Hawks firm as O'Keefe favourites
Ryan O'Keefe is believed to want a move to Hawthorn
HAWTHORN, Carlton and Collingwood are in contention for the services of Sydney Swans premiership player Ryan O'Keefe, but it is believed the Hawks are the forward's preferred destination.
Hawthorn appears to be in the box seat as it is understood Carlton's priority is Fremantle ruckman Robbie Warnock and Collingwood is not prepared to trade its first round selection.
Hawthorn general manager of player personnel and strategy Chris Pelchen said the club was meeting with O'Keefe's management on Tuesday night.
"We'll be meeting Tom Petroro, who is Ryan's manager, this evening to discuss an offer for Ryan," he said.
"We've had another conversation with the Sydney Swans this afternoon to maintain our position, subject to Ryan choosing to come to Hawthorn.
"Our position in terms of his playing contract will be subject to the rest of our player group. It certainly won't be negotiated in isolation.
"Speculation surrounding Ryan's contract offer from either Sydney Swans or other opposition clubs holds no bearing on Hawthorn's position.
"We're negotiating with Ryan, based on where we see him at Hawthorn Football Club – not where we see him with Sydney Swans or other teams."
Pelchen said Hawthorn had asked about 10 players from rival clubs.
"There are five clubs that we'll be doing nothing with – I'd be very surprised if we had any other conversations with them this week – but there are 10 clubs we're still talking to, even if they are saying: 'That's unlikely or not possible'," he said.

Looks to me like they'll tell him that at this stage he is not ranked in the top 'X' at the club so won't be paid above the guys in those positions.
