gets brought up all the time about how well AFL is growing in SEQ and kids playing the sport, would be interesting to know numbers before and after COVID, and how many are ex Victorian's.
As people who moved north aren't going to stop loving AFL and have their kids start playing NRL just because they moved to Queensland or even Sydney.

Hawthorn in discussions to host games in Tasmania beyond 2025
Hawthorn has opened discussions with the Tasmanian Government on a new deal to play home games in the state.www.sen.com.au

............... with its current contract to play four games per season in Launceston worth close to $20 million.
What does this mean? Sounds like a lot but is it?
It's certainly not $20 million per year. What's the length of the contract. And what's the net benefit to the club?
How about an extra 3 or 4 games per year at the MCG - with the increased patonage and massive sponsorship benefits that follow - and with 40K or 50K spectators at those home games?
That's probably worth a lot more than $20 million over the term of the Tassie contract (whatever that is).
When we first did the Tassie deal - in 2001 - we were desperate, a team struggling for members and revenue.
Now we have a huge (and growing) supporter base - in Victoria - which is clambering to see us play.
Spectators of around 12,000 to 18,000 watching us in Launceston (or Cairns for that matter) doesn't cut it any more.

Maybe keeping the 10k Tassie members happy is the clubs plan as well as keeping a massive home ground advantage............... with its current contract to play four games per season in Launceston worth close to $20 million.

Actually our record in Launceston is no better than in Melbourne v those same clubs.Love our games in Launceston
We are hard to beat, having a fantastic home ground advantage, and the financial benefit is huge
Geelong has usurped us as the fifth biggest Vic club

Disagree. The AFL denied Essendon’s request for an extra game even though their contract expired last year. No doubt offering good $$$ to keep the 7/4 split. It all comes down to negotiations, I hope we are having them.Hawthorn is not getting extra home games at the mcg. The afl love children (Carlton and essendon) want more mcg games, and any shift of games would see us be forced to pick up the slack at docklands
